I want to roll a tank. I have never played a tank before, I've always mostly solo'd. I have been torn however between a Warrior or a Shadow Knight. I've already bought a decent 2hs and 1hs, just need to commit to a class. Anyway, is there any real benefit to rolling a warrior over an sk? From what I've read their tanking abilities are pretty close at the end. The convenience of some spells is attractive to me and the only benefit of rolling a warrior I can think of is there are fewer of them than sk. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Warrior levels faster and will be MT for all raids.
SK levels slower, can solo a lot better, has lots of utility, and gets to off tank adds in raids.

Pick your poison.

warrior will always be a superior meat shield - just accept that

but SK is VERY fun class to play, with many spells to give you plenty of advantage in non standard situation, and never needing to be 100% dependent on others like warriors are:
Invis, Feigh Death, Lifetaps, darkness, even a pet =)

My vote always goes to SK ;)

Pretty much everything has been said:

Warrior: can't really solo but are the best meatshield you can desire (and believe me, with some of the raids coming, you will want nothing but a warrior as main tank thanks to their higher HP and disciplines. One can think Venril Sathir for example or the Avatar of War once Velious comes out in a few years)

SK: very efficient tank for a group, very good off-tank for a raid. Not bad at solo (fear kite is your friend). Much slower to level due to a hefty xp penalty.

So, if you don't intend to raid much or have no intent to me main tank during a raid, the choice is almost a no brainer (unless you really want to play a warrior but then you wouldn't have asked). If you intend to raid (few? lots?), you have to consider different factors that will be specific to your personal circumstances.

Whichever you play, I wish you a happy tinme in Norrath.

yes major benefits, higher ac more hps and defensive disciplines. SKs get raped while a warrior is laughing at mobs dps with his discs. Go big race, troll or ogre.

You can solo some as a Warrior, if you are twinked. Also get yourself a PGT for after level 10 and an Axe of the Slayers for after level 30. It's great for solo Warriors. With that and some bandaids you can at least keep the exp bar moving while you are not in a group.
