HoN already failed and had to go free to play, along with it being full of massive amounts of bugs that we've been telling them since closed beta to fix. LoL is...well it's a retard's game. It's far too easy compared to the others, and while it may be fun, the transition from DotA/HoN>LoL as opposed to LoL>DotA/HoN is WAY different, and I've yet to play with a person who won't admit DotA/HoN are on a whole different level of difficulty.

HoN failed because it was poorly made and, as you said, was almost identical to DotA. Their programming allowed for a few things the Warcraft setup couldn't allow, but it was basically the same game with different names.

Blizzard DotA will do better because, well, it's Blizzard. They have actual marketing capability, superior real-time events (Blizzcon), etc. They've come a long way since The Lost Vikings.

I really love Tryndamere Jungle for ranked, hes situational, but can be beast against the right comp, I found tryndamere to be an absolute headache to play on dominion though.

I've been playing since the original champs were released, i think 14 champs right when the original open beta hit: rammus, fiddlesticks, teemo, twitch, annie, tryndamere, master yi, nunu, alistar, eve, soraka, viegar, and a few other champs. QSS is an incredible item if you are playing a hard carry like tryndamere where CC is your bane especially since the cleanse nerf back in like....early 2010?

When you reach a higher level of play your mind escapes 'the box'. 'The Box' is a state of mind a lot of LoL players suffer based on past experience, present expectations, and future expectations. These experiences are then further hardened into fact by high level players 'tier systems'.

The end result is, a player begins to see the game in 'black and white'. X is good therefore y is weaker. Let's look at the roles a mage can play:

1.) Support
2.) Direct Damage (Q, W, R, abilities all scale at near 1:1 ratios because all they are is damage attacks with no CC attached or lifesteal)
3.) Area of Effect Damage (Comet is one of the best scaling aoe nukes in the game)
4.) Crowd Control
5.) Area of Effect Crowd control (Easiest to land aoe stun in game with lowest risk to the mage for team fights)
6.) Assassin (ability to gank, viegars burst is ridiculous)

Viegar has no problem filling 4 of these roles.


Now the primary thing people like to achieve with a mage, is lots of burst and chaos, the ability to take out a damage dealing opponent as quickly and efficiently as possible with no recourse.

Of all mages, fewer require more magic resist than Viegar. Enemy mages have to build carefuly or risk the old Q-R combo.

A good Viegar will land Deathfire Grasp, Stun, Comet, Q, and R and then another Q. If the viegar has been properly farming middle lane for the first 15 or so minutes, he should have his sorceror boots and nearing completion of dathfire grasp. Idealy he has gained 50-75 AP from farming his Q.

Early game viegar will get no respect against a sustaining lane opponent. Spamming q on any sort of lifesteal/regen opponent middle will usually land viegar low on mana with a smaller creep farm.

Mid game Viegar will wreck most any character by level 11 with a proper DFG >E > W > Q > R combo. As the game approaches later in the game some mort noticable things become apparent. Viegar is able to drop the squishy carries without resorting to DFG and comet, can usually drop them with Q AND R.

Later game for team fights, there is few initiations better than Veigars stun gate. A player can be stunned from a safe distance at no risk to viegar. Viegar is also one of the scariest mages to play against when you are trying to defend a tower for a 'team push'. His only weakness lies against very fast chasers: warwick, akali, irelia, garen, and their ilk. No champion is unstoppable. However Viegars burst damage is arguably the highest in the game when properly farmed.

Why does Viegar get a bad rap?
Most people have difficulty dealing with viegars exceptionally weak movement speed, hitpoints, and lack of OOMPH early game and tend to get raped in the farming stage trying to harass or just plain suck.
The second challenge most players face is the split second reaction time required to successfully land a full combo on an opponent, internally knowing where to place the stun gate so the opponent doesnt avoid your comet is critical, and you cant afford to max out your stun gate with rank 1 comet and expect to net solo kills. You need to rank up comet and stun gate evenly to build the psychological fear in opponents that you can and will take them from 100% to 0% with a full combo of your abilties. If you cant Hit E > W > # for DFG > Q > R in proper sequence and place the stun gate appropriately, you will fail at viegar, plain and simple. You'll be a ho hum pub stomper at best that has no chance at playing viegar in ranked.

All that being said, Annie is considered a top tier mage yet head to head a viegar or annie bring the same power to the table if played right, and I can't tell you the number of games I've played with annie vs viegar duels, fights would go both ways based on who was quicker to the stun draw.


Now Diggles, if you can play viegar and carry your team with 15+ kills in 30minutes consistantly in normal matches then you can say viegar sucks or that other mages perform his role better, but you've no room to talk if you are basing your opinion on the assumption that other mages are better because you've seen Brand rape or have played annie and pubstomped.

Ehhh no. They're both AP, but their kits are pretty different. Veigar is not really AoE damage, for one.

My opinion on Veigar is that too much of his damage is either avoidable or counterable. His stun gate is a cool spell with a ton of range on it, but one tenacity item (or cleanse/qss/flash/whatever) throws a wrench into his E-W combo. I never see him in ranked but when I do play against him, I hardly ever get hit by his delayed AoE spell. It's his weakest ability that needs to either have the range kicked up a bit or the delay reduced, in my opinion. You have to rely on an Amumu or some other such champion to really land it against good players.

Banshees can also ruin his up-front single target burst. That isn't to say you aren't still doing to do a fuckton of damage with your ult/DFG even if the Q is blocked, but it does take the one-shot-kill away.

His cooldowns on everything except Q are kind of long, so he's not doing a whole lot in team fights after the initial burst.


Elementz has him in the bottom tier and I agree with that. But I also think players take way too much out of that, because there isn't that much difference between a Tier 1 and a Tier 5 champion. The balance is pretty tight, and I look at most of the lower champions as "situational". If the comp is right for it, Veigar can wreck people harder than some of the Tier 1 champions, especially late game.

Viegar doesn't run into a fight solo either, he's got a team working with him, banshees/QSS will often be popped pre hadoken. The one combo kill for a gank might get shut down late game by a BV but team fights he is brutal. I wouldn't pick viegar everytime, but if you are working well with even just one player that has a form of CC(taric, sion, hell annie for double mage, irelia, pantheon...etc) viegar is going to blow his proverbial load.

You ARE right in that it's just a few irritating things....problem is....they pop up in every single match. Graves Taric / Soraka lanes. Rammus on dominion. Teleport Revive Karthus etc.

There really needs to be 6 bans now that there are so many champs.

Haven't been able to get on to the forums due to some bullshit firewall upgrade at work. For some reason it no randomly allows me to come to this page when it feels like it. fucking annoying.

Anyway on topic:

New Masteries , 6 Bans, Fizz and a bunch of nerfs for Dom and Champs.

The new masteries are straight power creep. Everything is better. The offensive tree is mind boggling good. Life steal with your masteries is just WoW.
The defensive tree is really strong as well for basically any bruiser.
Utility has Spell Vamp ! but I don't like how a lot of the utility masteries I used to choose are at the bottom of the tree now. So it's ALL in for utility or just go 21/9/0 or 9/21/0 IMO

6 bans is huge in Dominion. I'm seeing awesome strategies and seeing alot of different bottom combination. I've been playing bottom a lot my self recently.
Loving Morgana. She will win against any AP or AD(up to late game where AD just owns her) I'm starting to see the Bottom Switch strategy in play alot more. AP starts bottom until late game then switches with a AD for maximum pressure. It works really well.

Fizz, seems a little weak, like a AP Xin Zhao. I can see the turret dodging ability getting out of hand in summoners rift. Akali nerfed YAY ! Jax nerfed YAY (from masteries if you're wondering)

Warmogs gone from Dominion. Well me and Doodle started this from day one. We played almost every champion with Warmogs and was at like a 85% win rate (Warmogs just doesnt work on champs like Leblanc/Ryze etc..). It was an OP strategy that needed to be removed. Straight Broken.

One of his dashes is an attack and the other is an escape/dodge. He sacrifices that a lot for attacking. No unit collision is fine, Nocturne has it too and he's not considered OP outside of the level 10-20 range.

I agree with this. He bypasses two fundamental mechanics in Summoners Rift. Being able to dodge Turret hits and no unit collision. one takes a summoner spell on a 2 minute + timer and the other doesn't exist in any form in the game. He gets both IN HIS KIT ?? Like I said, once some pro's get strong with him, he will be OP.

EDIT: Noc is OP, he's banned in almost every scrimmage and tourney. He bypass another pseudo mechanic in the game. He can gank without having to come close to the lane.

Well Vlad is a exceptional char that should have never been created in the first place. His passive is broken as shit. Having sustain and harass in one ability is so strong in this game, and even more so recently with all the sustain nerfs. His pool is amazing utility + damage. His E is AOE dmg that stacks. and an amazing team oriented ultimate. He literally has the best kit out of any AP mage in the game. Balancing him is probably impossible without scrapping his passive and his Q.

I've been playing him a lot lately. He's pretty weak in the lane early, but has p good harass. A lot of times late game I just initiate team fights with him and don't even care. I pop my E then run right into the middle of everyone, take a couple hits, zhonyas, flash out, requiem and win. Leads to pretty lopsided team fights I think unless they have an ungodly amount of CC and my team is bad.

Sion is good early game, but he's a terrible choice for late game. Once you've got AD carries with full build and AP AOE damage going off everywhere his shield goes before he can get in range to pop it. What makes Karthus such a great AP carry late game is even after he is bursted down, which will happen, he's still dishing out stupid damage with his E and Q. The only hard counters to Karthus late game are champions with knockback like Trist/Gragas/Vayne/Alistar and Sorakas Wish. The only AP mids that ever beat me as Karthus is Kassadin or LeBlanc. LB is shit late game and Karthus simply does more damage than Kassadin.

Also, lol at Annie. She's not even a viable AP carry in ranked anymore. Banshees Veil her Tibbers stun or QSS it and she's neutered because anyone with a brain isn't going to let her get in range for Incinerate.

Also, the slow from Karthus wall is just added bonus, the main reason to use it is the negative magic resist and armor.

For no reason should you ever start cloth 5 pots in the jungle anymore, it's pointless. I can do a full route on any jungler just fine with boots+3 pots/vamp scepter/long sword+1pot. Not only are your ganks stronger with boots+3 pots, your jungle route from 1~4ish is faster as well. Warwick is one champion that has never had to start cloth 5 pots, it's too much gold wasted on pots he doesn't need and his jungle is so slow it gimps him by not letting him get the faster wriggles.

Also, Frozen Heart for a 3rd item is terrible, and situational at best. After rushing Wriggles/Boots1 you should either get Heart of Gold or rush a Malady or Wit's End, I prefer the Wit's End for the extra MR. Rather than Frozen Heart try Randuins Omen, it gives you a reason to buy Heart of Gold that gets your GP10 rolling and it gives stats that are more useful to Warwick (HP and Armor instead of Mana and Armor.)

Tankwick full build: Merc Treads, Wriggles, Randuins, Spirit Visage, Frozen Mallet, Atmas.

For no reason should you ever start cloth 5 pots in the jungle anymore, it's pointless. I can do a full route on any jungler just fine with boots+3 pots/vamp scepter/long sword+1pot. Not only are your ganks stronger with boots+3 pots, your jungle route from 1~4ish is faster as well. Warwick is one champion that has never had to start cloth 5 pots, it's too much gold wasted on pots he doesn't need and his jungle is so slow it gimps him by not letting him get the faster wriggles.

Also, Frozen Heart for a 3rd item is terrible, and situational at best. After rushing Wriggles/Boots1 you should either get Heart of Gold or rush a Malady or Wit's End, I prefer the Wit's End for the extra MR. Rather than Frozen Heart try Randuins Omen, it gives you a reason to buy Heart of Gold that gets your GP10 rolling and it gives stats that are more useful to Warwick (HP and Armor instead of Mana and Armor.)

Tankwick full build: Merc Treads, Wriggles, Randuins, Spirit Visage, Frozen Mallet, Atmas.

DPSWick: Merc Treads, Madreds Bloodrazor, Wit's End, Malady, Sunfire Cape, Frozen Mallet.

I go Shaco, and do a LVL1 dragon.... proceed to successfully gank 2 lanes (including princes) I get the kills because the enemy gets away from Prince and I Deceive ahead and crit for the win...I proceed to rape lanes. full atmogs/trinity/bt build 40+ minz in and still can't carry him. I'll admit, it wasn't either of our faults we lost though... we had a 0/8 cait....
