Is python popular? Why do people use it? I mainly work in javascript/node these days with web development.

Pyramid constructionists were fed quite well. I can see it happening.

Java and Python are popular because they are simple and don't require packaging or compiling and are already well known because they are deeply integrated with the web. Apache. Browsers. Basically usable out of the box. Without plugins. Or anything fancy on the back end.
