Pyzjn - I got my Glowing Black Stone - Please Read

So I feel like I need to tell this story about receiving my GBS a few days ago. I even petitioned to see if a GM can help in any way reward or help me find a way to reward an amazing decision made in the moment by another player.

I camped the GBS in 1999 and put well over 50 hours into that camp. I started camping the GBS 2 weeks ago but not hardcore all the time, just 3 or 4 night cycles every other day or so. You notice the others popping in and out as well and for me personally Pyzjn is an open camp as its a roaming mob with 6 PHs but ive also left when I come a few times and see the same person sitting at the ruins. I know and understand the mechanics of the camp well but that's irrelevant. I didn't expect to get a GBS but figured I may get lucky. Over the last few weeks I got 4 Pyzjn spawns and of course got nothing but a rusty dagger.

A few days ago I got another Pyzjn spawn but like a dumbass just blowed all my Mana as I didn't think I was going to get a spawn (it was 6am game time). Just before 7am ticked she spawned! I am following her from 20-30 ft away, sitting and medding to get to about 2 bars of mana. Im a 21 Wiz so I root the pet, and shes dead in 2 nukes. I tick just over a blue bubble of mana and another PC walks up, a 29 Mage named Kalsto (he has another low lvl toon named Vindi or something?). Pyzjn being a mob you have to engage as you cannot claim the camp made me jump into action. I figure ignore the pet as I don't have enough mana to root it. I nuke, she loses 2/3 of her life, but then im just shy of enough mana for my 2nd nuke that finishes her off. I go into stabby mode and we are going back and forth. I die with her literally not having a sliver of health (didn't think about lifetap because I 2 shot her before she even casts it). While we were mellee'ing I did /say Damnit I shouldn't have wasted all my mana!" or something to that effect. I respawn around the corner where im bound and as I walk up to the corpse and Kaslto I tell him "Its kind of messed up you let me die, but its ok, she only had a rusty dagger" Anyone that has encountered me in game will tell you I do anything to help people. If I were in his position I would have taken out the pet for the other guy and it would have ended well. Obviously theres no obligation from anyone to do anything like that so im not butthurt or anything especially since she just had the dagger.

Low and behold, Kalsto hands be a GBS, im assuming to brag, and then hits TRADE! I wait a few seconds, accept, and said something like "Wow..... dude..... are you sure" And he says "I thought I could be a dick but didn't have it in me" Im blown away obviously..... shocked really... I told him how thankful I was and that I absolutely would have done the same. Hes feeling some regret at this point and says something to the effect of I doubt it and I probably shouldn't have done that. I tried to reassure him but obviously regret is a son-of-a-B! He sent me a tell from another toon later saying something similar and I tried to make him feel better but at this point im feeling bad for the guy too.

As I said earlier in the post I petitioned to see if a GM could help think of a way to somehow reward this guy, not that I was really expecting anything. I just started back to EQ less than 2 months ago after hardcore raiding from 1999-2009. Im wearing mostly cloth and gossamer but im good with the EQ economy and ive been able to buy 3 or 4 100pp caster items but outside of that I don't really have anything to give to make him feel better and lets be honest, a 100pp caster item aint going to change much. I guess I just wanted people to know about the amazing thing Kalsto did and if anyone has any recommendations on how I can show him thanks im all ears. Im sure there are some that say I should give it back to him since I couldn't kill the mob but like I said, I would have intervened and I think he did the right thing, and I don't expect ill ever get rid of this GBS. (My 70 or 75 Wiz Main from Original EQ still has his in the bank). If nothing, if anyone sees him in game tell him how great of a person he is on behalf of the EQ community!

By the way, I made some changes to chat windows and that she was piercing me which is why I assumed she had just the dagger. When I looked back at the chat I noticed she was punching me so I was seeing my own pierce messages. If I would have saw the punch messages my heart would have been pounding a lot harder....

Yea that's close to one of my thoughts. What im doing now is ive parked a Mule at the ruins and im still going back to do a night cycle here and there and if I get lucky and get another GBS drop ill be giving it to him. Realistically im going back maybe half as often and the odds aren't great but theres a chance...

You could always sell it and split the money if you are earnest...since you wouldn't have had it anyway. You would likely still gain from it by having a good story and a new friend.

When someone does you a huge favor, you either pay em back in kind or...don't. Making a half hearted attempt (as you mentioned in camping it towards the end) or asking someone else to pay back the favor are both worse than not doing anything and just moving on.

Opinion appreciated. Im pretty sure im making more of an attempt than most would and I really don't see neither of us having the GBS making sense. Im not asking for anyone to "pay back the favor" for me, but ive seen some GMs do some fun quirky stuff in the past that was memorable and helped alleviate odd situations so that was just a thought...

I guess I see it this way since Pyzjn is not a static spawn ive always considered it one that whoever engages first gets it. But yea, it does suck when youre clearing PHs and someone else snags the spawn.

i would literally have devoted my life to training this hypothetical person and or stealing all joy from their eq... i once kited around the guy in kael who drops the monk mace while some assholes tried to steal him and got really mad when my unguilded monk got the xp and loot rights i mean i gave it up just so i could say hey.. i could loot this but im not going to.. just know that im better than all of you and your top tier guild friends who tried to steal this and couldnt... im the one looting the corpse right now and not you... dont fuck with me ever again and so my blue monk pretty much talks all kinda shit and gets king groups and shit like as soon as i login sometimes(idk about these days but u get the idea)

I think it has to do with the newness of the server TBH. On Blue, people were really kind all the time in my experience.

With the new servers, everyone is starting from scratch, so people are more focused on/value more their plat and loot. With only classic content available, certain popular areas are very crowded and overcamped, which leads to more confrontations and tension. I think as the server ages a bit more and we get closer to Kunark, it will start getting better and people will chill out a bit more.

Pyzjn camp is just the devil and just a stupid script with a way too low spawn and drop rate. The dumbass I am already spent 150+ hours on that camp, killed her myself about 20 times, maybe even more and seen a few people kill it the same amount. She dropped GBS only 3 times in all those kills. I got my GBS on live within a shorter timesink than here on green. They should really change this and it gets me even to consider quiting greenserver. Its even a harder camp than Manastone with /list.

that was my thought. I think a part of you feels some guilt and that's why you made this thread to praise him and try to get him his, while still selfishly keeping the one he should have had. If you really wanna 'make it right' then just give it back imho.

Super easy to spend all game night making her pop using a well made guide on how to spawn her via. (Easy to find said guide.)

Or if you want to do something even easier and super lazy like I was, camp a ranger there and log in once it's time for the first possible spawns and track. If the mobs did the spawn work for you, go kill. If she isn't spawned, log off. I imagine I spent around 10 total minutes of actual game time to get mine, over a relaxing 5 day period.

Are you referencing the guide on the wiki? If so, something seems off...I'm definitely not getting a PH in those spots listed every 3 minutes on the dot. At least not on Teal.

You don't need to feel guilty or give the guy thanks for doing a decent thing-- like someone else said doing the right thing is thanks enough. Besides, If guy wasn't there, you would have medded up and gotten the stone yourself anyway, so...

And yeah it was dumb of you to engage prematurely, but if you hadn't engaged, he would have taken the camp from you. Regardless, of whether people consider killing PH's as 'camping' her, it technically is. Just because she wanders a bit, and is level 20 or whatever and its easy to one-shot her at higher levels, doesn't mean he had the right to her over you. People treat it as first come first serve with Pyz, but if you're sitting there trying to get her to spawn for hours, you're entitled to her camp, because you are actively trying to get her to spawn. It's still camp stealing when someone takes it from you, which means if that had happened then you could have petitioned and you would have won.

Instead he waited for you to die and stole your spawn, then he felt like a shit about it and gave you the item that should have been yours-- an item that you had been camping for days. Don't feel guilty. He can camp her for 3 days like you did and get his dumb stone like the rest of us.

I had Pyz nuked from under me when I camped her on Blue a long time ago-- I was actively fighting her on my similar-level character (she was bluebie to me), I didn't need help, had been fighting her for a good 30 seconds, and some level 50 literally just one-shotted her to steal the GBS from me because they saw she was just over half health.

And yeah, you can just easily steal Pyz away from someone engaging her or camping her, and people do-- But just because you can do that, doesn't mean you should, and doesn't mean you're in the right for doing so.

People saying you 'don't deserve it' or whatever, are nuts. Just showing up to kill something someone else was camping and died to is not 'deserving' of it btw, lol.

I never said Kalsto was going to KS me. But I believe he was about to engage after seeing me following her and sitting down as i followed her to med a little more. He may not have engaged her and yes i did rush in because i was afraid to lose my spawn, so numbnutz me. As the thread indicates, i was praising Kalsto, he did a good thing by giving me the stone. He did do a dick move though, he even admitted it and felt guilty for it which is why he gave me my stone. Obviously by the responses to this thread every has their own opinions, and you know they saying, theyre like assholes, we all have them and they all stink.

Nice story! I have been on the receiving end of this and on the other side of it as well. It's a cop out but P99 and specifically green launch kind of bred this kind of attitude with how everybody kind of acts about mobs and getting xp. Back in the day in the 2000s, 90% of the player base would not have thought twice about helping a dying player. Things are just different now. I try to help as much but am guilty of waiting for people to try a mob especially on a contested camp. Your post has inspired me to be better in 2020 about this! Thanks!

p.s. I think most players would have rushed to engage out of fear of the snipe. People on P99 love to use the "rules" to their advantage. No matter how poor etiquette it is, and I never blame them for it.

Thats just plain BS ….. I know the camp, i know the timers, spawnpoints and the PHs exactly and this is written nowhere!
Did this camp for almost 5 weeks, 8 - 12 hours a day with a short break of 3 days. I recorded 50 of my nights and had 150 spawn changes this way. Exactly 19 Pyzjn spawned during those times. I killed in total 49/50 Pyzjn ( i might be off 1) and got my GBS finally. So you sir have no clue what you talk about…..
