View Full Version : NPC ate quest items without giving item in return - anything I can do?

Was doing Stein of Moggok quest (Exotic Drinks). Had already done it once before, but sold my previous Stein. I gave Gregor Nasin the 4 items for the compendium - nut, fish, jum, and tonic just like I had done last time. This time though he just takes the item but doesn't give me the compendium! I don't already have a compendium. Guild mate said to do /petition so I tried that but haven't gotten a response. Anything else I can do about this to get my items back? I'm upset now and it's making me me kind of not want to play anymore ;_;

Probably not. That's the way it was, unless you can prove it was a glitch, and not something you did.
When I was doing the J-Boots quest, I messed up and gave Hasten TOO MUCH copper.
Poof. All that effort gone.

sometimes people multi-quest it with the kiola nut, causing some weirdness if he already had the 3 items. try giving him another nut
should always be plan b irl too
it might be too late if its been an hour though

what do you mean by multi-questing it? i did buy a number of nuts beforehand. does that matter and should it even matter? and do you mean just give him another nut by itself?
Were you in correct illusion and/or using appropriate faction spell? Is there some chance you inadvertently clicked the items onto the wrong NPC?
Worst-case, it’s just a Stein, not your epic or anything.

multi-questing means somebody gave him some of the items but not all

I didn't bother to use an illusion the last time when I did the trade successfully. He was apprehensive to me then and apprehensive to me this time. I didn't record it (unfortunately had my replay app not on at the time) but I'm fairly certain I gave the correct items to the correct NPC just like I did successfully previously, but I can't be 100% sure since I wasn't able to record it. I guess it's not the end of the world, it's not the hardest items to get. It's just really, really frustrating for me :(

That would then mess it up for people trying to do the quest after them? Oof :(

Petition it if you really want the items back. This happened to me back on blue and sirken verified the logs and saw I handed in one incorrect item on accident. He still reimbursed all the items though.

Ya the idea is to log quickly to another char and 'finish' the quest by having your alt turn in the kiola nut.
Its a pretty try hard move for an item that's already inflated, but you theoretically have two gate you may set by doing it with two chars, minimizing the run
To be clear I don't know if that's what happened to you, you sure you didn't turn in an innothules kiss instead of an erud tonic or somethin? (Or the guy ahead of you did that and messed up that way)..eh petition bud

It can, but not if done right. Muktiquesting is really simple. Let's say if I give jim a blue rock , a red rock , and a green rock, he gives me a flaming rock of uberness and boomerangness. Now let's say only the blue rock is hard to find, and I have one, and a friend with the other two rocks. I can give jim my blue rock, first, then my friend gives the other two. Because my friend was the person that turned in the final needed item, he is credited with completing the quest and gets the flaming rock of uberness and boomerangness, not me.

Oh, I see. That's interesting.
I know turn-ins can be extremely finnicky in EverQuest and that statistically speaking I probably just turned in a wrong item or something, but I'm almost sure it was the correct 4 items and that it worked fine when I did it yesterday. Sucks I didn't have replay software on (I had turned it off because the bind I was using for it was being used in EQ for something else). I had just done the turn in for the tonic at the library in Erudin and had ported directly to Freeport docks from there so I don't think it was mistaking the kiss for the tonic.

Even if it's been partially multi quested you should still get the book at some point when the four items handed in are checked. It should be like other quests, i.e. bone chip quests which have four item turn ins. If someone turns in two bone chips, then when you turn in your four, after the second one you get the exp and item, then the third and fourth give nothing.
I would guess the problem is something else.

THERE IS NO STEIN BECAUSE THIS SHIT DOESN'T WORK
fyi I did this quest once successfully between the last time he fucked up on me and this time that he fucked up on me. I'm giving him the same hecking items. I was even in human illusion this time and he was indifferent to me (I was in human illusion last time too when it worked).
playing this game is already a waste of time in itself. but wasting time for nothing within already wasting time? that is just too much for me. this is just too incredibly frustrating.

Thanks, but I think it's best I just stay away from this game unfortunately. I'm sorry for getting so upset and the excessive use of profanity. The experience was just very frustrating. Unsurprisingly, it seems I did at least one of the times give a honeycomb instead of a kiola nut allegedly according to them. They claim though they don't even see my other unsuccessful attempt but I'm 100% sure he's screwed me twice.

99.9999% of the time a reason the quest failed is due to a player messing it up, not the code.
If players find themselves without a reward it's usually because they turned in the wrong item(s), wrong NPC or wrong faction. We usually reimburse any of the situations if players can provide the NPC name they turned in and/or a date they did this turn in.

yeah, i probably just screwed it up :(
i know though for sure that I've done two unsuccessful turn ins so I'm not sure why the other one isn't seen.

I would reply on your petitions / exploits post that you are sure it's there and give an aprox time/date you did the turn in.
Probably turned it into a pet or wrong NPC, happens.
