View Full Version : Classic EQ or Something Else?

So I've been told P99 Blue and Green were the original "Classic" experience of the game we all love, Everquest.
Is this true?
Lately a group of us came back to P99 Blue and realized a few things have changed...
Chardok revamp is out, okay...but a few things have changed that just don't make sense.
Many of the NPCS are now uncharmable for example, is this Classic?
25 mob limit on AE's? okay less of a headache for zone disruption.. Understandable...
no more Chardok AE groups which include the exploitation of RMT and the such.
Changes have happened and I'd like to hear from YOU what made classic, classic and is no longer "Classic" on P99.
Please Tell me YOUR opinion and anything else that isn't "Classic".
Thank you!

Classic to me:
Concentrations of players in newbie and mid-level zones
High level players rare
Magic and high quality weapons rare
Relying heavily on town vendors for equipment
Using the ships, not much porting
Low availability of maps
Lots of rumors about what various stats did, mostly guesses
Seeing an ogre or troll around a good city would really surprise people
Leveling was slower, experience penalties higher
People weren't wearing a bunch of wildly tinted stuff (you saw the odd rubicite rarely)
Trade skills were pretty mysterious
Less people relying on SoW and Clarity
Greater focus on exploring zones because there were few guides as to what was there
More people enjoying the experience vs. making it all about leveling, e.g. fishing for relaxation

The begging from noobs was rampant

The game isn't classic at this point. Classic is very few raiders at the high end content and each expansion lasting a short amount of time with no one getting a full BiS character.
The devs have made non-classic changes to address certain player grievances but refuse to address the 50+ game which is what almost everyone has the ability to play.
Since this isn't classic, and they are willing to make changes, they should address the raid scene because it is in no way a classic experience.

More of a population in the Karanas/Qeynos/Everfrost is classic, its a barren wasteland here.

classic is no one having any clue what they are doing and rerolling 500,000 times running out to the wierdest camps just to hang out in a zone less populated except a few neckbeards like 10 on the server with the patience and perseverance to kill dragons in fine steal and bronze
everything else is just poopsocking

Not in awhile. Not logged in a while I can't play enough. Get bored too fast with everyone else just farming for plat or w/e

Honestly the solution is for people to just stop caring about gear and levels and mob together to do stuff.
Most ppl don't know this. In real classic u could kill guildmasters and stuff. Ppl and Raiders trying to get raid gear bitched tho so npcs got 10k, 100k hp and stuff.
Ppl raiding dragons killed the game.
The dragons should have been worshipped.
Ppl should have faction with them and gone on pilgrimages to them in fine player crafted plate. Bringing gifts like muffins baked from rare gathered ingredients to the dragons as offerings with no expectations of rewards. Like clams gotten from fishing and oats gotten from trading halfling meat to the orcs.
But no.
Everquest had to be about spending months poopsocking a wall to get a robe from a dragon u needed a key to go to. Instead of just putting in more quests for oracle/smr quality robes or robes ppl could craft.
Yep.
Raiding is dumb.

Doing like kneel emotes and weddings infront of naggy and Vox and taking screenshots. Not hurting dragons and eachother for pixels and "stats" they don't even actually need.

Ya. I got lvl25.
Then I was like... killing spiders alone.
And like a million lvl 50s killed all the spiders.
I felt bad about killing the spiders they wanted. So I just chatted with them a bit and said hi an talked about random cool eq stuff like different fun zones we liked and logged. I couldn't bring myself to fight over the spiders.
I went to go lvl somewhere else. Logged out and never came back.

Mostly cuz I kinda felt like the only thing I could do was get more gear and levels and I realized thatd Mostly be what I was doing anyway and alone.
Then I realized how bad other ppl wanted that gear and levels so I decided to read a book instead or play a single player game so I wouldn't bother the ppl playing eq like its a job. Or their life.

We should start a true classic guild.
Vendor gear ONRY
Tradeskilling encouraged, this includes fishing
Weekly adventures with the guild (this is not raiding, just poking around a new dungeon/ zone with pals, not using maps, seeing what we can see)
Sweet guild meeting point. In real classic my guild met at the noob log in nektulos for meetings
No wiki allowed; no meta thinking, just play the game
Role playing mandatory
It will be a simple, honest, and very fulfilling life

In 1999 people weren't asking for classic. Isn't asking for classic... not classic?!?!

EQ needs a hardcore mode. And one like WoW’s which is: self-found self-crafted gear only no trades, no grouping allowed until max level and then only with other hardcore players. First death = delete char, but there is an appeal system, player managed
All of it could be tracked with a mod

Hardcore rules I forgot about that WoW has: you can form a hardcore team and group pre-max level, but the rule is if anyone on that team dies at any time, the entire team must delete
And for EQ would probably have to allow grouping from 50-60 because I’m discovering that is longer than 1-50

You are right, I’m dumb and slow when it comes to leveling and gear progression, which makes me a little bitch in regards to being willing to start over
I just wanted to mode to see clips of them dying on stream. It’s fucked up, but I can’t stop watching the WoW ones and I don’t even play. There’s some desk slamming, some (almost) tears, can’t hold a candle to the fortnite freakouts though

Fortnite is fucking evil (which is what makes it such a fun game).
Although it's bullshit that you can't opt-out of bot matches. Any battle royale is some mishmash of real players and bots, which they did on purpose so they could get 100-player games started more quickly, but I still hate that.

Oh I’ve never played, only watched some of the freakouts
My favorite is a (probably no viewers due to how poor his room looks) streamer named “Action Man” clubbing his desk in half with a bat after losing, and I notice the wall behind him is missing a huge chunk of drywall
It’s like yep you’re the action man all right
