And yet, Tomekeeper Danl says "our library is the greatest collection of educational literature in the world, as you can no doubt see."
What is the mystery here ?
I think that the Erudites hold most of their knowledge inside of those giant melons of theirs.
What is interesting to me is how there are tons of bookshelves (many different types) placed all over Norrath. Heck. I even think that the dwarven pottery merchants and tailoring merchants in Kaladim are surrounded by them. :D

There is a simple explanation, my Antonican friend. The tomes placed within Erudin's library have been enchanted to only be detectable to those who have an intellect able to comprehend their contents. This was the simplest means to ensure the optimal lending of reading materials. No longer would the curious, yet dimwitted, Halfling visitor deprive our students of the arcane their requisite reading materials. Instead they would only find books suited to their nature, such as "Ice Cream is Good." Though, I will admit, it is very strange to admit to seeing the Erudin Library empty. I wonder what that would mean?

Yup, I can see the books just fine. Not because of my intellect, but because I went to Erudin and squeezed one of those big heads until the books came out all over the floor.

'I can sense the dark magic that rests within this candlestick. I will need you to concoct a divinatory aid for me before I can discern more. Take this suspension and brew it in a brew barrel with one white hellebore, a pouch of the red dust created by the Fire Peak goblin wizards, and the caustic substance used by the Dark Offerers in Mayong Mistmoore's wicked castle.'

You know what they say. You want to hide something from an erudite, you put it in a book.
Did you look in the buckets?

It's 2021, the books have all been digitized and placed in the cloud.

Nicely written.
It reminds me of the Emporer's New Clothes.

Although literate, Eruds have an oral tradition for knowledge.
This is why the library is able to sell so many scrolls despite apparently having no where to keep them.
The vendors are the books and they relay their knowledge to you rote.
