Just about every race in the game I find some charm in, some redeeming quality in them that I like. Had to think about it but of all the races I find ogres the least interesting. Their city is a pain to navigate, and their faction politics are annoying. Of the two evil brutish cities, I'll almost always go with Grobb over Oggok.

Voted half elf though it was a tough one. All races in EQ are pretty cool to me in their own way but some race/class combos are my least favorite like half elf druid or ranger because the low wisdom is such a bad stat.

I feel you. I almost voted troll but so many cool dudes like trolls and I feel like it's just a matter of time before I'm a ride or die troll guy too. Right now I'm in the ogre camp when it comes to evil fat bastards.

For sure. It's not that I dislike a race for being dumb, brutish and evil either. I genuinely like Trolls.

For me, it's just more of...it's kind of hard to explain. Ogres are evil without really feeling like they're part of the evil club. Many ogres are still KoS in parts of Neriak and Grobb. Lots of their quests involve screwing over their supposed "allies". The faction politics make no sense (the whole warrior vs SK guild thing) and worst off, one major part of their city is basically impossible grind faction with (Shamans of War) if you're not an ogre shaman already.

Ogres just feel bad to play to me.

I agree their city seems neglected. The troll town has more going on by far less seemingly useless open space (meant for kiting troll NPCs for easy exp?)

The fact that they are basically universally hated because they are big and ugly and dumb is what I like about them. They're like large size halflings with half the brain. Their lore is what I like. When I play an ogre I'm a good guy, despite being KOS everywhere. Their internal turmoil seems to explain how they haven't conquered the entire known norrath with their superior strength, they are busy killing eachother as a result of their cursed intellect.

Despite trolls having worse wisdom and intelligence than ogres it is clear that they have fully intact brains for living a cunning and cruel life and seeking those things, while ogres are genuinely brain damaged.

Boomba the big gives hope for all ogres to be accepted into society if you can prove you are not a physical menace to those around you.

Reasons I dislike wood elves:

The male armor model.
Snobby.
Tree city.
They have superior wisdom to all druid races, so they're like the druid version of the ogre.
They are hated in Neriak.
Pretty sure they can only worship Tunare.
They can't be clerics.
That stupid unicorn in lfay.
The tree city lifts.
They're always a bit creepy I feel like every wood elf I've ever grouped with except Cecily just sort of stares at me.
They get forage and hide as racials, which is unfair to iksar, and dark elves.
Their armor graphics.
Can't be paladins.
The velious helm.
They're bards.
They're weird.

I think wood elf armor is pretty sweet and regarding the sack we only see what we want to see. In live days woodelfs we’re way popular because they look cool and when u play elf sim an elf seems like a great choice.

Always easy targets in pvp poor chaps. All those alpha gnomes creeping out of steamfront to slay.

On rallos if u saw a low level ogre in kelethin it was a guaranteed PK lol

Dark elf is best choice for wizard and mage. Walk hacks are what put gnome into C for me instead of D or lower.

There are places where gnomes shortness makes it hard for them to jump

But there are places where gnomes shortness lets them enter where others cant

There are places where gnomes shortness makes them autoduck where normal height (elf and up) do not auto duck.

Then its wall vision vs hide ability.

Then the small bonus of being evil race vs non evil race.

Its a toss up and its why I haven't made an intelligence caster in a while, can't decide.

Roll a Dark Elf Enchanter. Have the hide, turn into a gnome when convenient, turn it off when inconvenient. Best of all worlds. :)

They have a wide range of deity selections for depth of roleplay potential, can start in any of the three main hubs for variation in early game experience and their low stats mean you have more opportunity to improve your character (it is pretty boring when your stats get capped too quickly). They're bad so it prewarns group members that you are a bad player that makes bad decisions, which manages expectations nicely.

Voted humans. I play one IRL, so typically won't roll one in an RPG. Like others have said, it's tough for me in EQ b/c I like something about all races in this game. That's not something I can say about a lot of other MMOs, despite variance in available PC races.

Worst race is barbarian hands down. Their city blows, their starting area blows and they are way away from anything. Barbarians should be evil but are somehow good. The best class combo for them is rogue for uber STR but it makes no sense flavor wise for a big ass dude to be deft of hands.

EQ rogues are often treated in-game as brigands and roughnecks. Barbarians fit with that interpretation of the class well enough. Regardless of how the official out-of-game game lore treats them, in-game I regard barbarians more as neutral than good. Rogues aren't saints, a lot of their warriors follow Rallos, and even the Tribunal is portrayed as motivated by vengeance as much as by justice.

Rogue is a pretty broad class. Certainly it can be the varmints you mention above, as well as traders or scouts.

I think the Tribunal Rogue can also cover the righteous assassin - once the Church of Justice makes a judgement on an individual they could petition assistance from one of the White Rose masters to deliver a Patsie's Magic Throwing Boulder from behind a Burly Gnoll.

Yeah rogues in everquest are not theives at all, they at best are street rats that pick pockets and break locks to steel food because they cannot excel at any other job in the game except relying on someone to invite them to hunt for treasure.

Definitely had more issues with players playing gnomes over the years. I don't know if its subtle roleplay or something.
