I had installed the high-res texture package when I started on P99 (pre-Kunark). The instructions said to back up all .s3d files - which I did, then install the new .s3ds - which I did.

Well, little did I notice that the package didn't include the Kunark .s3ds. My fiancee had also done the same texture install, and we were both befuddled as to why we couldn't zone into TD on the ferries from BB/Oasis. Then it hit me: check and see if I have the zone files.

Yep, sure didn't.

So I threw the TD files in thinking everything would be all good.. yep, it worked. Got on Maiden's Voyage and we were excited to venture out. Then the zone border for Firiona Vie came up, and again, the boat disappeared, and we dropped into the ocean.

After about 20 minutes of swearing and wading about wildly, my fiancee (a druid) gated out. Well, that's half the problem solved. I am a rogue, so...

wade, wade, wade.

lots of expletives.

So I crashed my client (to prevent drowning and NEVER recovering my corpse) and came back today and fired off a petition. Hobby (who is awesome in my book already) responded almost immediately and ported me to shore advising that I fix my .s3d discrepancy.

tl;dr Hobby is awesome. P99 is awesome. I am a big stupid. I fixed the problem.

I'm donating as soon as I can. :D Long live P99!

The method that worked for me was COPYing all of the original s3d files to a backup folder (just in case) and then extracting the new files into the directory and selecting overwrite for all. What I believe was the OP's issue was removing the original s3d files from the EQ directory and then extracting. Since not all of the s3d files have high res versions, those without the updated files had been removed from the directory leaving the client nothing to load. Whichever method you choose to use the key is to remember that not every needed file exists in the high res texture download so you need to be sure you don't remove any of those that aren't.

Had a similar problem in OT coming off the boat, crashed to desktop and came back swimming in the sea. Took me about 15 minutes of swimming to see any dry land, in hindsight I should have petitioned but it did help my swimming :D

(and Hobby really is quite awesome)
