View Full Version : How valued are mages on raids?

Does their dps compare to rogues, monks and wizards?
I know they just summon mod rods and summon people in Kunark?

They're great dps for trash clearing but bosses tend to have high resists and mages don't get any lures. Pet is still good dps. Mod rods are always useful.

Wizard's don't get lures in classic. Mages do fine in raids, you always need them for CoTH later as well.

If the thought of littering the ground with mod rods sounds like your cup of tea, you may just enjoy raiding with a Mage.
Mages suffer from the lack of lures (as mobs begin to have difficult resists), and pets can be a liability if not properly managed. Expect the majority of your raid contribution to consist of out-of-combat tricks like mod rods and CotH. Mages got kind of get a raw deal...all that early power gets balanced out with a lacking feeling in end-game.

Not sure if it's a thing on p1999 but on live I heard raid leader ask pet class to remove pet while going to location because pet would sometimes bring a train on the raid.

Pet classes get shafted on raids. Until later when /pet hold was added in GoD or whatever, pets were often a liability.
So as a Mage you spam summon Mod Rod, and grab late people with COTH. As a Necro, you'd just sit there and cast subversion to give mana to the cleric 99.9% of the time, and in an emergency, FD and Convergance (Rez) the cleric. Super fun stuff.

It's a progression server, so Vox and nagafen will both be crushed by mage Squads.
So there's that.

Last I heard people who made mage are mostly waiting for mage pet scroll getting sold by npc when they reach the 20s because they need a lot of research materials to make each of them and since there is 4 pets at level 24, at 29, at 34 and so forth it's too much work atm.

I'm surprised Vox/naggy hasn't been downed by a crew of mages yet tbh

Yea, those 34 pets should make short worth of dragons.

Someone was saying the 49 earth, and then the 59 water pets keep pace with moderately geared rogues and monks for dps. Was this a tall tale?

You do realize on daybreak servers pets can’t tank Nagafen and Vox right?

Unrelated, but.. Was there an occasion where on one of the dbg prog servers, a bunch of SKs went in and HT blasted all of the classic raid mobs?
I can't remember if I dreamed that
