For those who haven't heard, Brad McQuaid passed away today (https://massivelyop.com/2019/11/19/veteran-mmorpg-developer-brad-mcquaid-has-passed-away/).
I know it's not classic... but Brad was amazing :( And EQ + Pantheon were his passion.
So.... maybe would be nice to put in the game as memorial. Maybe Freeport walking around the temple of light. Or some other noble place.

He was one of the great innovators of MMOs. Tremendous loss.

This wouldn't even be unprecedented. For those that don't know (eg. all non-raiders) the Plane of Sky has an unreachable island with staff NPCs on it (http://wiki.project1999.com/Plane_of_Sky#Island_.3F:_Staff_Tribute_Island):

One easy option would be to add Aradune there, but of course there's many other great places they could put him.

Maybe add him into some of the custom content stuff. Like maybe you have to fight "big bad boss X" and Aradune will lead the charge. I'd much prefer that than some statuesque NPC some place irrelevant collecting dust.

Another spot that NEVER gets used is the back of the room in the commons tunnel.
Maybe even let him have an effect if you talk to him....giving you a bravery or valor buff. Nothing OP that you can't get from the tunnel sitters, but something still neat that might help out.
Or, if you really wana get fancy, give him a unique quest for fireworks!

Custom content won't be for a long time....and not on green / teal for years at least.

well, on green/teal he can remain a static NPC with no additional content until the point custom content is allowed.

well, on green/teal he can remain a static NPC with no additional content until the point custom content is allowed.
I’d rather him be added to part of the world that he actually helped create rather than some random custom content the staff made up.

Naw, you could make him a plot character in something for sure. Don't know if it's a good idea to use his likeness in new content though, may be asking for trouble from some.
He was a Ranger but probably because it was the closest thing to the hybrid he actually wanted to play but they never got around to adding: Warrior+Wizard, think it was called WarWizard on Pantheon, but maybe something else long ago?
If anything should be added it should be this class, complete with Epic quest and Aradune for the quest starter :P

Not really. The idea is that it'll be located in a classic zone created when he was involved in the game.
The presence of a tribute in a location won't change the fact that the zone's from that era.

I like to seem him added as a roaming spawn in Freeport and Qeynos newbie zone. Despawns after 10 mins or so. Hail-able with some quest text talking about the vision of the creator which sparked the life into the world we live in.

Memorial NPCs traditionally went into cshome, there were NPCs walking around for SoE staff members who died. We should have a more publicly accessible one though.

I'm a fan of keeping the gameplay classic. That said, I think adding an Aradune npc would be a fitting tribute to a man who helped shape the incredible world and experience that is Everquest.

It's rather simple, as it should be. No quests, no custom content, just place a non-functioning NPC into P99 similar to RoZ, and leave it at that. The bells and whistles are too much. That's what I would like to see.

make a donation to your local opioid addiction treatment center then.
if you want to honor brad in game, have everyone gather in EC and equip a torch or something. Keep his classic Vision(tm) as memorialized in p99 classic.

When you hail him, he responds with:
"ahh!" he smiles, while taking a sip from his mug. "Just resting my legs here a bit, before I move on to my next grand adventure"
or something like that? nothing fancy. That way he could also be on those servers that won't get eloborate custom content.

The point of EQ was to have a living breathing world. I think an NPC would be better then a statue.

:( I think giving you volunteers a tiny tribute, that's not game-affecting in any way, is the perfect reason to do something unclassic.

Also dumb question but would they have to get some kind of OK from daybreak, is the Aradune likeness part of the IP for EQ? I'm assuming so.

Aradune is Brad's own character and his internet handle. He's used it across Verant, SOE, Sigil, and VR.

Yes, I understand that. But does whoever owns IP rights to EQ own the IP rights to characters created there? Obviously a name only isn't sufficient, but adding in the likeness to the EQ character he had? I thought there might be some legal grey area here.
