View Full Version : Lord Grimrot (Undead)
Why the flying hell is it on a 3h12m respawn with a bare 2% chance of spawning.
I've been at this for over 10 days ever since a guildy of mine got his (took him a mere 8 days).
This is not a bloody Manastone camp.
It's not a Guise either.
Hell, this item won't be removed at all.
Yes, I'm raging mad at this nonsense. Just why.
Is the other content not painful enough as it is?
Even the fishbone earring being a 6h spawn is not even half as bad as this.
So just FUCKING why.

Totally get your frustration as that camp is straight up cancersauce...
But it's like that because it's classic and p99 is all about trying to emulate 1999 as much as possible (for the most part)

I spent a week, 8-12 hrs a day doing this years ago.
Results: 5 yes 5 Undead Grimrots.
Thankfully they were looted but it took me giving up and a friend spotting live Grimrot sitting up years later to finish this.
Whats typical is whichever Grimrot appears first is the one you become cursed with.
Pray its the live one as he cannot spawn at night but the undead can spawn during night AND day.
I've had 5 or 6 Live Grimrot spawns.
As it stands right now, I get all spawns every day almost.
Some days, I sleep through one of them because seriously, I won't get sick over this flawed game design.
Still though, I don't understand why it has to be so cancerous.
I wouldn't want it to be too easy either. 4-5 Days to me seems a pretty fair time investment. But as it stands right now, it's insane.
My guildy who successfully did this after 8 days, pretty much slept in between the 3hours 12m window and he too was about to give up considering the time he had spent not missing a single spawn.
Be it classical or not, I don't see why this camp is this bad. Remove the PH? I'd be okay with that. Leave it as it stands with the 3h12m, whatever. Make it hard. But remove the PH. More people would have the Live version of it, it'd still be challenging to get the Undead.
It's not like it's game breaking to make a big deal out of it if there was such change.
But hell, for the future players at the very least, it'd be nice if they too could get it.

Its quite an amazing item for a mid 30ies quest.
Like I said took me a couple years to complete after giving up, it’s not suppose to be easy.
Barely anyone does it in their 30s.
I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of lunatics who don't seem to understand the difference of time spent between a Manastone and this.

I pulled my normal group together at work when he spawned, in 2000. Looking forward to it this time, not. :)

you can say that again lol
I was camping it on my 35 Paly and when he spawned- I wiped.
Def should be lvl 40 to solo kill Grimot.

Live Grimrot is no joke and I understand.
It's good to have it that way. Make it challenging and I'm all about it.
Again, it comes down to how rare it is.
I don't mind the 3h12m respawn. Really, I don't.
But something about the PH or % needs to change...
Taking years or months or weeks over something that not a lot of people actually know about is just straight mental.

Yeah I got live Grimrot and have pretty much given up all hope. There comes a time when it's just not worth it. And I advise that no one should ever do this quest consider your own health both mental and physical.

This was the camp that made me grow tired of EQ back in 2000 or so when I quit for the first time. I later came back for Kunark launch.
I camped it for a week I would sleep of course, had work back then, but other than sleeping and work I was camping him. Got the undead one first and never saw the live one.

Yeah the item really isn't great for the time you put into it, but hey "I nEeD mOaR wiZdUm"
I feel like a lot of players have quit over this camp.
I also feel like this camp has the higher suicide rate ever.
I've got 3 done between Red and Blue, and now on Green I have the scythe from the live version on my mage ready to go when it becomes MQable. The nature of the camp is you just need to get 2 grimrots of ANY type and eventually you'll be able to find someone willing to trade for what you don't have. Just be prepared to recorpse and juggle those lore hearts and scythes every 5-6 days.

If only it really was 5-6 days.
Oh wait...
So on top of that it's not even MQable right now?
lol the dogshit level of this quest is rising.

How dare the game not just give you loot, if you want instant gratification and EZ loot i hear WoW has a classic server, that game completely destroyed mmorpg genre with its instant gratification and EZ loot.

Somebody needs to go back to school to learn how to read the posts I've been writing!
Read and perhaps you may come up with an actual relevant reply.

If you read the old Grimrot posts you'll see the devs weren't looking to make it easier, just more classic.
But when it comes to MQing it I don't know if it was always meant to be MQable, or if there was documentation that showed it should become MQable at a certain point. I presumed the latter but it might just be something they had not yet gotten around to back when p99 started up.

Got this on Blue after weeks of checking the spawn every 3h12 by alarm. Sometimes losing camp to others when afk too long, etc. etc. Took around 20 days average probably 5 checks per day of the possible ~8 pops a day. Got undead version probably 5-6 times in this time, only saw Live one once and he almost wooped my clerics ass. I got really lucky, I ran out of mana (Level 38 I think) nuking him and some nice dude came by and saved me.
Definitely a brutal camp but the item is quite amazing for back slot for Clerics. ESPECIALLY in this era I would say more so than other era since the only other WIS item for back is the +4 wis mana cloak.

Being as it may, doesn't make it less stupid.
It's one thing when a game is made in a certain way with genuine flawed game design, it's another to make something challenging and yet still enjoyable for a player.
Also don't tell me in any shape or form that an item that gets replaced very soon actually is worth that much of a wait.
No matter how you look at it, it's a major flaw and it only shows how competent the GMs are.
