The Dec. 7th post you mention is a summary of changes from launch up to that point. It does not imply that summon corpse was added in December. Only that it was added at some point before that.

This one confused me, I'm on my third necro and I don't remember anything that allows one to summon a stronger pet other than dismissing and recasting until you get the highest level possible for the pet spell.

A revision was made to a bug with Dragons, which was introduced with the patch last week.
The new Necromancer spell, Summon Corpse, is now live and functioning as intended.


December 21, 1999

After a week of thorough testing, the Summon Corpse spell is now functioning properly (we promise!), and available on all servers.


In addition, it is now possible to cast Cancel Magic on non-grouped players on the PvP and PvP-teams servers.
All changes were made on the server-side, therefore no patch is required.


From everyone on the EverQuest team, and Verant Interactive, we would like to wish all of you safe and happy holidays.

Yes. And no.

Your post I quoted provided the link and specifically mentioned the December 7th entry. Said entry is a summary of all changes from release to that point so couldn't be interpreted as the exact time the spell was added.

I did not read beyond that entry to those Dec 14 and 21st posts which corrected issues with the spell. So I missed that. With that information you could say the spell wasn't usable until after Dec 21.
