I am ashamed to admit I played a druid in 1999 / 2000 as a young kiddo and did not know druids could charm until I played on P99 nearly 15 years later.

Charm is totally broken on EMU like many other things without a client from 1999. Just admit it and move on.

I don't think charms a big issue to the devs their OK with it im sure as long as the values for the spell data is era correct, in example cast time, mana cost, MR adjust, tick duration.. etc.

Anyway. I think it should be more random. Less consistent. That with clothy ac/mitigation being less effective and channeling harder would be great!

I think the point people are making is there are plenty of actual and logical reasons for why people weren't charm soloing as rampantly (although people were doing it just not as much as they are today). Mainly due to simple knowledge/lack of awareness of it's power/lack of awareness of how Charm works (e.g. CHA, MR, and mob level difference all being the saving rolls (the last one being the huge difference maker as people used to want Enchs to charm the highest level pet possible and had no idea that level difference affected Charm break chance)), as well as technical limitations with both the Internet and peoples' computers, etc.

That doesn't mean there's anything broken with Charm on P99.

It's like saying that because people didn't farm X item nonstop on live, or because people didn't camp Y spot for exp all the time on live, that there must be something incorrect/non-classic about the item/camp on P99. It's a totally snonsensical and BS argument lol.

Pentium 2 300 or better (Even Pentium 3 was out by then)
3DFX Voodoo 2 (and some cheap 2d card) or a Geforce 256 later in 1999
7200 RPM Hard drive
256MB RAM
Cable/DSL internet (widely available at this point in urban/suburban areas)

The above would run EQ at 1024x768 at 60fps, no problem.

If you did not have this because you were too young and were using a hand-me down PC and were a kid at the time, that's understandable, but that's what gamer rigs looked like back then and gamers played EQ. Enough with the hardware nonsense, please. This game ran just fine on hardware at the time.

that was the exact rig i used for two games , everquest and The devil inside.i think the enxt upgrade was a Ati radeon 9700 wich i think did cost me around 340 euros, because i had troubles with raids and had alot of seizeups with luclin models on

Charm wasnt used alot because the skill cell wasnt as big as is today , but it was posible .Enchanter solo charm necro guard for profit was a daily forum rant on the old boards ,u could even perma fucking charm players on vanilla , one of the most not well tactics for monks on kunark was hire enchanters to charm the bugged tower guard wich could solo the brother for the rotlc.

The bottom line it was still safer to be a enchanter and be on a group than risk a potential CR and lose xp because no cleric or paladin on the zone and gettin a necro rez on kunark would mean u would gettin ur ass broke
