View Full Version : Does anyone else have a bad case of reroll-itis?

I admit it...

I'm one of those people with lots of toons, many of which are the same class - just a different race. I'm somehow willing to throw away 40+ hours of hard work on a certain toon because another player of the same class and a different race runs past me and I think to myself, "wow, that gnome warrior looks cool! What am I doing playing a barbarian? I want to be cool and unique!"

So I make that gnome warrior and I'm having an okay time, but the carry weight issue is annoying and the run animation for small races is retarded. So I see a human warrior run past me at some point, and I think to myself, "wow, that human looks great in full bronze! I want a human now!"

So I make that human warrior and I'm having an okay time, but now I feel... basic. Even though I'm playing a relatively uncommon race/class combo, I don't feel like I stand out in any way because humans are... well, humans. The goofy bucket helmet is an eyesore compared to the rest of the armor. So I see a wood elf warrior run past me at some point, and I think to myself, "wow, that wood elf looks fabulous in bronze! Time to be an emerald warrior now."

So I make that wood elf warrior, and I buy him a bunch of crushbone belts to get him up to level 10. Then I realize that while I've been doing all of this, people are doing SolB, Lguk, and other high end content while my original barbarian warrior is barely ready for a fireplace group in Unrest, and my various other toons are in Blackburrow / Crushbone.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm really indecisive about what race I want to spend the rest of my EQ career playing. I have a bad habit of impulsively rolling another toon because, hey, another player ran past me that looked cool. It's starting to cause burnout for me and that's a shame, because I really want to experience high end classic EQ gameplay. :(

Change class. I do the same on shaman, it's the class you subconsciously find boring

Think of it like the fashion show in Zoolander and "do not be distracted by the beautiful celebrities"!

But on a serious note I've been like this before, too. On blue I have a 22 bard and a level 9 necro and 7 monk. So maybe not rerolling the same class, but yes altitis is holding me back.

So I resolved on green to stick to my original toon, even if other toons seem more appealing. Currently rocking a 16 SHM, and it's been difficult, sure. There's gonna be times where leveling feels like a slog, or you're in a rough level range (was grouped with a 16 ranger today, talk about hell right there- can't even call yourself DPS for 16 levels) but the most important thing is tenacity. You're distracted by cool looking races, I'm distracted by forum posts complaining about mages needing research supplies to rock their level 30-something pets, or enchanters charm-solo'ing in their 30's. Just don't forget that every re-roll starts at level 1, and stick your course on the toon you have!

High end... classic...

Once upon a time there were race tracks made of wood.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Board_track_racing

EQ Classic is a wooden race track. At the end of the day it doesn't matter where you are relative to someone else, you're playing around in a piece of history. Right now, for the first time in 10 years, you have the option of playing characters that start completely naked and finding a group as ANY class.

I mean I'm not grouping with you scrubs, but shits awesome. I've had wizards tell me they don't want their research runes FOR FREE because they won't be AE kiting - as they can just FIND A GROUP.

These are rare times, enjoy them!

I have not not had altitis since original EQ. There I rolled a monk played him to 19 then switched to cleric and played him to max level. Since then, in every game I play I have to try about a million different toons.

I was trying really hard to pick a class and stick with it on Green, but here I am with a 22 warrior 14 wizard and now an 8 bard. Don't feel bad, if you are having fun that is all that matters I think.

Eh... I suspect it's not the class, but rather the fact that every race has completely unique - and for the most part aesthetically pleasing - armor. So when you've been playing your toon for a while and suddenly a player shows up with the same armor but a completely new look, you want a piece of that.

EDIT: This is what I'm talking about. When you've been playing something like an ogre for 20 levels and suddenly you see something like this...

https://i.imgur.com/r2Onjos.jpg

You lose motivation to play your current race because you want to be that cool new thing you don't see very often. It's like seeing a Tesla.

Very interesting that we're seeing light twinking already. Makes me wonder how people will feel about the server in late Kunark. Will they still spend all their time on Green once everyone is twinked out? At that point, the only real difference in terms of the leveling experience on Blue vs. Green is degrees of twinking no?

Wtf Ransurian how are you getting normal bronze armor color schemes to show up? I've been seeing nothing but gold tints.

edit: also I think Crankfuse got himself a Langseax of the Wolves so he's even sexier now if he didn't sell it.

People with good fashion make me want that character too :p

Right now all I have is a human ranger halfling cleric ogre shaman but.. Ive been having struggles leveling everything because the characters I truly love to play I already have on blue. :p

Im starting to realize that my desire for a guised ranger is all I had, and the ranger class really troubles me.

Oddly though I never had a Cleric and for some reason I just like the class.

I always like priest classes and healers in every game. Sometimes tanks.

My original character was a warrior. One day while getting my ass handed to me in Velious by a light blue, I saw a Necro demolishing a yellow no problem. I recalled in the manual it saying Warriors were the Masters of Battle.... and yet...

And I hated it. And my crippling addiction to new characters began. The grass is always greener....

Back in the day, when I kept rerolling characters, it was seeing a necro that made one stick. He was murdering all the BB dwarves. I never saw domination like that. I mained a DE Necro from then on, just as he was.

12 Rogue, 1 Paly, 3 Bard, 3 Monk

Thinking of making a Druid and Wizard next. Just stuck on Race. Either Wood Elf or Halfling for Druid and probably DE for Wizard.

Or maybe a DE Warrior and a High Elf Wizard? Hhhmmm Both?

I need an intervention.

I've always had that issue.

Never even hit max level with a character because I was always rerolling. Got close with a few though.

This is one illness I have been lucky enough to avoid catching. Leveled a Druid and Cleric to 75 on live (that was highest level when I quit). I leveled a Druid and Cleric to 60 on Blue and now I am on my way to leveling another Druid and another Cleric on Teal.

Maybe I should try another class sometime? :D

I'm playing a shaman right now. Mid 20s. Almost every day so far I have been tempted to reroll enchanter which was my main on blue/favorite class.

1-24 untwinked on shaman was pretty bad, but I stuck through it and am finally starting to be able to do shaman things.

I still want to reroll, but I'm gonna stick with it till at least 34 when I get the first pet.

You guys chase new class/race while I'm here with the urge to chase lvls, gear, and money.

I think each person is chasing something so just have fun with what you enjoy. While you got after fun new combos we got people sitting in a room for 15+ hrs waiting for one item to drop. That's the great part of this game is you can go as hardcore or casual as you want and still enjoy it.

Currently 26 Enc got my Jboots and Manastone is next on list (once I hit 35).

Yes I am! And I like the priest classes except for Shaman. Never had any desire to play that class for some reason. I kind of want to try a monk and Necro sometime. But first my new Druid and Cleric must make it 50 and then 60!

Starting my third characther. I leveled my Shaman to 25 in about 2 weeks, did a necro to 21 in the past week, and starting a bard that hopefully will take me around 4-5 days this time. I think I have given up on the 20s, and am just going to level an account full of level 20s, and go from there....

I apologize to you if it was me you saw, good sir. I look phenomenal. The ladies gnomes love me. But I am encumbered carrying my armor. It's the life I chose as a gnome warrior, but its a hardship.

I get tells almost daily, "dude you look awesome! I want to start a gnome warrior!"

And my usual response is: "Don't. Unless you love gnomes and are looking for a challenge. Otherwise... don't." lol

I love theory crafting characters :3

Like....a shadowknight...that uses archery....but uses spells + bow to pull enough agro to use their pet to supplement the lower archery skill that a ranger would have.

Or a magician, that uses a pet....but focuses on throwing knives to supplement damage and save mana for healing the pet for lower downtime.

Or a necro that fights with melee, that focuses on agility + dex and armor with AC + HP so that they can tank and proc their lifetap buff. Letting them kill with less downtime and take on harder mobs.

Or a warrior that uses a clicky to stay within low life mode....but then uses a bow to super increase their crippling strike chance + damage to become a greater archer than a ranger! While also being made of glass (since they are low life constantly).

.....

The problem is I'm also super attached to being a gnome.....and a lot of those ideas a gnome can't be.

And then stuff like being a necro or mage is fun, but it's TOO strong and makes things boring.

Really? I'm a gnome warrior with 8 pieces of small bronze (full visible) and I have no serious weight issues. I'm 24 pounds under the encumbrance limit, in fact. Granted, I did put 10 points into strength when making my toon - I figured the minuscule amount of HP lost was worth the huge quality of life boost to having the extra strength.

What helps is having items that boost your strength, like jagged bands / spiked collar / Langseax of the Wolves. I'm getting +12 strength from my equipment in addition to the 10 points I got from the character creation menu, so weight is seldom a serious issue for me.

If you aren't too far along, I might consider rerolling your toon and distributing some points into strength - you'll lose a negligible amount of health but gain a huge amount of quality of life boost. I still have more health than troll shadow knights, so HP really isn't an issue.
