This damn USA election was great entertainment, I never cared for international politics till Trump ran for office, that shit was lit seeing some character like him get up and just call it how it is.

Just got up called Hillary crooked to her face and the world, won the WH and had liberals attack him for 4 years straight because he beat their darling candidate.

Amazing stuff, don't know how he put up with it.

Our regular roofer, on the other hand... He has political stickers on his work trucks. I overlooked his retardation for as long as I could, but when he tried to tell me about pizzagate 18 months ago it was the last straw. We never used him again. He brings breakfast burritos to the office once a month. We're replacing a roof on a 123K SF shopping center right now, lol.

To be fair I read this thing that the republican tax plan lowered our taxes but each year incrementally increase it so we pay more in 2027 than we did in 2016.

Now I'm not arguing because I live a life where the money I get back seems random to me, so I know like less than zilch about the difference a president has on my taxes, but maybe the political play here is:

They create these confusing yearly increasing tax laws and every 7 do a tax cut to become the hero again. The bonus this infinite loop has is, as long as we keep electing them we pay less taxes, but if we elect a Dem the taxes just keep going up until we snap, elect a republican, and then they repeat the process.

A city to the east is allowing parents to choose in class or remote. Our governor has issued a statement that if our state doesn't get numbers under control he'll issue a stay at home order that would force all schools to go remote. I'm personally happy Trump hasn't dictated what we do.

His point, and he can correct me if I'm wrong, is that building a political or social identity around fighting against something necessarily entails that you must continue to find that thing at all costs, no matter how much progress has occured in remedying it. Racism in america used to mean owning black african slaves. Now it means a white cop shooting a black person for literally any reason. I've posed this question before and still haven't gotten a straight answer from anybody; in what scenario do you personally feel a white cop is justified in shooting a black person? Please be as specific as possible.

To be more clear: We currently live in a political climate where a cop shooting a guy (if he happens to be black) who is chasing after him or her with a knife is considered a racist murderer, and people riot over it; causing far more damage than the actual incident. Such a reaction is patently absurd and insane. Cops do not have a responsibility to wait until they are stabbed in the head to deal with somebody who they have already warned fifty times to stop. Thinking this way is pure moral confusion, and is a perfect example of how this mission creep manifests itself. The cop HAS to be racist, cause... shit, we're running out of racists, and a white man killed a black man. So... pretty much the same as slavery no? Forget all the other details. That's the point.

I would like to explain it to you, but I'm a little afraid to.

The truth is, after I was forced into retirement at 28 by the loss of my hands, I prioritized making a marital bond with another frugal person and with a lot of schemeing and paperwork, my cash flow/bankroll/disposable income is WAY higher than when I worked. Working was incredibly expensive, at least for me. Eating out, killing the pain, commute expenses, paying for health care that was too expensive to even use. All that's gone and I can freelance and whatnot.

Now I'm spoiled. I think I'll be a millionaire. There are a lot of perverse incentives out there.

Overdoses of opiates don't make you panic and flop like a fish. The coroner's report did not report a blood level clearly indicative of lethal overdose. If he had any tolerance, it wouldn't have been. This is not to say it is impossible that the bag didn't break late into the fight and then he flash-OD'd, and that some of the drug was metabolized before the coroner drew blood (fentanyl has a short half-life). But I surely wouldn't speak in absolutes when I don't know for sure.

All I know is, he was freaking out and saying he had anxiety about going back to jail, and anxiety about going into the dark of the cop SUV. Clear indications of need for some sort of counseling aid. Things became physical (in the sense that he was writhing nonthreateningly) when they ran out of patience and tried to jam him in there. In the confusion, he died for whichever reason it was. If he hadn't been driven into an animal freakout, the OD you theorize would have been witnessed as such and very possibly his life saved with a narcan pen (all cops carry them now, at least around here).

The fact that you bring up nonsequiturs about his criminality and speak surety where it doesn't belong betrays your animus. Criminality, especially nonviolent, doesn't leave a person undeserving of decency from the system we embody.

How about this: Give the police *more* funding so that they can hire social workers. Social workers are already a thing, they are dispatched to situations that call for their expertise. What people have been proposing, which is completely idiotic, is that social workers be dispatched to situations where there is an imminent lethal threat. Cops already perform the role of social worker in many situations, for example when they talk jumpers off the ledges of buildings all the time.

Suggesting that a social worker should be called in when somebody like george floyd, who had an extensive violent criminal history (he robbed a pregnant woman at gunpoint, among other things) and had been in prison fourteen times, which the cops *are aware of* as soon as they ID him and look up his priors, is insane. Or somebody like jacob blake, or that dude waving a knife around, or literally any of the other people that have inspired rioting this year. This is what armed police are for.. It's super easy to criticize them after the fact when it wasn't you whose life was in danger.

1. youd be suprised to find out that defunding the police means refunding, but optics are hard because this is a day and age of all or nothing headline idiology.

Same with that dude who got shot after falling asleep in the wendy's drive thru. You only got to see the 7 seconds where they shot him. There were 20 minutes prior to that where they were super chill, just asking him what was up, and eventually determined he was too drunk to drive. They attempted to calmly place him in handcuffs and he freaked out and tried to steal their tazer and use it against them. Nobody gives a shit about these details, they just see the 7 second clip where he gets shot and respond emotionally. That guy, also, is responsible for his own death and his own actions. Not the cop. If they had just let him go, he easily could have ended up hurting innocent people who were not involved in the situation. Being a cop is probably really hard, I'd imagine, and the non stop dogpiling on them when they simply do their jobs is disturbing.

If a person starts fumbling in a cop's belt for their weapon, it's up to the cop's kindness and martial valor to whip them and let them live if they like. That's fine. But I watched the video and I watched the cops (and you) decide that "the last resort" is called for as soon as their patience is tested too far. Fact is, they could have sat there 30 more minutes. There was no "last resort" moment.

I see another man who was sitting there fine, until they walked him over somewhere else and then asked him to sit somewhere else and he panicked and freaked out and they panicked and freaked out and then someone died.

This is not the first time I have looked at a video with someone who is on the other side on this issue, and we both look at the SAME VIDEO and I see a bunch of fuckups on the police and a person who is easily dealt with but the police lose their cool. And the person next to me see's the exact opposite.

So, honestly I dont know what to say about this issue.

How about this: Give the police *more* funding so that they can hire social workers. Social workers are already a thing, they are dispatched to situations that call for their expertise. What people have been proposing, which is completely idiotic, is that social workers be dispatched to situations where there is an imminent lethal threat. Cops already perform the role of social worker in many situations, for example when they talk jumpers off the ledges of buildings all the time.

Suggesting that a social worker should be called in when somebody like george floyd, who had an extensive violent criminal history (he robbed a pregnant woman at gunpoint, among other things) and had been in prison fourteen times, which the cops *are aware of* as soon as they ID him and look up his priors, is insane. Or somebody like jacob blake, or that dude waving a knife around, or literally any of the other people that have inspired rioting this year. This is what armed police are for.. It's super easy to criticize them after the fact when it wasn't you whose life was in danger.

George Floyd's criminal history isn't relevant. From top to bottom it was a failure of training and procedure. Surely three people could subdue him in a way that protected his safety.

I have a good bit of sympathy for the two officers that were relatively green, who weren't training officers, and who didn't kneel on George Floyd's neck for the length of your average Led Zeppelin song.

The issue I find most troubling with a lot of these cases of "abuse" is that the egregious behavior often isn't breaking the law. The idea that fear is automatically a reason to use deadly force needs to be reconsidered. Risking your life to serve others is part of the job.

I think the one thing we might be able to agree on is that "defund the police" is a stupid slogan that means different things to different people and each interpretation is almost universally a bad idea.

I'm really disappointed that Trumpism wasn't impugned at the ballot box this last cycle, but I was glad to see that performative wokeness from the illiberal left was.

I've made this point a million times, but it bares repeating: Cops do not have a responsibility to wait until they themselves get shot, stabbed or killed before they deploy lethal force. People will often bend over backward to make excuses for the criminal offenders who die as a direct result of their own actions, but can't even give a cop the benefit of the doubt when they shoot somebody who is charging them with a knife, after they have repeatedly told them to put it down. Does this mean that cops never fuck up and kill somebody unjustly? Obviously no. Does it mean there aren't legitimate cases of psychos becoming cops on a power trip? Obviously no. But *all* of the recent police shootings that have resulted in rioting were completely, obviously justified shootings.

George floyd wasn't even a shooting, he almost certainly died as a result of a fentanyl overdose. He was saying that he couldn't breath way before the cops even put him on the ground, which by the way he *asked them to do*. He said "put me on the ground man", and they did. People can't get beyond the optics though. Dead guy is black, cop is white (even though often they aren't even white), so let's riot! Who cares that jacob blake showed up to his ex-girlfriend's house because SHE called the cops and he was violating a restraining order and ignoring every single chance they gave him to simply stop, and they tried tazing him and it didn't work, and then he opened his car door and reached in. What the hell would *you* do in that situation, if you were the cop? It's a valuable question to ask yourself.

Fact is, he had a knee on his neck long enough to kill him. So the cop did wrong. It's your bad luck if you drive your car thru a crowd in Charlottesville and a bowled-over whale gets a heart attack and dies; that makes you a terrorist. Get your knee off his neck if you don't want credit for the perhaps incidental death.

What blows my mind is when I look back at old pictures of mine now, I see a softness and kindness that I couldn't see before.
