When Black Lotus trained a Human Warrior / Necro from Castle so they could snipe frenzied ... I felt really bad.

That warrior worked a full time job, spent like 10 months leveling up the hardest class to play during classic... and just got super lucky and found Frenzied camp when it was open, but even luckier when the Frenzied spawned with an FBSS.

The Black Lotus swine who trained them and then stole the mob literally had gotten over 30 FBSSs since the server had launched, literally taking a shit on a true casual player trying to capture their nostalgia with a "Wow" moment.

IDK man. I really would break some teeth if I got the chance to, and I'd enjoy it. I'm the type of person to drag someone down to the basement, handcuff them to the beam and then beat them with a wooden spoon, repeatedly zap them with a sawed extension cord and suffocate them with a plastic bag over and over again for days before I dispose of the body. And I'm not even remotely kidding.

I dont think anyone on this subforum really has a job...??

The type of jobs I've worked have always been high paying, but also the type of jobs that are really hard to get people to do due to being dangerous, and often times involve working alone or with little outside assistance... kind of like the perfect environment for a psychopath to thrive because they are risk-takers with little regard for their own safety or the safety of others, and are less likely to get fired due to the fact that they are harder to replace than normal workers

You may be a racist piece of shit, but I agree with you here. The rat racing employed people are the worst. They'll cut you off even though there's not enough room for them to do it. Then, they sit at the same red light with you for 2 minutes. Fucking idiots. But, you know, they 'worked all day' so they don't have time for driving home like a sane person.

The people who had fancy jobs where they got paid too much to play EQ on company time were probably the best raiders. Good officer material. Clerks like myself were good because no life prospects but less mentally healthy due to socioeconomic stressors. Unemployed / disabled was a mixed bag. Either the sweetest or craziest. Anyone with real real life responsibilities who played hardcore was neglecting something hugely important and probably a dick on top of it.

Takes all kinds of blood to keep the machine going.

This is very true. I met one of my closest friends in WoW and we started a guild together that had decent success. Years later we were talking about what we do irl and I found out my friend was a software designer for high end clients and made stuff for the U.S army and MLB. Meanwhile I came from a full time 40 hour a week paycheck to paycheck background.

Its amazing that despite our vastly different backgrounds we were able to forge a friendship out of blowing people up in PvP and raiding.

That's probably my favorite dynamic you see in MMOs. People who would never interact due to RL class disparities rub elbows and get to know each other. There's definitely drug addicts and lawyers working together for different reasons than you'd usually see.

Ha! No one thinks of the third category.

The idle.

I can work but why? I have enough to live, to do my pursuits, everything is taken care of. I wake up, I go for a bike ride, I farm some cloak, then I take a nap. I go out for dinner, take my date to the hotel, before I fall asleep I check the raid schedule on discord for next day. I'm not rich, but I invested in some real estate, I got some stocks, bonds and bitcoins or whatever. Working on my pilots license.

I mean that's not me. I live in a slowly-flooding basement with one flickering fluorescent tube away from the end. I'm just saying it's not a dichotomy. There's a lot of idle people who aren't crazy and are perfectly employable.

The reason he's redefining it is because he is afraid of being considered a trash person in his eyes.

It's debatable really
My first job when I got out of the ARMY was at a factory called TRW. Paid $9.25 an hour. 40 hour week, my pay check was roughly $299 a week after taxes. No benefits. This wasn't considered freakishly bad for this area, in fact there were people who were jealous of my job and tried to get hired there.

Now flash forward to the future. I'm making 4-5 times that mining Ethereum, and even a 1% gain on the stock market is $1,200 for my portfolio, so yes, it feels really dumb for me to go work in factors for $9-10 an hour when I make significantly more than that just using my brain.

I genuinely miss climbing trees, and on a daily basis almost, I have someone ask me to come work for them, but the reality is... it doesn't pay enough compared to what I'm able to earn simply by trading stocks and/or mining.

I also am going to inherit 4 rental properties, and a farm that we lease out in the future, so I don't feel super panicked about my future. Most people around here see me as being kind of rich, and even resent the fact that they see me walking around the grocery store in a robe while they break their backs just to be broke all of the time.

Generally, going to work is much healthier than not, due to giving people a sense of purpose and the feeling they are benefitting the public or their community in some way. I speak in generalities because there are some jobs or fields where a person might feel they are actually doing harm to their customers such as swindling them out of their money. But generally jobs validate to a person that they are valued, both as a an asset to their company and providing a desired service to their community

The setup for disability in particular is terrible. It encourages people to up-play and exaggerate the things that limit them, which subconsciously can disempower the feeling of control they have in their own lives. And it doesn’t pay shit. I don’t think just paying more money is the solution, but it doesn’t pay enough to allow people to have a life. I talk to a ton of people on disability in my job and a lot of them have no money for hobbies or interests, they don’t even have enough to keep a vehicle maintained and so are trapped inside their shitty apartment 24/7.

I also think that being paid money for nothing, such as being born filthy rich or taking advantage of some social support program that a person deep down REALLY doesn’t need (only a small percent of people do this but it does happen), can distort someone’s personality in a negative way

I always recommend to people in my personal life that are weighing out working vs getting on disability to try to work unless it’s literally going to kill them

Evreyone on P99 is an independently wealthy professional who works only because they choose to better the world and not because they need money. Many young doctors, lawyers, and navy seals

Of course it’s about the money, but the spirit of capitalism is about an exchange of goods or services for currency. If the service you provide in your job had no value, people wouldn’t be willing to pay money for it. An employer wouldn’t be willing to waste the time and effort hiring and training the person for it

There is a strong correlation between retirement snd depression. A lot of retirees become depressed because they have lost not only a sense of purpose in their life and the structure that working gave them, but also their identity as well. The most common thing to follow a person’s name when they are introducing themselves is what they do for work. It becomes a part of our identity, even entry level jobs

And no, in these modern times you actually don’t need to work to survive. The government does not want to watch anyone starve to death on the street, so anyone with no income qualifies for food assistance programs, which is is enough free money to feed oneself for the rest of their life if they choose not to work. Shelter would be a big problem but there’s social programs for that too, even shelters you stay at for extended periods of time. Back in the day it was a matter of life and death, you either provided a service you could sell to the public or you starved to death, simple as that. Nowadays it’s better

Like I said, I’d the job didn’t have value the public wouldn’t pay for it and an employer wouldn’t want to waste the resources hiring and training for it. It doesn’t have to be a hot shot doctor or lawyer job to have value. People might forget that it has value but that doesn’t change the fact that it does

Well the poll question was "unemployed" not "not employed" so I was commenting on that. Unemployment occurs when a person who is actively searching for employment is unable to find work, that is the traditional meaning.

If you're living off investments or other passive income, you're not a worker but you're also not unemployed. Same if you're a minor and don't need to work because your custodians provide for you.

Yep. In game super nice here I'll even log out if someone doesn't want to share and go play alts. I fight ppl in pvp to try and give them a challenge or not be an easy kill. I don't play to win or dominate. Or troll in game.

I often just let ppl take items in grp rather than trying to sell them in EC. Or hoard them for an alt. But I think I'm going to maybe change this behavior unless it's a real friend who wants it.
