So a few friends and I got into a discussion about which class is best for a very specific play style - None of us yielding to the other, I figured I'd bring the debate here and see what this lovely community has to say on the matter. The play style is: very casual, not needing to pay much attention, maybe even playing on a laptop without a mouse while doing chores around the house, looking to XP and farm $$$. The catch is, they also need to be fun to gear.
Discuss!

Necro.

I picked the classes I liked that didn't require a lot of management n maneuvering. Leveling melees by quest / geering off greens, even wisps is a good option ifffff willing to see a level a week kind of progress.
All that said. A necro can also lazily spam life taps n still be kinda OP.

Surprised to see cleric getting as many votes. I get that it is a "hurry up and sit" kinda class but with this play style it wouldnt be grouping. I guess they are super wizards against undead.

Can even lvl off non undead with a cleric. Just takes a full mana bar. Almost everything is killable. Pop DE hide or gate to a safe spot on the wall. Come back 30 minutes later and do it all over again.

Conversely a war can rip through 20 light greens n bind wound, n be ready to go again in an hr. It is really cathartic.

I love my necro when I do play actively though, she really shines.

Don't be afraid to spec a class evocation u wouldn't normally otherwise if playing like this. Dru, clr come to mind.
I want to say with druids that they can quad with very little effort no spells need research n have every other option available.

Gonna buck the trend and say Shammy, they’re just too stronk and I think they’re way more fun to gear than Necro.

Lol this community. Monk has most votes atm and is arguably the most high performance class in game. GL getting any reasonable input. The only class that fits this description is rog

Rogues can afk stealthily in grps very well.

Wizard is my vote. You can level up solo with a high ratio of exp per time spent at keyboard. Lots of medding = lots of chores! Yo dawg, I heard you like grinding, so we put some weights by your desk so you can grind while you grind! You can even work on your quads while you quad! I know I put on some muscle while leveling Seaglass!
Is it fun to gear? I dunno, I think so. Flux staff, spyglass or Acumen mask, go nuts on int gear until 200, then shift to mana gear; collect weight-reduction bags to aid your weak little wizard muscles; get some resist gear to deal with casters.

Surprised noone is mentionning SK.
They FD just as well as Necros or Monks, allowing for immediate AFKs which seems to be required.
They are, however, a lot more fun to gear than necros or monks. Necros don't need much gear, monks don't HAVE much gear choice pre-kunark.
Also, there are few SK's running around on Green, which makes you more unique.

Have 60 wiz. 40ish - 59 was quad kiting. 59 was camping that Ogre in Neriak, 7 minutes at a time.
Gearing them? yeah that is nice. Epic click 800 point rune and auto cannon robe (https://wiki.project1999.com/Solist%27s_Robe_of_Invocation). Typical things like flux staff, jboots and peg cloak.
Go dark elf for the skull helmet. (https://wiki.project1999.com/Helot_Skull_Helm) I chose innoruuk but would choose Solusek if I did it over again, better /ooc RP banter to burn everything vs. nukes of hatred.

Easy choice, necro. I don't think any other class checks all those boxes.
Necro for sure. All the attributes you listed were reasons for me to choose Necro.. plus being able to FD and /q or AFK or just FD in general is what lead me to main my necro. The only catch is being mindful of lich. I have eaten a few deaths because I was alt tabbed out and forgot about EQ for 10 minutes.

Druid, root rot to 60 go where ever you want whenever you want, join groups and support raids whenever you're in the mood

Warrior is best.
I had a longer post half-written but realized OP is from 2011 so I'm sure he knows this also.

Root rot is one of the absolute worst methods of leveling as a druid and one is pretty much unsustainable at high levels.
