Hey all,
We've just done a quick reboot of the Splitpaw zone on Green. With this reboot we are implementing the following:
Spell: Summon Corpse is now a /list item. This will exist until Kunark. You must be a level 39 or higher Necromancer to join. You must not currently own the spell (Inventory or Scribed). The lockout is permanent. Anyone who has already looted the spell has been retroactively locked out.
Additionally, we are delaying the opening of the Plane of Sky until August 14th.

we just got a couple necros down there, they dont have the spell, have never had it in their possession. They cant join the list and are lvl 50. They have petitioned about it.

Just curious, not trying to be a pain in the butt, but why is this spell being treated different than class specific epic components.. why aren’t they changed like this? I mean it sure would be nice if guilds couldn’t be greedy for years locking down epics and equipment that only fill their bank coffers. Just feels like heavy catering to the poop sock raiding guilds.

Has the spell been dropping on the Ishva kills since July (Dec 1999 era)?? If so, bugged obviously, if not -- perhaps they delayed its dropping until Jan 2000 era.

AFK checks every ~10 minutes on a 36 hour spawn. I can’t wait to camp one on each of my necromancers.

Wouldn't it have been simpler to just disable corpse summoning in sky until Kunark?

Why would I wait? Listing manastones was the highlight of playing here. I wasn’t being sarcastic.

The new change creates a competitive environment for elite gamers to obtain a spell necessary for Plane of Sky. It is a net benefit to the community and a welcomed change.

Remember that back in the day, there weren't 3,000 people in 10 different raid guilds on the same server reading the Project 1999 Wiki and planning their strategy for a plane that didn't yet exist and camping a single mob with a 36-hour spawn time that sometimes drops Spell: Summon Corpse a month in advance of the existence of said plane.
Let us also remember that the original justification for the /list system, back when it was for legacy items, was that it approximately replicated the classic solution to contested camps: a GM would show up and set a list order for who gets the item next. I'd say this is about as good as it's going to get. The hardcoded list will cut down on petitions.

The list is at least 11 people long right now. Even if the spell drops every time, that's 396 hours of AFK checks every 15 minutes. That's 16 days of poop socking.
I mean, that's not possible. How is this even going to work?

Eliminate the check every 10 minutes and make it every 10 hours.

add personal loot in lieu of the list system. anyone who engages in the kill would have a chance at high ticket, time limited items.
short of that, instancing?

Increase the frequency of the spawn, institute longer afk check windows as suggested above, make the spell unusable until kunark. Those are just some ideas. I'm sure there are others.

Obviously, people will drop off the list that can't stay that long. Only the neckiest of beards will be acquiring the spell pre-kunark, but at least people have a chance now.

The list is long, but lets face it how many people got Manastone or ruby BP. or even Mask(at end it was a week list even).. People account share to get it. Not unheard of at all. List is a great tool, to keep petitions down. Now everyone has a chance to get a spell that is pretty much a requirement for a whole raid. Be happy, I am. hopefully they do the same with Seb keys, and important crap in Kunark. Truly if the spell dropped at start of this month though, it sucks they didn't do this sooner. But I am sure GMs noticed a certain group camping it 24/7 since the 1st of the month. Hence their choice. So Ty staff for doing this.

The lockout occurs after you loot the item? Or if you have it in your inventory / scribed? Also, is it No Drop?

The lockout occurs when you are #1 on the list and the item drops. He refers to people with the spell scribed or in their inventory because some people had already looted it.
In short, you can only camp this thing once per necro.

With a competent tracker, you can get a seb key in 10 mins. The hunter/forager cycle are roaming mobs too. List for that would be both unnecessary and impossible to implement.

DMO vs DMO, interesting.
So I'm not in IT. Someone explain to me. Is it possible to create a 2nd virtual server on the type of server that hosts EQ like you have make multiple virtual drives on your PC's hard drive?
I imagine that the server capacity to run serverside p99 is pretty modest, but I dunno anything either. There are people in this community that have run (or helped run) EQEmu boxes though.

If you run servers on something like vmware its as easy as telling it to duplicate the VM then changing its connection info to avoid conflict. Im no EQEmu guru, but from what I understand that server would be a second copy of the software that handles the game rules and connectivity. A database server runs the DBMS that maintains the DB which contains all the character info, and possibly other data, so that is a separate consideration.

On Green, every Manastone was milked from the time it was capable of being camped till it went away (save any that rotted because #1 in line didn't loot it).
On blue, the camp was frequently open and stone dropped much more frequently. Blue also has 1/10th to 1/3rd the population (I remember a huge celebration when we hit 300 after months and months).
Blue also has 1/10th to 1/3rd the population (I remember a huge celebration when we hit 300 after months and months).
Green population is staggeringly higher than Blue was at any time pre-Kunark. The p99 population is a good order of magnitude more top-heavy, min/max and well informed than Live classic ever was. I think Green is another order of magnitude beyond what Blue was.
For perspective, on Blue redwood wands were radically more common drops, were from static (not roaming) mobs and they were pretty much never camped ever, because almost nobody knew about them (and because they were common enough that you got a full set before too long).

Back in the day most people "wasted" their time on useless fun and social interactions in game. Now we are all pro's and need the best pixels at all times, therefore the entire game is a bottleneck of leet-ness. This is why these /list systems are needed.

My apologies for the very, very silly noob question, but I can't understand the post -- is...well, was...the /list for the spell being removed by Kunark's release, or the item drop for the spell? Because not being able to summon someone's body at Level 39 would make me pretty sad.

The /list is gone. It is now simply a camp. To hold the camp, you have to keep the room clear, which is 1 trash mob about level 37-38 on a 22-minute timer. There is a cleric mob just outside the room that will heal through the walls. It's best to clear the trash mob in the room and the two trash mobs outside. That is probably not possible on a level 39 unless you're a badass enchanter with guts of steel.
The Ishva Mal's spawn time is still 36 hours (though that will be changed at some point in the future)
Bear in mind there is a much better version of Summon Corpse, Conjure Corpse, at level 57.

I often wondered how the hell anyone knows how to play this zone. Like I was in nizzars guild and raided sky and it was just like everyone had done the raid ten thousand times and that was for the first evil eye kill. I had never seen the zone at all.

There was a test server, there were betas, GM's and guides and devs raided with guilds, people also gathered info from the game files and packet sniffing I believe. Look at epic quests too, it would have taken years for them all to get figured out without hints and help, yet they were all being done regularly throughout the late Kunark and Velious timelines.

12-14-2020, 07:39 PM
Fammaden good points. Epic quests were considered quite a big deal though on live, not something like we have today where X and X and X definitely have to happen or else something is wrong. It was way more mysterious.
