Hi,

I thought we still have a play nice policy on here but today a guy named Rohk stole my orc 1 camp in east commonlands telling me "I was not at the camp" while I was just sitting a bit up the hill to avoid the roamers.

He didnt even do a camp check and since his char was too high I couldnt even get a single one and finally gave up.

GM´s werent available

Usually people here are very nice but this sucks.

Can any GM explain the policy to that guy please? would be great, thx.
Keep up the good work!

He might have a point if you were sitting too far away from the camp. Dealing with roamers might just have to be part of that camp. I feel ya though, even if the guy had a case technically, he could also have just chosen to not be a jerk and leave you alone.

That's the real test of who is and isn't a dickhead in EQ; when they *could* rule lawyer you out of a camp, but choose not to.

That's not how it works. If you keep a camp clear, it doesn't matter where you're sitting: it's your camp. You could be halfway across the zone, but as long as you make it back before the spawn (or technically even a "reasonable amount of time" after) that camp is "owned" by you.

However ... in an outdoor zone you can't claim "camps"; you can only claim "spawn points". Technically you did "own" one single spawn point ... but there was nothing in the rules preventing the other player from showing up and taking other spawns (common courtesy would, but that's not a rule).

https://wiki.project1999.com/Camp_Rules#General_Rules

P.S. Regardless of all of the above, we have an all volunteer support team here, so there will be times when there technically are no rules because there's no one to enforce them. All you can do in that case is use a program like OBS to record the bad behavior, and submit the video via forum petition.

This is not true. You need to be nearby a camp to claim it, as per: https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2651

I wouldn't use the wiki as a source of server rules.

I think you might be misinterpreting either what happened or the rule. It clearly states that you don't need to be near the camp as long as you are keeping it clear until it is contested. From the OP, it sounds like it wasn't being contested until the high level already decided the OP wasn't there.

As for the wiki... I'm pretty sure that page is just a collation of the various GM rulings that have come down and is billed as a "this is what you should expect if there is a dispute, but these aren't the rules as written".

you do not have to be near the camp. you are allowed to go sell and vendor. you cant leave the zone and have to keep the camp clear. also like previously mentioned in EC the person could of still claimed a single spawn not just take the entire camp. he would also have to give the OP the choice of which spawn he chose to keep.

The rules are different every time you talk to a gm.

There’s a reason they aren't written down and the only way to try to view them is some guys wiki entry

I this case its specifically mentioned in the PNP

"That being said, you can absolutely "camp" mobs, and you cannot steal another players 'camp'. In general, if the placeholder or placeholders for a spawn are being killed, that 'camp' can be considered held by the player doing the killing so long as they are keeping the placeholders (or the room if there are no placeholders) cleared, within the same zone, do not die or log off. You do not necessarily need to be at the spawn point to call it 'claimed' while it is uncontested, however, if someone else wishes to contest the 'camp' you do need to return to the 'camp' and maintain a presence at or very near the spawn(s) in order to hold it. You cannot hold multiple 'camps' if another group wishes to contest one that you are holding. The player holding multiple 'camps' retains the right to choose which 'camp' to give up."

this is straight from pnp forum post.

Now I did not say that. I have had a few instances where gms either dont respond or shrug it off. which is one of the reasons I dont really play anymore. once you watch the same people keep getting away with stuff over and over it gets annoying especially when you play by the rules.

Yeah that is pretty depraved.

Sorry Zaldaben you should play red but you can still get banned there for nonsense petitionquest reasons and just have to wonder WTF. I guess that is how alternate characters are born.

Especially considering the WC Orc camp was probably completely uncamped and has just as many spawns

Thank you for all the answers here even though it was just partially helpful because there are so many contradictory ideas around about the term "camp". Pointing out to the Guidebook I think explains it in the best way possible :

Quote:
"That being said, you can absolutely "camp" mobs, and you cannot steal another players 'camp'. So, it doesn´t even matter where you sit and btw. I was sitting right next to the camp just not in front and it is in no way neccesary to sit at a certain point to claim a camp.

Anyway, the anger about the situation eventually subsided. It is just sad how poorly some people handle such a situation and abuse their power (in this case a higher level character) to take what they want. I would, in any case, apologise and back off from such a situation but people are very different.

your frustrations are exactly why I decided to leave p99. you have a clear rule book but its only half assed enforced. after months of watching people act like assholes with no repercussions and un answered petitions I would rather pay a monthly subscription than deal with a fairly apparent buddy system that's taking place on what's become a personal sand box.

lets not forget, this discussion is what defines old eq.
Killsteals, camp fights, etc - all part of classic EQ.

there are no camps, you dont own the orcs and this guy proved it

It has already been mentioned but you may only own one spawn point in outdoor zones and they can't be pathers. This is currently the best solution which most people prefer. I know I like it when I walk up and claim one of the sisters at the sister camp only to be petitioned and have a gm show up and let the other guy who has been there for hours that I am in fact in the right.

These rules are going no where so I suggest you embrace them and claim mobs that make someone elses camp inefficient and try to force them to want to leave. If you and a few friends get together its easy to motivate people to just go somewhere else and you can get almost any camp you need outside of a few solo spawns.

The droga listing madness needs to stop.

Chief is a camp (the platform mobs) and BG is a camp (surrounding static spawns below)

You cannot force the Chief camper to concede BGs that spawn in THEIR camp just bc there used to be a community list. This no longer happens. Please ignore these loons when they show up after you have already established your camp and demand you give them the CoS that drops from your mobs.

They are stealing and are performing a con.

lots of camp stealing going down at lower lvl zones (crushbone)

sitting at Castle ent/wall/bridge (same camp)

people stealing mobs from that alcove under crush, from the pit area, and if there is a TR group, obviously from the hallway to TR.

that leaves you with barely anything. lol

Gustoo

Yeah hard to really have camps at low level zones its pretty much FFA if you see a mob that will give you EXP you kill it. High traffic zone, CB is.

if an orc is up anyone is free to kill it

consider red where you can do something about another group if they piss you off

Sadly camp/mob stealing will ALWAYS be a thing in EQ. On Blue I've seen a Shammy+Monk Duo login and steal Fungi Kings while our group is killing the guards for example.

Unsurprisingly these individual(s) have long since been banned for multiboxing.

Only if the camp you're talking about is an outdoor area. For example, the Nybright sisters in LFay or as OP posted, the orc camps in ECommons.

Outdoor zones do not have recognized "camps" in the traditional sense, and a player can only rightfully lay claim to single spawns.

Still though, 99% of players follow common decency and won't take your camp. But int he same vein we should recognize that there are very finite options to leveling.

Norrath is a big place and most of it goes uncamped at any given time. Stop crying and spread out.
