Greetings citizens of Green -

On Sunday, July 12th at 10 pm EST, Seal Team will be hosting a gnome race from the entrance of Ak'anon to the Fear portal in Feerrott. The winner of the race will be the first person to reach Cyndreela and be killed by her. In the event there is any sort of interference with Cyndreela, I will make an announcement as the gnomes begin entering Feerrott and you will instead need to hail me (Zurtalpus) to win.

The rules for the race are as follows:

1. You must be in PVP mode, buffless, naked, level 1.
2. You must take the boat from butcherblock to freeport.
3. You may not use abilities or attacks on other gnomes racing.

If you would like to spectate, or help judge the race please feel free to. Please do not change your higher level characters to PVP in an attempt to interfere in the race.

During the boatride from Butcherblock to Freeport we will be raffling off prizes. If you win a prize, please let one of the judges know which character you would like the item to go to and we will make sure it gets to them post race.

The top 3 finishers in the race will earn a complete multiquest of journeyman boots. Post race we will arrange a time for it to be completed. The ring, gold, the rapier and ports will all be provided to help you get the boots on any character.

I feel like this is Palabin's idea... is this Palabin's idea? Must be Palabin's idea. ;)

This is not Palabin's idea. This is actually the second gnome race, the first one took place a couple months ago and was a Kingdom event, this one will be open to the entire server.

Been awhile since I’ve been in the tunnels to the fear portal but isn’t it basically impossible to get there without going through a Spectre (assuming no one is killing them). If so, kind of a poor choice for an ending point since it basically means the people leading the race get killed by the Spectres and the people right behind them (if any) get through

Most times of day on green its impossible to run through them and find a spectre alive or un-engaged...if this were at 7 AM on a Monday it might be a problem but probably not by the time the gnomes arrived.

Yes, death will come to many brave gnomes in the tunnels.

They're a final gauntlet to overcome. Maybe someone will kill them and you should power through to the goal... maybe they wont.. We'll see you on the other side!

Yeah like I said seems like a weird place to choose for the end of a race and kind of unfair at that. If you’re the Gnome that’s in first place (and therefore first to run past the Specs) you’re basically guaranteed to lose if no one has killed the Spectres. Seems nonsensical from a race perspective

It's a gnome race, this isn't the indy 500, it's about fun. Come run a 30 minute race, maybe get a pair of journeyman boots and some other fun prizes if you make it to the boat in time for the raffles.

If it was about fun they wouldn't have you play a gnome to do it.

1. Is SOW allowed?
2. How does the race start? i.e. what is the starting line that gnomes must be behind, and who shouts GO?

zags
07-01-2020, 01:10 PM
1. All gnomes must be naked and buffless throughout the entirety of the race. It will not be difficult to identify those who cheat this and we will hopefully have some GM support ensuring the rules are followed.
2. The race will start in Akanon, there is a little room near the entrance where everyone will start. The start time will not be exactly 10pm but will be sometime close to there to ensure that there is minimal time spent at the docks in Butcherblock.

Whats the purpose of flagging as PvP if you cant attack other gnomes? Also, can you use self buffs? This sounds like fun!

zags
07-11-2020, 11:29 AM
There are two ways to go with it, either we don't flag pvp and someone could troll by buffing random people and we have to trust every racer to click the buffs off... Or we flag pvp and people can't get buffs. Of course this opens us up to people trolling in other ways, but we will have some defense measures set up. Anyone who attacks another gnome will be disqualified.

Ahh, so if flagged PvP you cannot receive buffs from a player? I did not know that, interesting. Ill be making me a new Gnome tonight to participate!

A good question was asked - do not change your bind point from Ak'anon. Anyone using any sort of bind shenanigans to jump ahead will be disqualified.

Me and my buddy started a couple of pvp-flagged characters on Green earlier this summer for shits and giggles, and we just hit 20 today. I feel like seeing how many level 1 Gnomes I can take on is my destiny. What are my chances of getting banned for this kind of "participation"?

zags
07-12-2020, 05:20 PM
I can't imagine it would be a bannable offense, however it would certainly not be appreciated as the pvp flag is only intended to prevent people from getting buffed and its obviously not a pvp event. There are a lot of lower level/new players I've spoken to who plan on coming to the race, I'd love to keep it clean for their sake.

It was an interesting race for sure. Zone crashes, GM help. Fun all around but changing rules at the end for determining winner kinda soured it for me.

They decided to change rules at end, didn't have to be killed by Cindreela to win

Suppose to be get to cindreela and get killed by her. 1st and 2nd did that. 3rd place didn't go to 3rd person killed, but instead they awarded it to Gibletsgooo . They said he got to cindreela first but didn't get killed by her, was a good 4 or 5 other gnomes fighting for the death by her.

Guessing that Giblet person was a guildy of theirs. Only explanation for why they would suddenly change the rules like that.

the explanation was given, there was interference from people at the portal causing 3rd place guy to not be able to be killed by cyndreela due to someone charming her, allowing more people to show up when 3rd place guy otherwise would of already taken 3rd place naturally by dying to her

Sarkhan

From what I saw Cyndreela was agroed on Pinetop, their own "protector" that's in Seal Team.
There's interference throughout the entire race from people creating lvl1 trolls to the difference of people killing spectres. First few racers in spectre were down, others they were up

If that's the case what bothers me is they didn't call it earlier, instead they let people fight cyndreela with the hope and excitement that the game was still in play and never declared a winner until after 3rd death to cyndreela that wasn't giblets.

Bigsham
07-14-2020, 08:18 AM
You cant honestly expect no one to interfere, all the pictures of the piles of gnomes were ruined by a stupid elf bard anyways

Yeah definitely some suspect stuff.

Also called the spectre situation being an issue before the race began

The first two racers made it to Cyndreela fine and got aggro and died. At that point one of the bards who was there protecting the raid from other pvpers (of which there were many in the swamp/feerrott) inadvertently got aggro. At this point Giblit ran into the room and was the first gnome to Cyndreela, then a swarm of gnomes ran in. Cyndreela got charmed or feared or something and went walking off. Rather then making the third winner an RNG fest we discussed it and ruled to give it to Giblit, who would've been killed had the bard not gotten aggro.

I personally gave away over 30k of my own currency and a lot of my time to organize this event and put it on. Obviously things weren't perfect, the zone crashes really caused some headaches and delays and in the future the race will have a clearer requirement for winning. The first time we did this race being killed by Cyndreela worked because we didnt have tons of people in the room spectating and interfering. This time the race ended up much bigger then expected.

If anyone would like to see video of the ending to the race to see how far ahead Giblit was, I can get it uploaded.

As far as the spectre situation, it was always known this was going to be some RNG. This wasn't some super serious race, it was a goofy gnome race where I wanted to give away some stuff and let people have fun.

Busy with work at the moment and can't get the video uploaded, but here is a quick screenshot, this was what we based the winner off of. Obviously it wasn't the ideal situation, but I thought it was the fairest thing to do. If there had been no interference he would've been the first to die.

Like I said, definitely something to learn from and I intend to do the next race with a clearer finish line.

The race was really well organized and run given all the technical difficulties. I don't think anyone seriously believes that the RNG shenanigans at the portal were deliberate. Please tell me none of you actually believe that lol.

Really fun event, P99 needs way more stuff like this. The only thing that would have improved the race is if one of the PVP flagged ST bards used their AoE fear song on the Butcherblock dock, scattering the filthy gnomes into the sea.

I get the frustration, the rule's were established as "the first three people killed by Cyndreela are the winners", however even at the start of the race I announced that could change to "whomever hails Zurtalpus first" in the event Cyndreela was compromised. At the point where Cyndreela got compromised, there wasn't enough time to change to "hail Zurtalpus", so instead I went with who came in first.
