View Full Version : Are there any actual new players?

I created a Barbarian Rogue and have met a few higher level people that were very helpful (shout out to Yuchan and Potatus) and I've somehow made my way to Greater Faydark at level 5. I'm asking out loud if any other players around my level want to team up, but they seem to be alternate characters that are powering their way through the content. Should I just quit now or are there genuine new players out there that are looking for adventure and friendship?

I dont think many people group at lvl 5 because its still fairly trivial to solo for any class. Theres more groups as you get a bit higher. In GFay you can try looking for groups at the orcs near Crushbone, or in a few levels look inside CB for groups.

Even if theres not many "new" players, there still should be plenty of alts grouping. Also, the real grind is from 50-60 when Kunark comes out, so assuming you get to 50 before then, you will be on a level playing field with everyone else.

There are TONS of brand new players and returning players on P99. Green was a huge boon to the population. I can't tell you the number of people I've met in game who said they use to play back in the day and decided to finally try P99 due to green.

Please don't give up, P99/Classic Everquest is hard but very rewarding the further you get.
Levels 1-20 can be some of the hardest levels, Put your head down and push through. Send /tell to people and do /who level 5 10 to try and put together groups.

Don't get discouraged and check out the https://wiki.project1999.com

ps. Rogue is a grouping class, Be aggresive about finding groups to join. Get on group lists for dps. Find out who the leader of the group is and ask them to add you to the DPS List.

there's almost always a group at orc hill but the fastest xp on faydwer from 4-8 is probably the kobolds in steam. rogue doesn't have the best synergy with most gnome toons but you might be able to recruit a tank or something from gfay. you should be able to use commands like /who all 3 7 lfg to see who's lfg.

I'm returning, and my highest character is 12. I'm currently leveling a new Necro. I think other people are right when they say most people start grouping a little higher up in levels, but I did see groups going when I was in Crushbone, and EC has orc groups going too.

Also, I suspect a lot of folks are in a similar situation to me where life's responsibilities necessitate soloing most evenings, just in case we need to drop everything to take care of something around the home. But still, I'm looking forward to grouping one of these nights I know I can play uninterrupted! Don't lose hope for groups!

I came across a very scared necromancer last week. He had run from Nektulos to Highkeep to get his son's pet spells for him and died in the process (being a necro, guards didn't like him) and had to run back again needing an invis from good samaritans along the way.

People are still new here, the biggest barrier to playing P99 is still getting it set up ^^

If you get a chance to benefit from a little bit of easy-mode by grouping with other people's twinked characters, I recommend it. :) The journey to 50 (and especially to 60) is long. You'll have plenty of harrowing adventures along the way.

I believe Green99 attracted a bunch of actual new players because a lot of them joined <Castle>. It apparently also gathered up a bunch of Live/TLP players (and I must admit it is fun to see their jaws drop about missing easy-mode features hehehe).

There are a surprising number of new EQ players on the server, actually.

Tons of new players. Myself included. I played a few weeks b4 green on blue just to get a feel for EQ again.. funny I was in castle on blue, and joined castle first bit of Green as well. Left Castle when I went to teal last day of November.

Castle still great peeps, and i know tons of new to P99 players like myself there. Heck tons in kingdom are new to p99 as well.

Green attracted tons of new players. I was one of them. I was also constantly meeting people who had just came back to EQ for the first time in x years.

I am seeing lots of new players, both to p99 and to EQ as a whole. Been a nice experience meeting and playing with these folks :)

I am also a new player, from what I had observed people start to really group up at about 10th level or so when the classes that are less equipped for soloing can be easily slain by blue cons. I have also found that if I want a group, I have to be active in running to camps and asking people if I can join them. Also, a lot of noobs on this server can get gear pretty quick once they become aware they can sell bone shards, hides, and other crafting materials to high level players.

lol bone shards <3 agreed noob! J/K. Welcome to p99 Doodylich666..
I will say usually peeps solo until at least 6/7. Which is usually starting area(besides barb race that noob starting zone is brutal, I've seen plenty group with other lvl 1s there) everything is blue/green and not giving xp. So they start to adventure out. Only to be rudly murdered by some blue lvl 5/6 and thats when their like oh, its time to group. IE orc camps, noob undead ruins, etc depending on zone.

I played retail EQ way way back, but I never got to play Classic EQ, so I'm "relatively new".

Although technically I am new, since my only character is a level 7 human monk, haha.

The way people on Green act is basically if you're not a twink then you're obviously a noob who doesn't know how to play game.

Because I totally didn't have full PoH, PoG, and SkyShrine gear before months before any other rogue on my server during live. I totally need someone to explain to me the intricacies of Crushbone and how to pull Death Beetles in Unrest.

Back in the day, some people didn't group until about level 20 or so. Not everyone joined the madness at Crushbone. Things are... slightly different here in 2020. I've noticed despite some people thinking we're over crowded, the market for bone chip stacks is surprisingly slack. It's hard to sell them. I think it's just a matter of the culture being different.

I am new too, been poking around trying to figure out which class/race combo is grabbing me this time around. I played mostly wiz before, so I'm looking forward to learning/re-learning the game.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHThe game is not hard now, aside from being a massive time sink, and I think anyone would argue that doing any content 20 years ago was significantly more challenging than it is now.

So yes, having a level 15 warrior wearing crafted armor pull Ambassador D'vinn and the entire TR turn around and rage and call me a noob because they died and I don't have twink gear is somewhat dumbfounding. Crafted armor wasn't even considered good twink gear 20 years ago, and just because I'm wearing Raw Hide armor doesn't mean that I don't know how to play the game. I guess this is also why I'm level 25 and this person is still level 16 despite being a twink and despite me playing a class that can't solo.

New / returning player here as well. Stopped playing EQ back in 2006 and just finally got P99 up and running yesterday. Created three new characters on Green and am just really enjoying the nostalgia of classic EQ.

Feel free to look me up for grouping, though all my characters are under lvl 5 at the moment: Areyus (Bard near Freeport), Tolarus (Cleric near Qeynos), Vorendral (Wizard near Neriak).

Oh snap, I grouped with Yuchan yesterday. Yes, there are new players. I'd say the majority have experience to different degrees.

"New" in the sense that my highest level P99 toon is a 17 Necro.

"Not New" in the sense that I actually played EQ from release to Omens before "retiring".

Have been back to Live periodically to see how things go, look for old friends, etc. Not a fan of the game as it sets right now.

Played on Blue here and there.. had a 15 Monk with a Ton Po staff. Deleted and switched to Green, reliving the old memories and old spots. Would love to get the old crew over here but most all have like this life thing happening, no time for games anymore.

So other than the static group symbiosis (you get to know what the others will do before they do it kinda thing) I'm back in Norrath, this time an evil b*tch instead of a fluffy halfling. If I had know it was this fun I would have rolled a Necro the first time lol.

I have a 50 Druid and a twink lvl 5 warrior and have grouped with a few real noobs at orc hill in Greater Fay. It’s fun and I enjoy helping and giving advice. There are a few bad apples out there just like anything else but far more friendly good folks willing to help! Jump in and get friendly with folks!

There are certainly a lot of twinks roaming around already, but there are always groups (Even on blue there was never an issue with this and I joined Blue when Kunark was well into effect). Lvl 5 is kind of that ugly level, its slow solo and you aren't likely to find many groups. EQ has a habit of having some gross spikes in lvling.

Push through a couple more lvls and I can imagine you will be picking up groups np.

Initially played from launch until PoP. Started fresh on green last week. Trying to relearn the game as quickly as possible. I still have some muscle memory - that was a huge surprise.

actually retail TLP's have been taking everyones interest, there's absolutely no reason to play EQ1 when its more than 3 moths old, the endgame of EQ is terrible so everyone is waiting to jump on that new TLP so they can start over again, no new player will be joining green anytime soon

You can start all over again with an alt on green. If anything the TLPs probably send more people to to p99 than vice versa.

you can start over with 0 other players on a top ended server, thats not how it works, new players are not stupid. TLP are always mega packed when they first come out because everyone starts at level 1 and thats the only way a new player can enjoy eq1, p99 would have to add a new server with no transfers allowed every 4-5 months to stay on TLP's level of day 1 population
