View Full Version : What constitutes being considered "twinked" on blue?

I made about 20-25k plat soloing Paineel guards from 22-51 on my Dwarf Paladin, and dumped most of it into gearing a Human Ranger. Haven't been able to play it for the last year or so because my PC died, and I only recently replaced it, but now I feel like getting back onto my ranger and playing again.
Basically I have 2x Lamentations, a 24% haste belt and a lot of AC/HP boosters, some expensive ones like Silver Chitin Wristbands, but no regen items like fungi or anything like that. Except for the weapons, this is all stuff I can eventually transfer to a Bard, and later to other classes like a Warrior or SK.
Is this enough to be considered "twinked out." Or do you need super-rich items like Fungi to even qualify for that?

I'm sure there are folks who have spent significantly more than 25k on an alt but I can tell you that's about 24,900pp more than I started my ranger with and he was still a blast. Sounds like you're nicely twinked to me!

I solo'd in Paineel from 22-51 with less. Aside from the times when burnout sets in, leveling from 20-50 in this place means banking roughly 20k plat along the way, so each character I do it with will be funded enough by their 50's to afford most of whatever they need, be it armor gems, clickies, epic pieces, whatever.
Though Paineel seems a bit more crowded than usual these days, so maybe the secrets out regarding what a goldmine this place is for money, especially considering it's close to a major city, is a safe haven for evil characters and one can easily work up the rep to get inside and never have to worry about being KoS.

Obviously there are different ‘tiers’ of twinks and everyone will have their own opinion on what defines one. If your character has significantly better gear than what you’d normally be able to have access to at any given level, that would be considered twinked IMO.

25k is a low grade twink. 100k+ is typical if you go Fungi in your melee build. But you really don’t need much if your a competent player although the regen does help.

The regen IMO helps a lot more prior to you gaining your first set of healing spells (or song in Bard's case) and then gradually wanes as your HP and enemy damage scale higher and higher. I'd say by 20 or so, unless you're a pure melee class that relies on bandages or something, Fungi is only a small boon by then.

Paineel guards hasn't been a secret since probably 2010. If I remember correctly it used to be easier to get the key and the exp mod was higher in the early years(?). Back in 2010/2011 there was always at least one person solo'n there on either side of the first portal. It's just not one of the best options for speed leveling or making money. It works for the loners that don't mind leveling slowly and making a little cash along the way. Players can't really say they are there because they 'don't want to level too fast and want to experience classic Everquest' when they stay there for 30 levels haha.
I like making alts and just throwing trash gear on them. That's fun because you still have upgrades to look forward to. I've leveled multiple toons that way to 50+ and can't say I remember anyone even inspecting me or questioning my out of era gear. As it mostly was in classic, I consider pre-gearing a toon at all twinking if it's better than you would have by natural progression. I consider high end twinking super-twinking.

names that form phrases are against the rules and the spirit of the game
hopefully the GMs change your name to something more appropriate to the everquest universe, like 'Jakerbotik'

I wanted something other than just some generic fantasy name that looks randomized. I'm not roleplaying here.

I like Paineel because I can semi-afk while grinding here. I can kill whatever guards I'm camping, play another game for 20 minutes while I med and wait for respawns, rinse and repeat, selling and banking as needed. My PS4 is literally three feet from my laptop, so I can do some PvP in Dark Souls 3 while waiting out the timer and still being at my keyboard.

oh, i guess that means you dont have to follow the rules and can ruin immersion for other players.

you are roleplaying anyway, a contrived personality playing a video game is playing a role as well.

I take this back actually. I thought fungi tunic capped at 5HP/Tick. it's actually 15. That's pretty significant even into your 30s, especially on a character that often has to just sit and wait. That item alone is probably what makes soloing as a warrior even feasible (though I figure, since most Paineel respawns are 12-24 minutes, that's still doable for a solo Warrior that has to sit and wait anyway).
Don't use lamentations on a ranger, dual wielding is so awful until 50+.
Get silver swiftblade 1-20 and then woodsman's staff or some high ratio velious 2hander for 20-50

Everyone tells me that but I'm a Lammy fanboy, to an unrealistic degree. Lightning fast and with Str, Sta and HP. They look sweet too.
Lammies are my placeholder until Swiftwind and Earthcaller (and yes, I know Earthcaller is a pricy one, hence I'm hoping to raise enough plat by the time I hit...maybe 53, the first double hell level, to afford the MQ).
I two-hand on a Pally/SK, maybe a Monk too, but on a Ranger I want to dual-wield and swing like a monkey.

From 45 on the melee might take a backseat in favor of root rooting with my bow and infinite arrows via Tolan's Bracer, and DoT from Drones of Doom and Immolation.

This is a viable but painful way to kill stuff. With bow damage the way it is you'll find that it takes ridiculous numbers of arrows and bow shots to pull this off. Which means long periods of time just standing there plinking and then sitting there clicking your tolans bracer (not meditating) after its dead. Also you don't get immolate til 49 and drones of doom til 54. Also before ensnaring roots at 49, your root (grasping) lasts like 30 seconds.
Don't get me wrong, rangers are my favorite class to play. I found that in the 50's I'd use my dots and bow woven with med ticks to get things down to like 66-75%, however low they had to be before I could melee them down without needing to step away to heal. I just never found high level ranger soloing anything other than painful.

Definitely for the healing portion of the fight at least now that we learned about root and arrows being the work around for stun, or I did hehe.
Wish ranged attack was auto attack :(

It doesn't work like that. Stuff will heal itself if it can see you, not only if you're in melee range. Unless this was changed in the last couple months.

Considering how stupidly underconned giants tend to be (melee a blue conned frost giant while being overgeared and get my ass wiped, the f*** is this s***?), it might be my only way to kill frost giants, at least the ones that drop Velious armor pieces outside of Kael (if any outside Kael in EW even can).

I would say 25k isnt really considered a twink considering a fungi+cof combo in itself costs 100k minimum and thats the staple twink combo and its just 2 slots.
Most people in riot/vanquish are already plotting getting low hanging fruit raid drops on their sub level 10s
my 2nd enchanter had half his epic completed, swc, ring2, yelinak mask, pom robe ingrdients bagged and more before he was level 20

150k for most melees is solid
could spend a lot more too but onefitty gets you pretty beefy
id love to start a level 1 solo dungeon pally with a setup like this: Pallymon Jahbless (https://wiki.project1999.com/Magelo_Blue:Pallymon)
(that magelo is a WIP taking recommendations)

I’d recommend Matchless Dragonleg Breeches, and different earrings. And for ear Pearly Sarnak Bauble and Dragon’s Blood earring. If second item is to expensive then EoE always a good option. Barbed Dragonskull Pauldrons may be slightly better for shoulders. Djarns ring. For range could get Othmir Prexus Totem instead of Narandi Eye but that is a close call too. And possibly Lodi shield for Secondary for resists and str but OoIV prolly better.

Lammys and haste compared to uhhhh leveling a level 1 ranger on green is OP as shit. (Or just starting one in classic, Lamentation would probably friggin be best in slot in classic)
Lammys and haste compared to some people's melee twinks on blue... haha. Ramen had PD robe and a primal 2hander at level 1.
Also you'd be able to make a lot more plat if you were to level one of the 3 plat making holy trinity, which is shaman enchanter monk. Shaman being the most plat to get rolling.
