View Full Version : Broken Newbie Areas?

Did something in the last patch affect the newbie areas? It doesn't seem like there are enough mobs in Nektulos or Everfrost by a large degree. I have also seen people complaining about steamfont in ooc.
The first few days I played on here there were tons of mobs in Nektulos and now I have to run around for like 30 seconds to somewhere in the minutes to find one.
I did not play in Everfrost before the patch but having played barbs on live I remember there being almost too many mobs in everfrost with large numbers of them piling up as they endlessly circled through the maze. Now if I sit in one spot maybe one mob shuffles by per minute.
*shrug* just curious if this is intentional or not.
Thanks!

Noticed the same thing in Innothule Swamp last night. Just dealt with it, but it did seem very barren.

There were no patch notes mentioning spawn changes for any of those zones so I;'m guessing the mobs are getting stuck underneath the earth.
I would be curious to see if the mob numbers suddenly jump again next time the servers are brought down for a patch.

There is a large diff from the number of spawns between here and live in the newbie zones. With that said, we've not made any recent changes. I'll see what's up and maybe get a few more added in at some point in the near future.

New kid here.
Just started a new Troll Shammie (Grackal) and was checking out the swamp for the first time in...6 years?
I noticed a lack of mobs as well.
Wondered if I just remembered it differently.

Primary issue is, that as the game progressed, sony removed mobs from the newbie areas. Hence, the PoPish level of scarcity.

I assumed maybe the spawn numbers were smaller on here to not have there be an overwhelming number of mobs. The weird part was just that when I started my cleric a few days before the patch there were enough snakes and such in Nek that I was having to watch where I was fighting to avoid getting adds... Yet post patch I actually had to run around between mobs to find another one even with like only 2-3 people in the zone so I was curious hehe.

Anxiously awaiting hearing about the next patch when spawns are adjusted, and seeing petitions about guards getting mowed down by "thousands and thousands of Froglok Tads" in Innothule.

I definitely see (well, saw) this in Steamfont as a newb. There are huge areas of the zone with no mobs.

I must agree about Everfrost, I try hard to kill bears and spiders and I must look around for ages to find one lol

I also noticed a big difference in Nek - too many mobs to not enough after the patch. Also - where the heck did all the bixies go?!?! Haven't seen a single one in Nek, or Commons for that matter. Not that I mind no griff spawns in commons now ;)

one of the first things i noticed when i started playing was that in newbie areas, mobs spawn in more areas than they used to and path a bit differently. in EF for example, you'd never see polar bear cubs spawning and pathing out and about in the tundra, while large spiders were at the tunnel to halas. could very well be that newbie mobs are spawning further away and wandering off. this problem doesnt exist in WFP or NQ where the areas are very small, and doesnt seem to be happening in MT either.

I haven't seen a Fire Beetle in NEK in ages days. There was some definite change to the spawn rate of newbie mobs from what I can see.

Reminds me of when i was on live with my rogue. After the revamp of Ct they moved all the lvl 30ish mobs out front, so id gather them all up and head to oggok, bang an escape and watch the lizards raid oggok.

That's good and all. I find it funny and interesting. But I would [pay money] to see, literally, hundreds of Froglok Tads rampaging through Innothule. They're probably my favorite NPC in all of Everquest.

Wow, I created a dark elf alt and tried logging it on yesterday and... Nek is a ghost town.
There are more PC corpses than mobs by Neriak.

Yeah it seems to be that way everywhere I have seen excepting FP. Was thinking maybe it was just the smaller area but even Paineel's noob yard is p dead. I know this may seem like something insignificant but for anyone new joining, having to spend 5 minutes looking for a mob to kill might get a bit frustrating and discourage them from playing. *shrug*

Qeynos, Freeport. and Butcherblock seem like the best newbie yards ive experienced.

Innothule seemed better yesterday.
Lot's of lowbie mobs outside Grobb.

It seems like some other areas like WK are really low on mob spawns too. WK is a bit sparse as it is but I seem to remember there at least being a handful of beetles and lions and such running around. Earlier today I ran around on one of my alts for a good 30 minutes and saw maybe 2 lions 2 big beetles 2 little beetles and 1 spiderling...
