Is raid gear necessary to beat EQ?

What do you consider winning EQ?

P.S. I never had raid gear. Someone gave me magi rokyls thing once, and a rubi bp, and a tash stick the one that comes from dragons like gorenaire once, I lost all of them I don't even know where they are or what happened to them, given away.. deleted.. banned... does that count as raid loot? I never got them with DKP or at lvl 50+ tho. Always sub 30 just generous ppl are awesome.

I also seem to lose interest as soon as my character gets 'good'. Whats up with that, I guess this thread is really about me and not about the raiders, who I don't identify with/as.

The loot is just the carrot on stick to motivate people to go into the world, explore and enjoy the emergent game play that happens when a group or guild set out to achieve some goal. Success or failure doesn't really matter. Loot definitely doesn't matter.

This is an mmo, what makes it unique is the people and relationship you make. You've won if you can log on hangout and enjoy the game world with friends without concern for loot.

Or bronze armor, Opt1, that is like incidental, then u just run around having fun killing gnolls and maxing factions or w/e it is random stuff u like to do in game.

I got a rat necklace and killed a begger in the sewers while my friend gasped at me and refused to assist me :D Despite re-assuring him my faction with qeynos citizens would remain undamaged.

Planes were a huge missed opportunity that catered to the pixel sickness which had infected The Vision since not long after the very first zones were completed.

Qeynos = amazing in depth city, most other stuff = pixel pinata with no stories.

I don't see SoW katana and high elf mask as options. I obtained those fairly early, employed, and spent the rest of my alternative career killing the morale of my elf confederates by being a salty bitch all the time. Maybe having all my droppables stolen counts as winning.

My own version of "beating p99" was my bard epic and drums of the beast.

The bard epic is so awesome and great for bard as just a huge quality of life improvement. No more "You need an instrument to play this song" or not having to instrument swap if I was being lazy.

Drums of the beast I was given by someone who was quitting p99 and noticed that I helped out the guild without asking for much. I chased after those drums and tried to camp them for a long time and to be given them for essentially being helpful felt like a great honor.

I have no plans of returning to p99 in it's current state and wish you all well on your guild's day in elf court :D

I think hardcore raiders fall into three categories:

1. Nostalgia
Casuals, semi-retired, here for fun, do things they missed on Live, etc, they are better than you and they have the insouciance to prove it.

2. Ego
This is your group that cares about gear, yellow text, standing in EC tunnel in BIS, bring up Warder loot in every conversation, they are better than you and have the Sleepers Tomb loot to prove it

3. Competition
Racers, poop sockers, never loggers, seven BIS alts, access to 40 toons, unconquerable DKP hoarded. They are better than you, and they have 97% of content locked down to prove it.


I would have put myself into category 3. It was just fun to win, sweep quakes, etc. No amount of loot can scratch that itch.

I killed Trumpy this morning. Then I gave his resurrected self a bunch of honeymead so Kane Bayle wouldn't put a hit out on me. I wonder what dark power is bringing him back.

I remember how bad and how hard you worked for those drums lol. Not sure you were playing or heard about my epic Spirit Wracked Cord story but that was what both one of my defining achievements and also a journey that caused much aggravation that essentially resigned me from P99, I think it’s been two years now.

Gear makes it way more fun, especially on melee toons. My mnk and ranger do way more dps just cause avatar buff. And war it's even more fun with raid gear cause you can duo /trio things you normally couldn't w/o the raid gear. Some dmg shield potions and almost any epic fight is easy. Always winning eq /nod :p

The ravenscale on P99 doesn’t look right, just going to warn you now. The original ravenscale was almost jet black, any texture was hard to see. The stuff on P99 just looks like dark green banded armor. I don’t know why.

i'm so torn, i've been enjoying playing my ranger with my friend, but i want to reroll already and go for the rogue again, but on green instead of blue

what happened on blue was that i got totally twinked out with major end game kunark weapons and i kinda just lost interest for some stupid reason because i refused to group with people even tho i could probably pick right back up on that character. But maybe isnstead of 25 charisma, i would go 25 agi or 25 dex. or 25 str like i should have. Just to make things a little easier on myself.

BLUE feels REALLY weird because almost everyone has a fungi and epic, it just don't seem right, which makes me want to go back to green and hit lvl 22 in oasis, than move into upper guk with a crew and be shocked and amazed at the elf hide gloves down there.

My brain hurts trying to figure out what i want to do. and how i want to do it and where I want to do it.

On takp, I could box my own warrior and have zero friends and do everything. Here I could at least have a chance of overcoming my ONLINE social anxiety and making a real friend with a friend who's cool.

But my PROBLEM with this friend is that they are MARRIED and have CHILDREN??! Or something and they live in the wrong part of the world. Or something. I'm afraid they are either really attractive and stalking me and groomimg me for some kind of international kiddnapping quest or something just straight up wierd, or they are also total shuttins and not even really real at all like me but want to do something hanible lectorish. I can't imagine them being like this, they are probably just as scared of me as I am them, but thats my catastrophising.

P99 is the best server it has the best community, TAKP is inevitably a lonely adventure that requires some technical skill in playing multiple toons which is grindy and annoying as it's focus shifting.

I guess i'm going to reroll here. On green, the #1 premier EQ server where CT is really real still and I can got get my ravenscale armor even if I have to pay a druid to baby sit me with plat farmed from killing gargoyles or something for 5 weeks.

Beating the game, for me, is getting a character 50+ with epic and some form of respectable fashion-questing.

You win when you log in you have good friends/guildies online that are doing something cool you can go get in on.

You beat the game with pixels when you have all nodrop raid gear, epic, coldain shawl&ring and all tradeskills maxed-then realize you’re bored and retire. If you make an alt to do it all over again you haven't beat the game yet, but you’re probably still winning so I wouldn’t dwell on it too much.

I even worked out what mobs I could effectively melee with a caster based on their skills/per level compared to a melees, and the comparable power of mobs, and it worked out pretty exactly.
