Cool, do you have any specific rebuttal to anything he currently says? Or are you just posting a hitjob? Yes, he no longer believes some things that he used to believe. That is called growing, and being an adult.

Okay but what do you think about what he says?

It's bad! It's republican! It's right wing!

Okay but you still didn't actually say anything.

Neocon is a word largely invented by the American media (mostly in the Bush era). Neoliberal is a word that was used in political science and economics all over the world before it was picked up by some media members.

So a lot of neocons can be called neoliberals as well. It's part of the whole American mind fuck -- where liberal economics is called "conservative" here, liberal everywhere else in the world.

The market is not a conservative force. Its a radical transformative force that changes traditional structures frequently ("disruption" is the buzzword). If there is something you want to conserve in American society -- chances are the market isn't gonna help you in the long run.

Neocon seems to just be a euphemism for imperialist these days. It used to also suggest the Christian Right platform -- but they are losing sway and its really not a coherent package for the public. At least for my generation and later. There is actually a lot of evidence that the Christian Right did lasting harm to both Republicans and Christian popularity.

You guys ever notice how the same policy paths Trump took are the same Biden is taking on just about everything? The rhetoric is far different than any actions I've seen. But even then, Biden was the most Trump-like Democrat in the field as far as personality and tone goes.

I was reading this think tank write up on Chinese trade policy:
https://carnegieendowment.org/2021/09/16/u.s.-china-trade-war-has-become-cold-war-pub-85352

Basically Biden is doing the same god damn shit on China. Part of the shipping crisis is that China has severely cut its consumption of western goods. Which means we are sending empty vessels back to China to fill up with more goods -- rather than shipping both ways. This obviously is a big hit to profits for the shipping industry.

Is any of this going to result in our country being better situated in real or relative economic gain? That's honestly all I give a shit about in the end. Unless you can sell me on the idea we could take some small economic hit so that workers would get paid far more -- but I have never seen any argument suggesting any course like that. In fact, we tend to call that stagflation.

Almost instantly regretted my decision. I sent her out for xrays to a place that charges $25. And as I hand her the referral and she's walking out she goes, 'well if I end up going to an emergency room can they send you the xrays?'
The ER will probably just send me the report, not the actual imaging, but that would cost a ton of money so just go here where its only $25.

The Republican conception of "liberal" is really quite amazing. They are rich corrupt elites, that want to take all your money because they are poor blacks. They are socialists that run international corporations worth trillions -- and oppose $15 minimum wage. They are racists that want to scrub all bigotry from the internet.

Anyway you don't need to take people's money. Just don't let them get it in the first place.

They didn’t do anything illegal to earn it

And the people working for them aren’t slaves. Their wage is based on their negotiating power, which is based on their skillset. If their wage isn’t good, most likely it’s because they have no skillset to have any leverage in that negotiation

Why don't we just let people willing to do your job for less immigrate here on a work visa to save company money? Wouldn't that be a lot more fair and better for the economy?

I just hired someone at $24/hr. They have no special training or degrees other than high school diploma. I hired them because they have shown that they worked at one place for 5+ years which means they show up on time and have the minimum competency to complete the job. If you can show that you can do a job well for a long period of time, whatever it is, then you will not be making minimum wage.

Thats the thing about war. once you in it, you in it. Remember that whole, trade war with china thing? lol the prices have already gone up for 4 years +. No way they are coming down now.

Taiwan's fortifications are interesting to look into. It's a veritable island fortress, not using that term loosely either. For real, it makes Israel look like easy pickings.

That island has alot of things working in its favor in defense of a siege. From the geography, to the technology. Lots of rocky nasty shorelines, only a few places for amphibious landings, all the latest anti-air/ship weapons, and a fanatical population. (just naming a few)

China would have real problems trying to wage a conventional (non-nuclear) war on Taiwan, even before you consider the international support.

This is likely why china doesn't make a move, other than to rattle their sabers.

This recent aussie submarine deal is a boon to the defense of the whole region, and an unexpected middle finger to the chinese from the biden admin.

Here's a bit of rugged individualism at work:

Elon Musk vs. Charlie Ergen: Battle of the Billionaires Over Spectrum (https://www.wsj.com/articles/elon-musk-charlie-ergen-battle-of-billionaires-11633714306)

Both sides have claimed the other misrepresents the science behind their services. “There’s definitely a lot of hostility in a lot of the filings,” says Tim Farrar, president of TMF Associates, a telecom consulting firm based in Menlo Park, Calif. SpaceX has been especially aggressive defending its turf against would-be interlopers, Mr. Farrar says.

In a March filing with the FCC, SpaceX accused Dish of making “increasingly desperate claims to support its quest to add even more frequencies to its warehouse of unused spectrum,” adding that Mr. Ergen’s company would be better off building the network it promised “rather than spending its time trying to take service away from the customers of those actually delivering on promises.”

Dish told regulators that SpaceX was the one seeking to monopolize a resource that it doesn’t need. The 12-gigahertz band in question is a small part of the many wavelengths Mr. Musk’s satellites can use to beam data to customers, the company argued. “SpaceX continues a practice that has become familiar: do not cede any ground except inch by inch,” Dish wrote in a letter to the commission.

Jeffrey Blum, Dish’s public-policy chief, says SpaceX’s pushback against potential ground-based users of the spectrum in question is unnecessary in light of recent technological advances that would allow signals from satellites and cellular towers to share the same frequencies.

“We don’t want to fight with them,” he says. “We don’t need to fight.”

It's like a face off on who is more full of bullshit about future wonderful goods we'll get. The winner gets the government granted monopoly -- built by taxpayer investment.

Musk will win because capitalism is on his side. It wants that damn 5g for sale.

A surprisingly good write up for that site.

In short, all societies deal with all these problems. Crime, corruption, poverty and exploitation. And if you were to look at them as God -- like playing a game a civilization -- they would seem a lot more alike then most people seem to realize.

It's called comparative politics. You can look at countries that did different things and see which one worked better. On homelessness in the north euro countries...citizens get welfare and simply don't need to beg. You don't see raggedy Swedish people with signs. But immigrants don't get welfare. So you will see some east euros begging.

Just go ahead and suggest to a politically average Swedish citizen that they adopt the American system of cutting these people off in the hopes they go out and uplift themselves. And go over the results the approach has...low wages for laborers! Slightly lower taxes! Mentally ill people eating out of trash cans until they die young!

See what kind of reactions you get. Sweden used to be a lot like us until the post war years. They are one of the only major capitalist powers that went with socialism to influence their government. It turns out that system is better for most workers. Its not better to start a business in. It's not better for low taxes. It's not better at radical innovation. So there are some trade offs.

But here's the thing: we aren't suggesting going full Sweden. In fact, UBI is a better solution here than it would be in Sweden for example. We don't have any of the union infrastructure, socialist values among the public, the kinds of skilled labor and machinery they use for it.

So its not really viable to fully copy Sweden. All we can do is see where are current system is coming up short in certain areas and modify it to improve the situation. UBI is the cop out -- and my guess is that will be marketed as the grand solution for capitalism ills. But really all it is is a way to bring people a little above subsistence again without changing anything else. Meanwhile the job pool shrinks.

Poverty, mental illness, corruption, yes these all exist. You left off something. Substance abuse

It’s not what got all of them there but it’s what’s keeping a lot of them there. That is, if we are talking currently and not like for our country’s history. And giving them money isn’t going to fix that, might even make it worse. Just like all the money we’ve already thrown at homelessness without success

So while I find your concern completely genuine, I’m just not 100% on the method

I think he’s on the right track that one of the best ways to fight substance abuse is to “crowd it out”, and develop a schedule that prevents idle hands, which are the devil’s workshop for them

But the substance addicted ones won’t just start out functional for employment, you’d have to get them off their drug first. And if they continue to say no thanks I like the drug, then what? Is there a plan B?

If there was an easy solution to American homelessness we would have found it. I don’t think money is, but putting a recently-sober person on a tight schedule with a path to employment is a great start

But if your talking like, single payer healthcare and free/cheap college. You can see Russia and all kinds of other countries with a bunch of sectarian violence pull it off.

Russian healthcare sucks. But making it 100% private...basically zero evidence that would help. There's also not a lot of evidence that it sucks because it is single payer. It sucks because Russia is doing it.

And we suck when doing healthcare too. We have good 1st world healthcare here -- so that's not a problem. The problem is not everyone has access to it, and we are paying out the ass for it on a macro level.

“Healthcare is the tapeworm of the American economy,” Warren Buffett famously told CNBC in 2018, when presenting Haven. Indeed, the size of the market—fueled by costs exponentially higher than in any other country in the world—continues to expand relentlessly, and is projected to make up 20% of America’s GDP by 2028. But the results of this spending are paradoxical: Americans live shorter, less healthy lives than their peers in other countries, while suffering from an epidemic of bankruptcies related to medical issues (an estimated 66.5% of all bankruptcy filings are caused by medical expenses).

Well there's problems we can solve with government policy. And then their people slipping into a nihilistic spiritual crisis that we can't really pass a program and throw money at to fix. A lot of these sad fucks are already rich and in therapy.

The Christian right kind of took advantage of the spiritual rot in America. Getting people 100% committed to their narrow understanding of the bible and western values was a lot more of the goal than invading Iraq. But that's the problem with these political movements; they are easy to infiltrate with an actual political agenda.

Some on the left have been trying some kind of stupid version of this. They get all new agey and start talking like were on a Buddhist retreat -- so we can what? Repeal the Salt tax and then raise the corporate rate a little?

Luckily its not as powerful of an institution as the super churches down south and in the midwest were.

They govbois could leave Medicare intact. Start single payer. Just cut off ppl born after 81 from medicare. Subsidize the old carpet baggers and call it a day.

No one has any real savings in this country though and they shouldn't when a few rabies boosters where billed at $78,000. The VA didn't accept it. Tho. Technically the VA isn't billing me. So..

Like wtf ppl.

That would indict Medicare by comparison, old people cost a lot more than not-old people. Good idea!

24 hour news channels have to find a slant because they are on all day. Watch your local news, its pretty moderate and unbiased no matter what channel its on.

I know for a fact Tim Pool is. I dunno much about Russel. Neither have any real political experience but I bet Tim Pool knows a bit more about politics than Russel

Tim Pools is extreme Right

"In July 2019, Pool accepted an invitation to a White House event of Trump hosting internet personalities who President Trump claimed had been unfairly targeted for their conservative views. Disinformation researchers Erin Gallagher and Joan Donovan characterized the Tim Pool as being far-right spreaders of disinformation."

And Russel is often misguided.

Pool openly praised Adolf Hitler as "a certain World War Two-era hero."

He also claims that "If you believe in white privilege you are by definition a racist." Pool clarified that "Racism is defined as thinking one race is superior. Superior means higher in status or rank. White privilege assumes white people hold a higher status in the world." As should be obvious, "racism" is the belief that "X race innately holds, or should hold, a higher status in the world," rather than the recognition that whatever status they currently hold is due to social or economic conditions, which is what white privilege describes. To close his take, Pool stated that "Shoes tell you more about privilege than race does."

The president’s “American Families Plan,” which he will detail this week, will be offset in part by a tax enforcement effort that administration officials believe will raise $700 billion over a decade.

Reality: Biden plan would give IRS power to track bank accounts with $600 or more.

Also with regard to white privilege, he's saying that it's irrelevant because what actually matters is class. Who is more oppressed, the opioid-addicted white guy who just got laid off and has no prospects, or Michelle Obama? I think Michelle is doing a bit better.

There are all sorts of privilege, and the most important kind is status, not a particular skin color. The US is a majority-white country, yes, so you see lots of white people who have money. Guys at a shop messing around with the car on a dyno would rip that shit out pronto. Then again, with the ever-increasing electric vehicles there is no need for that. A bland future, kitchen appliances.

Ever think about how bizarrely coincidental it is that one network is far right while the rest are far left and none are moderate(or unbiased)?

Egq8M3c_9pQ

Tim Pool always claimed to be leftwing. Its hard to find someone remotely "leftwing" that agrees with him. That and he obviously has zero leftwing impulse and ideology if you are at all familiar with political subjects on a substantive level. So lots of right-leaning people like him I guess.

I tend to think hes a grifter. I was never able to find the funding for him -- or the reason he showed up on anyones youtube list. The dude is kind of boring -- its not really believable he got on the same list playlist with Rogean (celebrity before he started) and Rising (now breaking points, was propped up by "the Hill" corporate media). Who the hell as a boring nobody gets a fucking interview on Rogean with Jack Dorsy?

That is weird. What does he want to talk with Dorsey about? Well censoring conservatives of course. And unlike someone like Glen Greenwald*, he really does broach the subject with him Fox news style. Like there is two ideologies and one is being suppressed.

So he doesn't look good during the interview because he starts to get along with Dorsey. People are always surprised when famous powerful people turn out to be pretty apt socially.

Pool doesn't like it so he starts making evidence free claims about massive death threats repeatedly ignored by twitter. He can't give us the evidence because "then he would be gulty of doing the same thing he's complaining about."

We all know how conservatives are very sensitive to the charge of hypocrisy . But its mighty convenient that such an outrageous story cant be verified. If you wanted to get Dorsey -- ask him a lot more about why celebrities and other elites are constantly receiving special treatment -- and those that agitate these groups are often thoughtlessly enforced.

This is what happened to Facebook. Someone found out what a lot of us always knew -- Obviously there is a special line for the elites. They don't get stupid blunt instrument bans based on keywords and the algorithm. Its also obvious (not proven in facebook yet) that some of these crazy bans like the hunter biden story, they simply take direction from the mainstream media and ban people they dislike in order to avoid their ire. The MSM also used congress to bully these companies into actively suppressing rival news, while promoting CNN/ABC/MSNBC and making concessions to Fox.

* a very obvious pick if Rogean wanted a serious interview about this.

I’ll start by saying Tim Pool has some faults. However, in regards to being moderate, he is pro-police reform, which is a left wing position. He is anti-war which USED to be a left wing position. He is anti-capital punishment, a left wing position. He is very libertarian about drugs and other things, basically taking an approach of adults should be free to do what they want as long as it doesn’t intrude on my rights. That is not a right-wing position, the harder to the right you go, the less “adults should be free to do what they want” attitudes you are going to see, ESPECIALLY in regards to illegal drug use and sexuality. Far right positions go as far as saying all pornography on the internet and anything explicit on tv should be banned, all LGBT behaviors and unions are deviant behaviors, etc. So a libertarian position is a moderate position, definitely not a far right position

Tim Pool makes millions and millions of dollars, employs probably at least a dozen if not more people under him, and doesn’t even have a high school diploma. He dropped out of high school. A (rare) example of how to be successful without a lot of formal education

Now for the faults: he is one of the worst sensationalists on the internet. He catastrophizes everything and he’s getting worse as time goes on. He’s basically on an Alex Jones level now, constantly repeating that things like the collapse of America and civil war are imminent, etc. He rambles on and on in order for his videos to hit the 20 minute mark for the algorithm to put them in a different category, either for monetization or total-views purposes. He has a decent knowledge of politics, and while his movie analogies are cute and sometimes clever, he definitely makes too many movie or video game analogies to be taken too seriously as a political commentator

Overall, for someone without even a high school degree, even with his faults, he has a decent surface level understanding of more total things than the average person it seems

I subscribe to his channel but listen to it less and less as he becomes more of a sensationalist

This is probably the case

Having been a long term subscriber to his, his popularity on YouTube exploded when he started making videos not necessarily supporting any specific right wing positions (he was very careful about not doing this), but instead making vids like “can you believe what mainstream media/democrat politicians/big tech/etc are doing now?!!”

Once he realized that 80%+ of his new subscriber base was right wing, he started to adopt more right wing positions. So he to some degree is definitely guilty of grifting, but he still tries to cling to many moderate positions on some things

Progress is being made on Capitol Hill, with the Senate passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act on a bipartisan basis.

This much-needed infrastructure legislation will create millions of jobs, improve global competitiveness, and add trillions of dollars in economic growth through investment in roads, bridges, ports, airports, transit, rail, water and energy infrastructure, access to broadband, and more.

The House now needs to pass this bipartisan legislation so it can be signed into law without delay.

One conservative point made during the pandemic response that I thought was good was how the Covid bailout should be targeted to those that need it. Nevertheless, just like the Republicans -- I didn't propose some kind of means tested or alternative program.

There are couple of obvious reasons:

1) If you don't give everyone the benefit -- its easy to come up with a bulk of people that resent the money being spent. It was a bad idea to turn this into a giant debate about whether it was fair people making 60K a year didn't get the money but people paying 50k did. Or why unemployed people are making decent money while they didn't get shit.

2) It takes forever to hammer out -- and the results are often pretty sub par. It would definitely be an obama-style slow recovery again. The only way to get big legislation passed, is fast after a crisis these days.

3) We actually did need to stimulate the economy to make sure there wasn't a precepitous drop in demand. Its annoying you can never really falsify this scientifically. All I can say is there are millions of academic and policy types that have shown repeated example of austerity being bad for recovery. I mean worldwide not just the United States.

One of the thing the pandemic showed is that giving out money directly works as a good economic boost. Rather than distributing it through programs and bank loans. People are far less irresponsible with their money than I think used to be the case. They studied the people spending the money on shit like alcohol and new cars etc. It was pretty small.

In fact it was pretty good for debt collectors. This is why the largely vapid and gimmicky Andrew Yang got so much popularity. He did have one good point about spending money socially. Transfers are cheap and effective but programs are slow and inefficient.

Basically we should have a lot less programs based on means testing. So when Corporate Democrats (or most every Republican) come up with a rational sounding story about means testing being the answer... I've seen how that ends up.

The covid payouts weren't any different than any other social program really. They were valuable and necessary for some, and for others it just made them more dependent and less likely to take jobs.

Even now, there is a record high number of job openings, and a record low number of people willing to take them. Many are making more from covid unemployment than they'd make at an actual job, so it's not surprising. This sounds great and all until you notice that supply chains are currently failing. Many professionals in many industries are quitting outright over vaccine mandates. This is bad policy, and it's ultimately hurting everyone.

Can't wait to find out what taxing unrealized gains does to our economy. 🤘

Maybe you could start by not pumping trillions of dollars that regular taxpayers will have to make up for into the stock market and housing market.

Okay but hear me out. Pumping trillions into the investment market actually just makes these billionaires way more rich, while at the same time is adding inflation into a market that is already battling some serious inflationary pressure due lockdowns, which in turn affects low to middle income people the most because now they are spending more money on food or gas or rent instead of like retail consumption which will actually hurt our economy because like 70% of it is based on consumption.

Well it honestly wouldn't surprise me if the upper middle class gets a bit hammered. Because they always do on taxes -- that's why the majority of the white ones were republican forever.

Enter this new realignment that has been taking place. They were sick of paying for a government that rewards mostly the rich and and big corporations. They don't necessarily care about small business -- it depends on whether they own a small business.

Put another way: this economy is set up to give everything to those that own the means of production. The middle class is mostly identified by their choice of comfort and a balanced life, over relentless financial climbing. They can't preserve their class as it exists unless they create structures and identities that stand up against capitalism.

Democrats are gonna help them do this -- at least that's the idea. They want to preserve their ability to have low effort high pay employment, not need to save or invest that much, and to be confident their kids will do even better without having to be a climber.

So that's probably the reason some are putting up with more spending and taxes. From an abstract macro view. A lot of the democrat platform is tailored to them. The poors are pretty much cucked atm.

The worst thing for our economy a wealthy person can be doing with their money is putting it into some form of a savings account

Investing it in “Wall Street” is not a terrible thing on its own. Innovation requires investment. Innovation might be able to solve some very serious problems such as transportation, supply, even things like pollution. We need to keep funding the leading edge of technology not just for our gadgets but for our country’s problems

I don’t have a huge problem with the super wealthy risking their money in investments in Wall Street tbh

The one thing the wealthy are doing for us right now, is investing most their money. In this country we have extremely liquid markets. Investment quickly pours into any potentially good idea. Musk -- and ill do a write up why i hate his guts when I'm up for it -- does show how a electric car company goes from nothing to dominating all the old auto companies around the world incredibly fast. It can't happen without these kinds of markets.

You can do big things without markets. In fact most the really big stuff is done by governments. But for typical products and innovation -- you need the private sector strong.

The question is: how do we preserve all these market advantage as much as possible -- while dealing with the kinds of problems this sort of market creates?

I honestly think the answer lies in taxation of personal wealth in the end. The nose will eventually close around the high end tax dodgers. If nothing else because at some point even the rich lose common cause with the .05% or whatever.

I say that like it needs a few bandaids but it goes a lot deeper than that. Its a great thing when your CEO smoking a joint just lost you 10 grand in 2 days. Things day to day are very fickle and emotional like that. So that's why they tell you not to trade for the short term unless you have a very good idea what you're doing.

Capital in Europe is often "locked in" When capital is locked in and can't be removed from an investment until an agreed upon amount of time. This solves that fickle stock problem, but it makes it much harder for companies that show a lot of promise to raise millions and billions very quickly.

But then there is the problem of the middlemen constantly profiting from shuffling stocks around. Basically a parasite. The only good they do is provide some decent investor information for those that are more long term oriented. But if they didn't exist, I'm sure the work would still get done somehow.

Yea -- the government is the entity that often comes in take losses on investing in things that will likely not yield any real money in the near/medium term. But once tesla takes off -- they get a hell of a lot more from people investing in the company that it ever did from the government.

That unbridled capitalism gets channeled into that company allowing him to expand to ludicrous extent. And of course they were not paying the same tax rate everyone else does -- that's what happens when your a giant company in America.

You can argue this is all a bad thing though. I mean, how the fuck do we know if the money is being spent well for future profitability? That's not what drives the price of stocks. Not in America -- the underlying assists and balance sheet is like 1/28th of the price of the stock or less.

So now we have money pouring into Tesla -- then the price of the stock gets inflated -- people buy more the price goes up and the cycle continues...

How the hell are we supposed to get to the point where all this trading takes place in a free market without a whole lot of government propping it up?

Unless you define free market as what was going on before the Indians were conquered. Most people are talking a capitalist free market where you can trade unrestricted. The modern version -- anyone can trade at any time paying only tiny slivers of percentage point per trade.

Its inconceivable to have this level of efficiency and tech advancement without centuries of most high functioning governments building such an environment.

I thought my co-worker was joking when he mentioned that the US is floating the idea of minting a trillion dollar coin and how that’s legally possible due to there being no limit on the amount one can mint in a particular medium, I think in this case platinum coinage

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/trillion-dollar-coin-debt-ceiling-solution/

This would be to raise the debt ceiling with a ver low risk of inflation or something

Before he could even finish explaining it I asked “and what if someone steals it?” and he said basically the USA would be super fucked

Then we bounced around ideas as to what you could spend it on that would incur the least amount of loss, since literally no entity would be able to give you change

We found out you could buy 48 United States air craft carriers. You could have your own fleet. You could also buy the space station. You’d still incur some losses because neither of those add up to 999 billion, but they seem to be the least amount of losses

Then we speculated HTF would you transport that thing to the treasury or whatever? In one of those Dunbar armored cars, or helicopter? I said the more commotion the more attention it would bring, the better plan would be to have a fat mall cop walk it over with it in his pocket. No thief would ever suspect that’s where the trillion dollar coin is

JurisDictum

Can’t. Has to be a coin in this specific metal, since it’s exploiting a loophole that has no limit as to the amount of money the government can mint in that medium. Not sure if the article explained it, didn’t read the article. But that’s why it needs to be a platinum coin

Edit: here it is, from the article “ It's because a quirky law from more than 20 years ago seems to allow the administration to mint coins of any denomination without congressional approval as long as they're platinum”

I notice a pic of his cat and comment that I also have a cat. His response was “you have a cat too? Do you like cats? You fuck cats huh? Yeah you fuck cats”

And all I could think of at the time was the meme well that escalated quickly….

So instead of giving children inheritance you will give them debt. But they wont be upset with that, because debt is something that is good.

And to make all this possible the debtors that own the planet will just call the payments you make, taxes.

You guys missed the part where I said about 50 people died.

Killing 50 people is worse than vandalizing a wendys. I think you probably agree with that, I hope.

If all they did was vandalize a wendy's, I would agree. But that is not all they did. 50 people died.

Seems made up.

Nah it's not made up at all. About 50 people died. Also hundreds of others were seriously injured, and many innocent business owners were permanently shut down. People like to say "well, there's insurance!" as if insurance just magically covers everything. It does not always cover the monetary costs (ever heard of a deductible?) nor does it cover the emotional and sentimental costs. The blm rioters were making innocent people's lives worse while pretending to do a good thing. Accept it, cope.
