View Full Version : Monk weapons

I'm having a difficult time figuring out what makes a good monk weapon.
The delay on a weapon is read like this: Del. 28 = 2.8 seconds, Del. 10 = 1 second, etc. Right? Delay for a secondary doesn't matter as it procs only off of your primary through your dual wield skill, correct?

Also, is moss covered twig currently the best primary for a monk?

Thanks in Advance

no, delay for 2nd hand DOES matters, and it swings independently from main hand

low delay is important for main hand (cause of dmg bonus), while good ratio is important for off hand

The delay on your main hand and off hand are in no way correlated or connected to each other.

At first, it's basically just the best ratio is the best weapon. So, the most damage with the least delay. Before level 20, the only exception to that rule would be if the weapons damage is so high it hits the damage cap that exists before level 20, but that isn't much of a concern for most monk weapons. It matters, for example, with warriors under level 20 using a Wurmslayer, since it has 25 damage and will have reduced damage due to the cap (I'm not sure what the exact cap is though, sorry)

At about level 30, there will start to be a damage bonus applied to the main hand weapon only. The damage bonus is a set amount of damage added to every swing (based on level only, not on STR or the weapon etc.), completely independent of the weapons marked damage number. This wont really be a factor in determining the best weapon in most situations until level 40 and beyond.

So in other words, generally speaking, all you need to look for is the most damage and the least delay. Once you get to the 40s and 50s and have a decent damage bonus, having a lower delay in main hand becomes important, so you apply that set damage bonus more often.

I disagree, if dual wield check is not based off of the primary hand swinging, then what is the dual wield skill checking?

Every time you try to attack with your offhand (once per delay), it checks your dual-wield skill. If you succeed, you attack; if you fail, you don't attack.

MCT is not good for monks. Get a Jade Mace / SoS combo, or better yet a 2hb.

The best primary for monks is T-staff. (or technically Ton Po's Bo Stick of Understanding, but there is only one on the server)

Runed Fighters Staff disagrees with you.

Every credible source I know of has stated that this item never existed on live.

Wehrmacht must be your source...

I had one, but I got it from the Shadowhaven Casino.

Anyway, at what point would I be better off using say a Jade Mace and Knuckle Dusters as opposed to my trusty Wu's Quivering Staff? As soon as I can get them? Or is there a level where the damage bonus on the Jade Mace and the rapidity with which it hits finally outweighs the damage done by the Wu's? RFS and T-Staff are way out of my price range at the moment, but I'd still like to upgrade from my Wu's eventually.

I had it slightly wrong - only a single stick was ever owned and it was given via a GM event.

There is no myth. It dropped off Trak one time on Test server and was changed to Trorsmang and moved to VP during Kunark beta. Jojo was given one during a GM event. It was the only one on live servers(if you want to include Stormhammer in that group) before the casino, as far as I know and I have been an active monk in the community since 1999.

So those uber guilds in other countries, as uber as they may be, never farmed Ton Po's staff off Trak. ;)

Would love to see a source that gives reliable evidence otherwise. But yeah, i'll admit I was slightly wrong. One person on live got one prior to the casinos (and when I said it didn't exist on live, I meant it didn't drop off Trak on live, because it did drop on test).
