Wow Rogean, mine is almost a replica. I had to check my newegg history to see but I built it in 01/2009.

So, basically the same except no fancy antec case, only 6GB of ram and my CPU isn't overclocked. I did however throw in a solid-state hard drive a few months back to keep OS/applications on and I can't believe the performance increase.

Also using that sweet $20 windows 7 that you were offering awhile back.

Very close to Rogean's in age and specs:

Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz
CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2
Western Digital 640GB 7200RPM hard drive
Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3
GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-550-PCAR-E3 550W ATX12V V2.3
Antec 300
Win7 "32-bit"

Nothing OC'd or really juiced, but can still run WoW at 60 fps with midrange settings. Only complaint is that I didn't set up Windows for 64-bit so the wife constantly has RAM issues when running Photoshop.

Back in the day when I built for fun...

Dual 2Ghz Xeons on a Tyan Thunder board
4GB RAM
nVidia Quadro
Adaptec SCSI
Seagate Ultra3 SCSI
SoundBlaster Platinum on optical
Thermaltake case

Currently...

Dell Inspiron 530
Core2 Quad @ 2.5Ghz
6GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Realtek audio
Seagate SATA

Usually I buy one, build one, buy one, build one.

Oh, and currently Vista64 and hating it.

What is dual core

JayDee
06-11-2011, 12:17 AM
Oh yeah, that caveman technology

Fkn with you. The dual core i2720 sandy bridge actually outperforms the i2730 quad core in games and they're relatively the same price.

The reason why is obvious. Regardless, sandy bridge is irrelevant with Ivy just around the corner.

wasn't ivy bridge planned for '12? Bulldozer is pushed back another month or two...

Also, cores =! threads. Gaming performance relies heavily on how the game uses the cores and/or threads available to it.

I'm hearing Q3/Q4 for Ivy.

and Correct, that's why I said the reason the dually outperforms the quad is obvious.
