How far does Druid Track work?

Just curious how far a Druid can track? Is it further than what the Druid can actually see in front of him? Or is it basically just whats immediately around him?

As far as you can spit :)

Honestly it can be usefull if you can not see very far, like in dungeons. Outside, the usefullness is pretty marginal.
