It's crazy that lower guk was the best dungeon in EQ because of performance issues.

Terrific find. Interesting how much those tech limitations back then forced them to get more creative and still it directly influenced their design choices.

The bit about female dark elves and Victoria's Secret cover though.

Watched the whole thing this evening whilst camping guardian shardwurms in Great Divide. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
Watched the whole thing. This guy basically built the spell system around the enchanter. No wonder why enchanter is so op.

Awesome interview. Too bad the guy didn't bring up the P99 charm controversy when the guy said he wanted enchanter to be a powerful character that does almost no damage.
Edit: Wow I should have listened to the whole thing. His follow up question is about charm!

Now how many P99 players would use their time machine to play an enchanter in actual 1999 and totally decimate the game with all the newtech hax we have today.
And totally forget about all the more profitable things you could do if you had 22 years of foreknowledge lol

If god and heaven and stuff is real I cant wait to see the looks on their faces when I ask them to setup a room for me to do exactly that.

EQ had such fantastic level design that made every area feel new and unique. Most games now reuse assets so much that it all looks the same. Granted eq does reuse some assets but it works due to the level design being top notch.
'Choose Your Own Adventure', that's such a wonderful way to view a multilayered dungeon.

(Next artstyle still makes me /shudder)
Edit: I edited the video out. The guy wasn't being sarcastic about Next. I am not putting that evil on you, Ricky Bobby

I remember seeing another, much older interview where one of the artists was talking about how they added things such as the hands coming out of the ground in the rathe mountains and how it ended up working out with the storyline.
I like this interview with Tony Garcia because it is similar . How he talks about the designs going up the ramp, along the cliffs to Highpass and how Scott Mcdaniel knew what they meant and how later, this was forgotten.
I dont like puzzles but i do like trying to piece together what is filler, what is part of the lore and what was from the subconscious mind.
