How many alts do you have?

Just something I've been wondering about, do most people play this game with several alts? I've been told to just focus on one class (I have 4 different characters, the highest is level 30), but can't resist the itch and am wondering if I am spreading myself too thin.

How do you all play? Just curious about whether many people play only one character and nothing else.

21 Wiz I focus mostly, and a 7 Paladin I might play more often after I get some gear together.

I try to focus on one guy at a time, but I'm finding that around the mid-40's I start to really feel the effects of my limited playtime and get ansty with barely making any progress in a sitting, so I've got a 49 ranger and 47 necro. I'm bound and determined to get the necro to at least 51, but am starting to experience that same feeling when I log out that I've barely made any progress, and am getting antsy!

I currently have no alts that I have played yet but have a few planned. My first will be a Shaman. Next will most likely be a Rogue. Then will be either a Paladin, a Necromancer or a Magician.

50 Cleric main, 35 ranger who is stripped clean, level 4 mage with focus items but kind of decided I didn't want to do it now ;p and just alts to hold legacy items. My next serious alt will be a melee DPS rogue or monk

I always have alts. Some days I'm in different moods for different playstyles. Gearing several characters hasn't been great for my coin purse though.

If you can, it's probably best to get one to max level first (or a druid to 39-44 for port $) becuase that first one can be used to farm plat/gear for your alts.

two. But I wouldn't consider me having a main or an alt. I like all of them, some I play more. I leveled wizard straight to 45 without any other chars playing, but atm I'm a bit burned out on him. Check signature. I'm not rolling any new characters before Kunark I think. Iksar SK is big on nostalgia for me.

Having alts is a great way to play. In terms of sitting LFG at a zone line for an hour or more sometimes, wouldn't it be great to have another character you want to group with that's ready to go in case of that happening?

With Kunark I had characters parked in Oasis, MM, CoM or Sebilis... so if there was no slots available in some there were always alternatives :)

This is a big motivator for me as well. As a fairly casual player, I often can't play for long stretches. So joining a list and waiting 2 hours to get in at the ideal camp isn't really a good choice for me. So I LFG somewhere for 5ish mins. If prospects don't look good, I try the next character. And I always have a solo-capable character that I can play for the times I can't find any groups at all and don't want to waste my xp session.

48 Monk (by 46 has been pretty much BiS gear including cloak from inny:) )
46 Cleric (Fully geared pre planar minus GEBS)
35 druid(EC geared) Mainly a port bot (does minus PL on), one day will get to 49 just to help PL faster. Usually use SK or now Monk to PL
26 Wizzy (Twinked with pre planar BiS minus including Phinny staff, Missing GEBS, and shoulder)
21 Warrior (Twinked including haste items, Rubi, Skarlon Sword, Mithiril gear BiS preplanar, has dragon loot as well:) )

Currently Leveling Wizzy as my focus to have an actual DPS toon, Monk is decent dps, but really want a nice range dps, plus ports is amazing to have.

Noob here. Total 5 characters on two servers. Didn't know which server to choose and which class to play. Now I play them all. I may start favoring some characters in a time. They are all low level now, highest 22.

But sometimes it helps having more than one toon at different levels. You want to farm CB but it is too busy. You switch to another toon who spawns at shraloc bags. But it is already camped. You switch to another toon which spawns at sisters bandits camp in LF.... Camp camped? OK lets load another toon that is looting Craig Spiders... Much more choices that way, and since I'm in no rush for higher levels, since I enjoy the journey itself...

About two servers. You are waiting on boat? Fire up another computer, load toon from another server, not boring any more :)

Thank you all for the replies. Seems like for the most part, people like to jump around between classes from time to time. Good to know I'm not the only one!

It's a weird game. Sometimes I just have the urge to try something else, but often I kind of wish I had some "holy grail" class that keeps me engrossed at the exclusion of other ones. That way I can say I really identify with a single class, but whatever

I felt that way about the Rogue class when I started EQ in '99.. it was a carryover from my table-top RPG days and the rogue I played in that I'm sure, but still that was me.

Retired in Omens and still to this day only level 67 lol

I get bored easily, cannot play a single class all the time, so I have one of every class. On green especially, I feel sad for max level characters who have nothing better to do than grief noobs as they wait for Kunark to come out in five months lol

I've come to realize that this is the ONLY way to play. Alts parked at every major dungeon ensures easy grouping whenever grouping is desired. Also think of how EQ is designed... with its long ass tedious camps for quest pixels. Aegis of Life comes to mind. Park an alt on Grimrot, log off, check back in 3 hours.
