As I've been grinding on my necro on Green I started to think back when a HD pack was released for models and I wanted to do something to contribute to this awesome community as well. I started re texturing player models, then zones, objects, npcs, spells... Well I've completed all of these and I believe I'm ready to have some testers. Please let me know if this is something you'd be interested in by either posting here or message me in game as Nokts!

If you have any specific cities or areas you'd like to see, let me know and I can take some screen shots! Everything for Green/teal is already completed. I'll do Kunark/Velious as they approach as well.

This idea totally came from Physcher's thread over at https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=338573. I streamlined the process so I can do all assets in one go and it turned out really awesome.

Any critique is welcome, just don't be mean haha.

HD Classic is a render of all armor and models and makes them the exact same just higher definition. This is a complete rework of all models/zones/spells/icons. I would say they are staying more authentic to Classic EQ just with a facelift, while I am wanting something more of a different taste. I love EQ, but I have played it for 20 years and some of the stuff I've been able to do makes it feel like a new game(visually), but with the same mechanics that I love.

You could use their player models/armor and use my spells/world art if you'd like. There is currently no download as I'm looking for beta testers. I am the only one who's used it, so I'm not sure about performance issues, loading/zoning issues etc. I will put together a release of the beta today and look forward to feedback from you guys.

Really great looking stuff, but might I just suggest that a wiki page would be a more stable/long-lasting form of documentation (and place to keep a link to your files) than a forum post (that will soon fall from the front page once initial interest dies off)?

There's a whole page dedicated to this sort of thing, so you could just create a link there and then create a page for your stuff on it, if you want:

DISCLAIMER: Copy your Everquest folder before attempting to use this overhaul. Also, your mileage may vary, but I had zero crashes (1-3 per session before) after removing both my load.jpg and load2.jpg from the resources folder in my EQ install. To install, just point towards your EQ directory and have at it. Make sure to overwrite all files it request. Please share screen shots of place you're at, as I'd love to see how everything looks. I want to thank you guys again for being super supportive. Any feedback is welcome, good or bad and especially if it's to help make this better. Please share any ideas you have, because it just might be something simple that can go a long way. Let's try to not give this out to too many people till we figure out the bugs and glitches. Anyway thanks again guys, peace!

Myself and a couple friends are testing it, enjoying it except that every time we zone in Neriak and it's various zones equals a crash for all of us. When we log back in it loads fine but zoning to a different section of the city is another crash, but we can load to Nek Forest and doesn't seem to have a problem, nor does EC.

Edit: Setting it to Realtime Priority in Task Manager would allow me to zone around in Neriak a few times before crashing. This is probably an issue with the engine itself. It will likely be a problem for any massive texture pack.

Have you also tried deleting the two loading screens? I know this sound like a really strange request, but it fixed all my loading issues with higher texture packs. How this makes sense, I have no idea lol.

I might create some sort of installation file to do some of these task when people do the install. Have them just point towards the directory they want the files. For the time being guys, please remove loadscreen.jpg and loadscreen.bmp in your <EQ DIRECTORY>/Resource/ folder. I know it doesn't make sense, but I haven't crashed once since doing this.

Awesome, thanks guys. Please take screen shots and share! I'd love to see what your part of the world looks like.

Also, I would have some frame drops with EQ, with or without the textures for some reason. I'm on a fairly new machine, but using ISLC (clears memory list) always fixes the issue. YMV.

OOOF lol. I will definitely probably have to do some touch ups. If you could send what it looks like in classic versus now and I can work on making sure it doesn't lose it's charm.

Many of the faces are missing their eyes. Especially true on Dark Elves. Also, I'm still crashing in Neriak Commons, and Neriak 3rd gate.

Removed the Loading Screens and used ISLC but still receive crashes when zoning into the different areas of Neriak. Zoning around WFree, EC, WC, Befallen, Nektulos areas had no problems zoning back and forth. Also upon further examination apparently there are a lot of faces missing eyes, teeth, the skin color being the sclera color etc.

We have been able to run a clean install, place P99 files inside, your mod without global_chr.s3d. Removed Loading Screen jpg & bmp. Set the entire folder of (example C:\Everquest) to not be read only. (just in case)
We have been able to play forever without crashing, so far.

Since you will likely be editing the global_chr.s3d to fix character faces you might want to just grab a clean version and start from scratch. I couldn't figure out if it was a specific texture file within the s3d but at least we narrowed it down to one file for you.

Thanks again for all your hard work on this, looking forward to the completed version. We will continue to run it without that file and let you know should anything else come up.

Was thinking about it and I'm using the same file with no crashes. I wonder if it's just too big for most machines? Or the way that EQ Handles them? I'm going to create a smaller version.

Entirely possible and worth a shot. I tested the EQClassicHD version of the file which is 85mb roughly and it works flawlessly.

Edit: Also now noticed Deathfist Orcs have no eyes. Pretty funny, and they deserve it.

Haha, I'll have to make another pass at character files, I'm thinking I'll go one bump on quality for characters. An I'll try and keep the Global_chr file below 100mb and see if that helps

New Global Character File.

32MB instead of 115MB. I've figured out a really good way to compress. Will most likely being revamping a bit. I am leaving this Tuesday for a bit, but I'll be back fired up ready to work on this. Let me know if you still crash with this.

Tested it out a ton and can confirm it doesn't crash anymore. The detail on the models took a bit of a hit but it's now stable. The eyes still appear to be messed up on certain faces, odd white lines at times or the wrong areas colored like before. It may never be 100% perfect since it's not redone by hand. It works for now and should be crash safe as far as we have tested.

Interesting, this was using EQ-ZIP instead of s3dspy. I wonder if EQzip lowers the quality too harshly. Let me play around with it a couple of times. I'd like to aim for a 75-90MB file I think to get the best of both worlds.

I absolutely love what you've done, it gives the game an entirely new feeling, couple things I've noticed like others, saw a bear that had no face, and also wondering if the chain/banded seemingly having no chain on the sleeves and legs is deliberate. I haven't tried the smaller character file yet because I don't want to give up too much quality, I'll update if I find more, so far environments seem flawless though

Bears will be fixed, working on the chainmail now. I've done a lot of manual touch ups. Thank you for the feedback and keep it coming!

Hmmm, well actually I'm working on a new one because there was some issues. I got a really nice one finished, but it was just.. too hd looking with out any character. I will get this new one out asap.

Tried the smaller file, def going back to the original all though it does crash me in Freeport, seems like a city thing. Also forgot to mention with the chain was for humans, chain on barbarians and others looked really nice. Any chance we get the new char file up tonight ?

Spell colors would be cool, especially for things that share the same spell effect, btw just logged out and re copied spell effects because I noticed bard str song had no effect now, not sure what caused that since it was good last night and only changed the global character file today

I know you said not to put in main install but I'm a rebel, also I fixed the bard spell effect by deleting my spell folder and recopying it so no issue there, Do you think the crashing could be a memory thing with the old client? I have the shortcut running in xp compatibility mode which fixed a crash I was getting after first installing

Damn, I've read a lot about people have crashing issues. I would highly suggest trying your original folder you copied it from, since that was in my instructions and see if you crash. If you DO crash, I would make sure your refresh rates are the same in your video drives.

One other thing I noticed is that the entrance to Najena still has old textures, zoned inside and it was fine, its just that initial entrance hallway, not a huge deal just something I saw =) Ty for all the work you are doing and will do with this

You need to take a look at gequip.s3d and gequip2.s3d which seem to be the weapon files. I've gone back and forth installing and uninstalling EQclassicHD files and eventually did them one by one with your character files installed until I got a crash. Right now I am using all of your files except these two and I get no crashing, I didn't just try once, I zoned probably 15 times where before I was crashing every single time so I think these are it, I'm not sure if its one or both I'll see if I can narrow it further

I changed the models to be much higher resolution. Tried to keep a little bit of the simplicity without washing out all the details.

Also added Lfay that I some how missed lol. Going to work on equipment again and then redo all zones (cleanup). I am having a really hard time figuring out how to change spell effect colors without changing all of them. I believe there is something within spells_us.txt but they also has cast times etc in it and not trying to cheat lol.

Yessir, btw I have an update and all zones done. I'll update this thread in a little bit. Holidays etc taking up most of my time. After this next update if you guys find anything make sure to report it here :) Happy Holidays guys.

Has the newest pack been uploaded yet? I tried the one from the dropbox link above and I started having crashes again. I am 100% behind this and looking forward to having it work smooth without crash issues.

Have you taken a look at the files I noted in previous posts? Crashes for me were related to part of the weapon files, try just replacing those with original and see if it still crashes

With both Gequip and Gequip2 s3d as default I still crash. Crashed on logout and now crashed on login after char select.

Testing on a 100% fresh install and p99 patch of EQTitanium. Just incase I got some mod conflict somewhere.

I dont think the crash on logout is due the texture pack, try launching eq in compatibility mode for xp or 98.

Yeah, for me texture pack crashes were zoning only, never had it crash me on log in or log out, and only certain zones, mainly cities. I haven't crashed with the latest update yet, though I haven't tested super thoroughly like last time as I haven't been playing much recently

Also make sure you remove any other mods you installed that affect the texture files like EQ classic HD etc, Tkon recommends fresh install which it looks like you tried, did you get it working?

Nice work! I've been exploring a bit with these textures and it's pretty nice. Only noticed a few things in my wanderings so far.

PC faces are hit and miss. Some critters, bears specifically, are awful.
Transparency issues on ropes of the raft in Halas and edges of burned buildings in Kith. I thought the raft one would be duplicated in Kelethin's bridges, but surprisingly it was not.
Just outside the Felwithe gate is just one big green square.

Otherwise it's been a smooth ride on the eyes. Love it.

My feedback is .... I like the old spell gfx better, and like this texture pack better:

Reason being that the style doesn't really match - it's very cell-shaded while everything else in EQ is not cell shaded.

Appreciate the work, though, but not for me :)

Completed all zones and character models for classic. I'll be releasing it in a new thread tomorrow morning after I upload the files. We went form a 5 gig install to a 1.4 gig. These were given a lot more time to each model. Faces/Bears/Wolves have been fixed, but pumas are still being odd. Models of monsters etc look really good too, I'm really happy with the way everything turned out. Huge improvement on transparent textures as well. I'll be posting this in the new thread, but PLEASE turn the spell opacity down to at least 75% if not lower. This really allows the new spell effects to blend in more and look really crisp.

Hey Tkon, props to you for your style and contributions; and the guys over at EQClassic HD for their work. Can you give me any direction at all if I wanted to do something like this on my own as a fun side hobby?

I know absolutely nothing, my tech knowledge is limited to a intro to C++ course and java back in 2006. I played around with Skyrim dungeon map editor briefly. I assume the tools knowledge around texture changing is completely different, but am extremely interested in tinkering!
