View Full Version : Which Race has the Highest BMI?

Keep in mind the BMI formula is Body Mass Index = Weight / Height-squared.

Ogres are nine feet tall, trolls eight, hum/barb/eru are six, half elf 5'6", wood/dark/high elves five, dwarf four, halfling and gnome three.

Please post your reasoning for your pick.

Many people criticize BMI for not taking into account people with very low body fat percentage vs. muscle as muscle is pretty heavy, so you can account for that in your estimations.

I’d say that if we are talking BMI, it has to be ogre with dwarves being a close second. They have a similar silhouette, but ogres look like they have a bigger gut and thicker arms. Trolls have a big gut and a booty, but they have skinnier arms and legs.

But it evens out when you factor in their foreheads...

i vote troll.

they seem way more fatty (as their rSTRNG is lower than ogres)

i assume ogres are mostly muscle.

i think BMI's account for muscle mass (when they pinch your skin with that machine/device when you get your BMI)

Yup ... as long as we're not talking about the travesty of a model that was the Luclin Troll ...

voted gnome because of their proportions and thehy probably have tiny little skeletons

halflings are actually pretty strong (muscle)

lets talk about it, were they extremely obese and just lost a lot of weight but never got any help with the miles of loose skin and such? whats going on here

I feel like/felt like a troll and if i went down to the weight i want, morbidly anorexic, i would look even more floppy

do u think the troll suit is some inherent designers bias against ppl with obesity/anorexia/body image issues? or did they just try to make a horrific terrfying fantasy trope (the swamp troll) into something palatable, but created the disaster which it was.

I’m pretty sure BMI is a measurement based only upon height and weight, and one of its biggest critiques is that it doesn’t account for muscle very well.

Yeah BMI is the height weight equation, those clamps are for measuring body fat. Doctors might utilize both together at times I suppose, but I have personally found trolls and ogres somewhat resistant to my attempts to measure their arm fat with my +2 intelligence calipers.

Since we don't have weight, I think it's fair to use strength and stamina for weight.

BMI = (Str + Sta)/Height

In order of highest bmi to lowest (using OP figures for height)

Halflings - 4.58
Dwarf - 4.17
Gnome - 4.17
Barbarian - 3.03
Ogre - 2.52
Wood Elf - 2.5
Troll - 2.47
Half Elf - 2.42
Dark Elf - 2.42
Human - 2.36
High Elf - 2.25
Erudite - 2.01

I feel like dwarfs are really dense so probably pip ogres, who have a lot of subcutaneous fat as well as musculoskeletal. Next up is barbarian for similar reason to dwarf followed by halfling for sheer plumpness. Troll comes next as I imagine they are kinda spongey and not quite as heavy as they look. Humans, erud, half elf, gnome, wood elf, dark elf, high elf.

Iksar not classic.

A higher BMI = more fat per what OP is saying. Yes it's bunk and doesn't measure fat that well in fit individuals it's plenty useful in measuring obesity when weight clearly exceeds a healthy muscle mass threshold.

It's gnomes.

Halfling and dwarfs are both very athletic.

Halflings athletic? I hate to say this, but I think you’ve bought a little too much into the halfling warrior cult idolisation of the forums!

Subtract level 1 hit points from 35 and then divide by hieght.

BMI is an antiquated way of measuring weight to height ratios. What we should be asking is what race has the highest BSA or body surface area.

BSA (m^2) = √ [height(cm) x weight(kg)] / 3600

trolls are as wide as ogres but shorter, also check out them man tits.

this works for trolls either way, measuring the folds between their man tits adds an extra dwarf of body surface.

It's definitely troll. Ogre have a lot more muscle in there.

magnetaress

I think I can agree that trolls would win based on surface area.

Still voting gnome tho. They are pudgy little shishkabobs wrapped around ity bity skeletons :D.

Trolls just have looooose skin. Like they lost a lot of it :D (if we are going by luclin models).

Classic trolls, probably scientifically highest BMI cuz of girth, it's not even loose its just big ol hips with lots of paddin.

It's definitely troll. Ogre have a lot more muscle in there.

There is zero muscle definition in ogres arms, shoulders, or chest. There might be muscle underneath but the top has a lot of fat.

Trolls on other hand are the only race in EQ you can actually see their ribs sticking through their flesh and they have clearly defined muscles in their arms/shoulders/chest. Though the males have a strange bloated abdomen, the females do not share that characteristic. That suggests some kind of feature of troll sexual dimorphism and not overall fat/muscle content. Unlike ogres who the females and males both look like stay puff marshmallow men with zero muscle definition anywhere to be seen.

I voted Ogre, but I disagree with the height assessments in the OP.

Comparing character models, Barbarians are a full head taller, probably more, than Humans. Barbarians are likely closer to 7ft tall.

Similarly, High Elves are noticeably taller than Half Elves who are noticeably taller than Wood Elves. High Elves are closer to Humans in height than they are to Wood Elves. If Humans are 6ft, then High Elves are probably close to that.

Sally is not a high elf, sally is taller than a wood elf, but shorter than a human, what race is Sally?

I don't understand all the walk about how ogres have a lot of muscle, so it can't be them. Muscle still plays a roll in BMI, and if two creatures are the same size but one is fat and one is muscle, the muscular one will be heavier and thus have higher BMI. Which is exactly why ogres win.

Stonewallx39
01-16-2021, 06:48 PM
Just to be clear BMI doesn’t take into account muscle mass, this is one of the primary criticism of the index as it can rate more muscular individuals as obese. That being said my understanding is even with the inherent flaws their is a strong correlation with lower BMI scores and longer lifespans. /shrug

Anyway ogres are fat as eff, and proud!

It doesn't take muscle mass into consideration any more/less than it takes fat into consideration. The only consideration is weight. And because muscle is more dense than fat, individuals with more muscle mass will weigh more, and thus have higher BMI, than individuals of the same size who carry less muscle and more fat.
