Are they campable by one person, or are they considered FTE?
I'm considering taking my 40 Ranger to level there since he has 200 tracking and can home in on them pretty easily, but if it doesn't pan out, Grobb would be my next option, and it's a crapshoot if I'm even able to kill any of the guards there yet.
I generally like Paineel for both leveling and money, but it's pretty slow with the long respawn timers and lately its been heavily contested, so I'm thinking a change of venue is in order.

I was always told FTE, unless you're camping a single spawn point.

If you're going around and slaughtering the mountain, just make sure to also take as many PH'ers down as you can. Don't be 'that' guy.
I think guards will net you better exp / profit though, but that's my worthless opinion.

I'm happy with camping single mobs on a 6 minute timer, so if the static giant spawns in EK or WK are not often camped, I'd probably be content to do those instead.

More generally you can find rulings for other camps besides just HGs at https://wiki.project1999.com/Camp_Rules

By any chance do you happen to know how often the EHG and WHG are camped in Western Karana? I might give one of those camps a try if they're not too hard to snag.

I wouldn't go by any written down rule here (especially made by a forum use) the gms kind of just rule however they want on a case by case basis in my experience.

Hill giants in rathe mountains were changed like a year ago with the last patch. They no longer spawn at the original 6 spawn points, 6mins 40 seconds after you killed one. Now they spawn in different places than before patch and you have to kill trash mobs to spawn them. It’s definitely not as good as it use to be but may be good for lower lvl chars as it’s not as viable a place for 60s to farm pp. For instance on my mage, I use to be able to hold down all 6 spawns and that was good pp. with the changes it’s not even worth the effort.

it seems like they're a better farm for classes with Tracking.
But I want to know how often the EHG and the WGH are camped in Western Karanas. I want to give those camps a try.

Okay, was that hill giant fight a fluke, or are they really that freaking tough? Up until now I've been fighting Paineel Guards, which are the same level range as hill giants, 33-37. I can take them on with pretty much no trouble now, lose maybe 30-40% health doing straight up melee with a damage shield and a weak dot.
I go toe to toe with a single hill giant in WK and it beats my ass purple. I engage it at full HP/Mana with all buffs up, hit after hit it's scoring 90 maxes, multiple swings, ripostes are hitting for the max, and before I've even worn it down into its 60s I have to make a run for it and get enough space to heal myself. It's constantly breaking root early, Stinging Swarm and 9 DS barely scrapes the surface of its HP, and I have to kite the damn thing across WK for fifteen minutes to finally med enough HP/Mana to bring it down the rest of the way, and nearly die doing that, almost running right into Maligar.
I'm sorry, but I'm level 40, they con blue to me, and I don't remember them being a severely underconned enemy from live, so was that a fluke, bad luck on my part, or are they really that ridiculously strong for their level?
If they're all like this, then there's no way I can reasonably camp them at 40. I'll have to try again when I hit 45 or so.

Yes, giants will be tougher. They have a higher max hit and a shit ton more AC than the guards. We can't see the raw stats but I'm sure the HG has significantly higher damage related stats than a skellie.

Well I'm not strong enough to fight one on my own then. I'll just have to try again at 45, possibly as late as 49 when I get new spells. I thought this was going to be a reasonable mob for Ranger leveling.
Back to Paineel I guess.

Yetis in DL are really good around 40

Yetis are a pretty good suggestion really. They are not nearly as tuff as a HG. Hill giants have always been a bit of an under con. They hit a little harder, more AC, and have a ton more HP than any mob in classic of equivalent level. How about specters in oasis and feerrott? They hit quite hard but have low HP and they run slower than most mobs. Otherwise maybe a various zone and fear kite animals?

Yea HG's are going to eat you for lunch. Prob 45 with a fungi. I could keep them down with crap gear at 45 with a deepwater helm with my paladin but that is a lot of healing.
I'd invest in fletching and a good bow. Maybe a spare index finger.

Based on OP's other posts they are looking for something that gives solo exp and cash, which is why they decided to return to Paineel for possibly less exp but steady vendor cash. Yeti's won't net much cash.

A ranger can burn up HK guards on 4th floor to 45. 5-10p a kill.
Even Oggok guards are much easier than HG's; I think the xp modifier is like 2x. You might have to bow-rot if things go sideways so bring a lot of arrows.

I already decided at 49-51 I'm going to try killing guards in Grobb, if it's true that each of them carries a Long Sword and a Round Shield.

Pretty much this. 1-2 mob camps with 5-10 kills an hour, and at least a consistent 5-10pp per kill.
My goal is to have 100k banked right around the time I hit 60, so I can afford Earthcaller. I'm at 15k so far and halfway into level 40.

:D It's actually even better: now sometimes they also drop Fine Steel (or drop it in place of the shield), and/or they drop gems. Great zone.

Often camped, or not too hard to get?

On Green it's somewhat popular, but certainly not perma-camped. Also there's room for two (< level 53 or so) people there at a time.
One last thing: if you haven't seen it yet ... https://wiki.project1999.com/Hunting_in_Grobb

I used that from 37 to 39 to grab my Call of Sky spell. I can only kill two geodes max before I'm forced to heal, med, and rebuff.
It crossed my mind to go back maybe at 45-46 or so, but they're camped so often.

This.. CC is one of the more underrated and under appreciated zones in game. The two named Geo’s drop gems. The spiders and terrors are also good exp.
