I guess he shouldn’t have q’d out, but I don’t think this says anything bad about the community. Sounds like you were just being lazy.

lol what planet of mature adults are you from where you're safe to do that in real life?

First of all, always ask for a transfer. It's worth waiting. Nobody steals transfers.

Secondly, if you're going to do a drop-transfer, you have to do it in a dusty, obscure hidey-hole. Luckily, Norrath is full of such places. There are a dozen unused buildings in almost every city, plenty of empty patches in outdoor zones with a recognizable tree, etc.

Thirdly, you have to pre-park the recipient character at the site of the drop-transfer.

Everyone makes mistakes like this. Don't let it demoralize you. The best thing to do in such cases is learn at least something from it. All the best.

Literally just walk out to Ro from the tunnel and do it there. Or go do it in one of the plague houses in EC no one is ever in that area

I used to always use the little yard behind the bank in north freeport, nobody ever goes in there. But then I played a small race and discovered looking through walls.

@OP: Did you drop an inventory bag, which makes a giant satchel graphic on the ground?

gotta drop items individually so they make the tiny lil satchel graphic, just looks like druid droppings.

in EC, i always drop transfer across from T1 where the lighting dips hard, and where there is a brown spot in the ground texture

even better when there is someone standing there, so the little satchel graphic appears behind their legs.

Any weapons or anything that doesn't appear as a little bag gets drop transferred in a fire-pot near shady

Fungis, Hieros, CoFs, RBGs, Spells of all values, I've never lost an item in a decade on P99

Can't you report someone for stealing and get your stuff back?

It's not stealing - dropping something on the ground is considered throwing it away in the game.

When you drop an item on the floor or sell it to a vendor it doesn't belong to your character anymore.

I been stung by this myself.

it may not be stealing but it is absolutely poor form, and with the guy /Qing out right away he knew it was wrong.

Yes, an item dropped on the ground is considered abandoned and fair game.

I mean thats rules lawyer semantic stuff (even if the gms back it up) The guy obviously wasn’t discarding his item(s).

if it drops and rotts you can get it back. if its drops and someone picks it up. you're screwed. You need to find out who it is and hopefully shame him till you get it back. if its only 1.5k worth of goods.... dont sweat it

It’s nuts, ain’t it?

I guess the ruling somehow lowers CSR load. That seems to be a heavy weighting on many CSR policies and who can blame them?

100%!

Just explaining, not excusing, drop transfer ninjas. If you see someone drop something, give it back!!

Favorite "safe" drop transfer locations:

In West Freeport, in the corner by the woodelf vendor with the cart.

North Ro: Run out of tunnel, turn right, run up column next to entrance and drop bags up high.

EC tunnel: behind one of the carts in the room with Shady.

It's definitely scummy to /q out right after taking an obvious transfer. Sorry that it happened to you.

This is why I've always wished we had a shared bank slot, it may not be classic but plenty of other "fixes" on blue aren't either and this was just a major quality of life upgrade.

Might be poor form but it’s the rule and it’s the same ruling you would have had back in the day.

If you’re doing a drop transfer then do it in an area where no one is. If you’re too lazy to run your characters to said area (which is pretty lazy because there are a million of them within east walking distance of places like the FP bank and the EC tunnel) then it’s your fault if you lose your items by dropping them in an area with traffic.

Just ask any 60 in Riot, Vaquish or Kittens.. or a DaP porter. I’ve passed items over 100k and never had a problem.

Or any player at all. If they agree to your transfer and steal the item they get banned and you get it back

I’ve ran into a few drop transfers and picked up their stuff as a joke and ran away but gave their stuff back. Of course it was in a main hallway and on a majorly trafficked path both times lol

Still curious where this occurred so we can judge OP accordingly

Ya outside of an act of god like the server randomly crashing in that 10 second time window, drop transfers are perfectly safe if you are smart about it.

This is false, unless it changed in the last 6 years or so - about 6 to 7 years back I had transferred a Fungi tunic via a random 54 (guilded) ogre shadowknight at paineel/hole entrance (my alt was out there, as was my main).

The GMs informed me that they could ban him, but I would not be reimbursed, and if he was banned, I would lose any small chance I had of getting it back via negotiation with the player.

Unfortunately, I was a bit stupid and tried to coerce him to trade it back (including bringing my drama to the auction logger site), nearly resulting in a ban of my own for such actions.

However, the positivity on p99 I think outweighs the negativity/aforementioned outliers, and when all was said and done, an amazing person on the server actually gifted me a tunic, and the thief's guild disbanded them.

i've drop-transfered all my twink gear incl. fungi 34% belt and whatnot like 40 times and never had any issue, do it in a zone where there is no one when you /who and little chance for traffic... why the hell did you try to drop transfer in front of "mature adults"... this one's on you OP.

edit: also Arleigh in the tunnel. Arleigh is almost a NPC at this point, and they will transfer anything anytime free of charge and you barely have to talk!

One time Arleigh was swamped with people and I didn't get a "thanks boss" and was very sad.

What?! No “thanks boss”?!? That’s an implicit part of the deal when you make a trade with Arleigh, I’d demand a refund.
