View Full Version : On Epics and Their Quests

Hello friends.

With the release of Epic quests on Green, we've received an influx of petitions about failed turn ins, perceived bugs, and general knee-jerk reactions about things not going perfectly. This post is to remind everyone of a few important things:

CSR does not disclose content information to players. While we will do our best to help, of course, your best resources are your fellow adventurers and wide variety of online resources.
We do not have the ability to immediately summon items that were lost due to a failed turn in. This must go through the item reimbursement process which, unfortunately, will take awhile. A lot of the time it can be quicker to simply redo the quest so make sure you research your Epic quest before turning things in!
If there's an issue stop, breathe, and think things through. This includes a perceived issue with a quest, an issue with another player, or something not happening the way you expected. We understand anxiety is high with the rush to complete Epics and the amount of work that goes into them. I've lost count of the number of "panic petitions" that were quickly followed up with, "Never mind."

If you need CSR assistance with this information in mind, do not hesitate to utilize the /petition command in-game or submit a forum petition under the Petition / Exploit section of the Project 1999 forums.

This was on live years ago but I remember handing in for my long awaited Spear of Fate, only to not see it on my cursor.

Yes, I panicked. All that work, the positive message was given and yet I couldn't see it. I petitioned because something must be very wrong.

Then I found it was in one of my bags.

I mean yeah this dude is way over immersed and acting like an ass, but there's no denying these are legit bugs by now and the restart feels overdue. I'd imagine the petition queue isn't helped much by the missing groundspawns issue as well.

this Ragefire situation is pretty embarrassing. The staff should be ashamed to roll out epics and skip spawning the Zordak for the first week, negating 3 potential cleric epics week 1. Right now there is a mandated 16 hour window on Zordak triggered 24 hours after nagafen is killed for the 20 or so clerics that lasted the whole time without taking a break to have a chance to win a /random 1000 that can only be rolled within 20 seconds of the mob spawning. What is the point of the 16 hour window? It would make sense if there was a race involved for the turn in. There is not. This mob should not have a huge variance. Please reduce variance to Noble Djorn like +/- 5 minutes or none. This would be in the best interest for everyone involved.

if you show up for the 16 hour window for 3 times a week: potential 48 hours of life wasted per week for 3x20 second windows to lose a /ran 1000. Imagine being one of the unlucky clerics who wasted 200 hours a month staring at a screen in hopes to win a random roll and just couldn't get it done. No other epic is set up for this much suffering.

Hello sir, I would like to introduce you to the enchanter epic:

2 day spawn that is a dice roll pet/autofire spam if contested
3 day spawn in fear that you have to rely on a bard to fte for you due to race rules
2-4 day spawn where you can sit on top of spawn - dice roll pet/autofire fte
2-7 day spawn where you can sit on top of spawn - dice roll pet/autofire fte
3 24 hour ground spawns that anyone can walk up to and spam click/pray

I promise others out there are suffering :D

https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61573&highlight=cleric+epic

As of this writing and over the course of the last two and half weeks, five clerics have spent far and above more time on the camp than anyone else. These clerics are, in no particular order: Kolevii (IB), Xeli (TMO), Nirron (IB), Elethia (TMO), Relapsee (IB).

The five clerics, above, currently with the most time invested will decide amongst themselves a list to camp Ragefire and turn in their pearls. Once these five clerics have turned in their pearls and received Ragefire’s Heart, a guild rotation system will be implemented.

Getsome, you were the guild leader of IB at this time?

so it seems like it is even worse than first we thought, if this goes like blue, then 1 epic per week is expected for a few weeks before 0-72 hour poop sock windows start.....that is madness.

this means until u win the roll, you are stuck in naggy's lair for indefinite 100% of the time in between naggy poopsocking for a chance to win that roll.

Yes.

Then you were disingenuous of your recollection of lines of clerics on blue when you got yours.

The thread I linked for you ended in an agreement with a 6 guild rotation for cleric epics during the first few months of epics for blue.
Rotation:
TMO
IB
VD
BDA
Divinity
Taken
(x) open for new guilds to enter rotation

I think what blue eventually worked out thru extensive frustrating encounters is the best solution. Its a rotation but keeps people sane without wasting hundreds of hours.
Unfortunately, its a rotation, and on green we have very bad responses to the R-word.

My recollection is accurate.

The initial rotation was made by the clerics waiting in the lair, not the guilds.

It's triggered off of Nagafen's death. Cleric epic is the most important epic in the game. There was ~3 years of Kunark with epics on blue server until Velious came out. Don't be upset that every cleric can't get their epic week 1. No one is forcing you to sock. The roll system is better than losing to people autofiring turnins.

No. During blue epic release a few clerics cried hard and submitted out of era respawn timers for zordak. The respawn timer being used is one that was implemented after the Feb 13, 2002 patch.

How does FTE work at Verina? If I get FTE as a solo enchanter and need some reinforcements, can I root her or kite her or whatever and wait for them to arrive? If so, how long do I have?

I'd like to hear from the GM/guide team if possible before I sink too much time in, as I don't think I can solo her without merchant charm, and it's bad enough socking this myself without having to ask 2-3 others to join in the pain.

Thanks in advance!

after FTE, u have 18 seconds worth of time to stall, before u have to forfeit the mob. at that point u have to die or zone.

Im wondering what happens on a server reset for ragefire. It didnt spawn the first week of epics because naggy didnt die after epics were released. So in the case of a server crash, will the triggered spawn still happen? or will it be more like sky where all overseers are removed and wont trigger nobles. It is a little different because the triggering mechanism is the overseer depopping for noble and the trigger for next ragefire might just be a fixed thing already happening no matter if the server resets or not. Clerics are fucked in both cases since you basically have to be there 24/7 ready to roll of course, but they are extremely fucked out of their time if it has zero chance to spawn before next naggy.

Isn't that just for raid mobs? Does that also imply that Verina and/or Vessel would be bag limited as well? Or I guess that might just be general FTE rules? Appreciate all the infos!

I'm guessing this doesn't actually apply. If "regular" (read: non-raid) mobs had an 18 second window after FTE to begin actually taking down, then Bards/Druids/Wizards would no longer be able to do their thing without interference and the resulting CSR headache.

Would be kind of shitty to run in circles with a 7 day mob for epic after FTE indefinitely while you wait on your friends to show up from whatever else they have FTE'd. VT and VD should be considered raid mobs.
If not raid mobs, then you should be able to claim it as a camp

zaiaku

You raise a fair point, and I agree that wouldn't be ideal. I'd argue that it should be treated somewhat like the Cleric/Ragefire situation, in which FTE (or in their case, roll) has X amount of time to rally a force, but perhaps more like 10 to 15 minutes instead of 30, given that it's more single group content versus 2-3 groups.

I'm cool with whatever is decided upon, but would just like to know so that I can proceed appropriately without any potential headaches for staff. My plan as it stands if I were to secure FTE as a solo Enchanter is to rapture/root and hope that I could gather some friends out within 5-10 minutes. I wouldn't dream of stalling it out for 30, even if I could, as that seems excessive to anyone else that might be waiting. And if I die, I die, and someone else can nab it. Would love to hear anyone else's thoughts. :)

That doesn’t make sense though. Because when people quad they are immediately taking down the mobs with AoE nukes after snaring them. They aren’t rooting or snaring them and then just holding them indefinitely until other people get there to help kill. It’s not analogous at all.

For instance, if a bard or quadder is kiting more mobs than they can hit at once in order to try and monopolize everything, you’re allowed to pull mobs out of their kite as long as you don’t take the pack below the number that the kiter can hit (IIRC)

I was specifically talking about the time spent gathering the quad/kite. In some instances, even a quad takes some running around to find the right mobs before you actually start going for the kills.

I mean for most kiting locations it doesn’t take an extended period of time. And in any case again you’re gathering mobs to kill them very quickly afterward. You’re not tagging a mob that you can’t solo to try to hold FTE for a long time until other people show up to help

What do you think would be a reasonable amount of time to hold Verina for? A few folks have mentioned holding her for a "long" time, and I'd like to see what that means to everyone.

Requiring your force to be readily available within 18 seconds on such a lengthy window is pretty much why they set up the system that they did at Ragefire, yeah? Obviously the Cleric epic is far more important in the grand scheme of things, so perhaps that's why it was done that way, but I think Verina could benefit from a similar arrangement, or at least some further clarity on what an acceptable engage looks like.

An hour.

I could totally make a nice sandwich and chat with my friends and watch the kiting tomfoolery for that long. After an hour I'm going to be getting pretty antsy tho, so I think that would be a fair hard stop for everyone involved.
