Question on "The Penance" Iksar Quest

Greetings! I made an Iksar SK and deleted my starter weapon as I didn't realize there was a quest to upgrade it. I followed the guide for The Penance on the p1999 wiki to get a new starter weapon. I farmed the 56 bone fragments using the hammer (big yawn), combined everything and made the Filled Penance Bag.

I then followed the SK specific part of the guide and turned in the Filled Penance Bag and the book to Squire Gristle who ate both items without giving me a new starter weapon or providing any text/followup. Is the quest bugged? Should I have ignored the SK specific section and turned the items into the SK GM instead?

Would appreciate any help, don't want to have to reroll just to be able to complete the weapon upgrade quests. Thanks!

Heyas, you don’t have to re roll at all. What you can do is make another level 1 iksar sk and then mq the 1st khukri to yourself when completing the 2nd turn in. Just make sure that you hand the GM the stuff from your second khukri quest after you turned in the khukri from the new iksar toon so that your preferred toon gets the result!
