I'm an American who moved to the Netherlands a few years ago. Prior to moving I didn't really give a shit about soccer. But living here makes it's fun. Especially in an event like this Euro 2020 tournament. It's bigger than anything you get from US sports. Different countries with all sorts of nutty history competing, so there's all sorts of pride/anger involved. All my neighbors have their Dutch flags flying, people wearing orange everything. It's fun, especially as an American pseudo spectator.

It's not the most exciting sport. Hell I prefer American football. But it has its moments, and you work with what you got. Watching Ronaldo jump 8.5 feet in the air and score a header is a thing of beauty.

I think the diving is dumb as fuck too. With all the instant replay these days I think they should be penalizing the fuck out of it. But to get all worked up and saydumb shit like it's not a sport, it ruins everything, or they're not athletes is just silly. Like all sports, it has parts I like, and parts I don't like. A bit of suprice. Spain have a very strong team with lots of young talents and Sweden played for the first time without ZLATAN in a tournament (since 14 years???). So all odds spoke for Spain to win. Maybe Spain was to nervouse or Sweden just did a good job at defending. Maybe they got lucky, who knows. But both teams are still favorits in their group E even though Slovakia leading it right now.

Not a big suprice but Hungary was holding the 0:0 for over 80min before falling apart. I am sure the full stadium in Budapest played a big part of why Hungary was able to play so well in the 80min. (only vaccinated people were allowed into the stadium).

I am a bit supriced. I really though France would easy peasy shoot Germany to the moon. At the end an own goal by Mats Hummels gave France 3 points.
