My main is currently level 14 and I can count on one hand the amount of times Ive parties with a Tank. And 100% of the time it was a Paly.

This is over in GFay/Crushbone.

Most parties Ive been in I the Rogue was the Tank. Luckily every group had 2 healers. Generally 2 Druids or a Cleric and a Druid.

Had a group the other day say they needed a Mage for a "Tank Pet". This group already consisted of a Wizard and Enchanter (and a Cleric and a Druid).

Where all my tanks at? Did you guys get replaced by Earth Elementals and Rogues?

Melee classes dont start to come online till the end of kunark with epics. The window for melee to shine will be a short one on the p99 TLPS, versus casters being good from the start to finish mostly. A charmed chanter pet is 3x better than a tank in a group.

They are on boycott. Excluded from too many groups for pet classes.

That being said my guild has about 35 members.. with 2 warriors, 2 pallies, 2 ranger tanks, 1 bard tank, and 5 sks. We are hoarding them for our purposes. =)

Dwarf warriors, half elf and high elf paladins, and gnome warriors are the only tanks who start over near you. Tanks aren't super popular anyway, and those aren't super popular races for those classes on top of that. Evil races have a hard time travelling and living in Faydwer, especially at low levels.

Big surprise there aren't a ton of tanks around at 1-15 over there.

Once you get out of elf land you’ll start to find more of us :)

Most tanks tend to be ogres/trolls, we like to stay close to da swamps

Hybrids are underpowered and no gear is available. exp penalty does the rest.

I saw more tanks on qeynos side of the world than the wc area

My paladin has been stuck at lvl 18 for 3 days now because groups prefer pet. Time to roll a solo class I guess.

Or I get a group but its in a spot where I'm way over leveled and the xp is slow as dirt.

"We need more tanks!"

/who all lfg = 50% tanks.

Tank life.

I can tell you that as a high elf paladin on Faydwer, I am rarely LFG for long.

On Antonica though, it seems like every group has their tank already.

Makes sense!

playing melee without gear is pretty hard once you get higher level, you start thinking "I could just be an enc/nec/mag right now" and it's hard to resist

Last night on teal we were tanking Orc Hill with enchanter animations. Not pretty with encs having to take hits from red cons, but no tanks were to be found...

I rolled a Paladin... only lvl 7 now. The last two nights I have gotten a group immediately in BB and GFay. Maybe just lucky right now.

Part of the issue is that if your group knows what it's doing, then casters are managing their agro so as to not draw off the tank, tanks are taunting and doing what they can to hold agro, and as soon as things go bad in the fight the tank is the first to die. As a pet class, the cost of things going poorly is negligible. As a tank, you lost hours worth of xp gain.

that's odd because I am in the same zone lvl range as you and most of my groups have 2 paladin's and or 2 warriors...

Newb undergeared tank checking in and having a blast so far! I decided to do this the difficult way and rolled a Paladin on Teal and will be leveling up slowly as playtime allows. Previous mains were a Shaman and an Enchanter and I’ve never done melee before, so figured it was time. That being said, I somehow never leveled up in or around Qeynos before, so that’s where I started and there are a few tanks around there, but still limited. Come befriend the few of us paladins and we will gladly tank for you!

On teal I am Thiccthighs, the mildly clueless but already slightly benevolent paladin!

33 Paladin on Teal. So far having a blast, I love the group life and meeting people along the way. One key is hoping you make a good impression on others so that they might remember you for next time they need a tank. Nothing is worse than solo tank life, it's literally the pits.

This isn't blue. Rules have changed so less people want to play hybrids so that limits the numbers of paladins and sk's that get rolled. Warriors are pathetic at solo and extremely gear dependent so while more people might roll one eventually they may wait for Kunarks release to do so. And like previously mentioned elfland is not where most warrior races will be since players tend to prefer ogres, trolls or barbarians.

I love dwarf warriors just don't see too many of them around. If I didn't love the Druid class so much I might have rolled one just to be a commodity in great demand for groups. But EQ life without bind, invis and gate is not for everyone.

As a mid-20s Monk it's starting to get better. From levels 1-15ish I was a Monk Tank in about 70% of my groups. Which was actually a bit of a blessing as it allowed me to keep my defensive skills high. Starting in Guk early 20s I'm now forced to Tank maybe 20% of the time.

It's quite remarkable how much more effective Warriors and Knights are at tanking than anyone else when everyone is BIS twinked like on Blue. Even as a Monk w max defensive skills I take markedly more damage than the true Tanks.

Think most people dont want the pen exp and wars are not that fun to play as they cant hold agro well without gear.

This is where I'm at in this discussion. Ive mained a sk on live and blue, and started one on Teal but I got soooo sick of being the only one to die and wasting my time. On a positive note though I am loving my baby rogue so maybe it was just time for me to switch it up.

Are you guys not finding tanks all on Teal? I'm an SK and most of my groups I'm not even the only tank. I've been in Guk/Befallen though pretty exclusively. I've only been turned down by a group once by pet classes and that was way back at level 8 for orc camps. I'm 22 now and group regularly.

Tanks on the low end are the first to die and the ones to take the blame if things go south due to aggro.

"You didn't hold aggro." - after a spellcaster blows their mana on a mob

"You got hurt too much." - after a cleric ran out of mana, tank still not able to afford more than leather armor

"You need to pull." - after getting stun locked down a hallway alone

"You need to do more damage." - knowing that it's like spells, expensive

The tank life is a hard road, but rewarding in the end when your group knows how to play with a tank instead of disposable pets.
