Aww, I was hoping to see that engine in action
I remember there was a Darwin Award given to a guy who stole a jet engine and attached it to his car and took it out to the salt flats or somewhere like that to break the land speed record
It was said that after firing up the engine he at some point panicked and attempted to slow down so he hit the brakes which melted, and I think his wheels melted as well. Then his car went airborne for a few miles and slammed into the side of a cliff in a big explosion
Supposedly it was a true story, and that’s dying like a fuckin champ

Top fuel drag racers make 10K-plus H.P. from engines derived from the old mopar hemi....but only for a few seconds at a time. How long can this one sustain at or near its peak output before spontaneously disassembling itself?

Its 3/4 of an inch thick in most places, water jacketed, aluminum rodded. Aluminum rod makes a huge difference. Steel rods break, go through the block, they dont take stress well. Aluminum rods deform, smooch, bend, and dont destroy the engine.
Mostly just the strength of the components. Its LS architecture, meaning its the same overall guts but everything around the original plans have been beefed up. Sleeved billet blocks are the future.
Check out "the executioner" diesel engine by firepunk. They have like 100 passes on it already. Not blown it up once. 3000 horse or better

Danth is talking about top fuel drag cars, where 3000hp gets you into the ages 7-10 rug rat beginner class.
Here are some fun facts
Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 11.2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.
A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to merely drive the dragster's supercharger.
This one too You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter twin-turbo powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged & ready to launch down a quarter-mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line & pass the dragster at an honest 200 MPH. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment.
The dragster launches & starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums & within 3 seconds the dragster catches & passes you.
He beats you to the finish line, a quarter-mile away from where you just passed him. Think about it - from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 MPH & not only cau ght, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1000 foot long race

That consumption rate has to be wrong.

It’s accurate the fuel pump is insane and the fuel lines are enormous

Nope. The cylinder is literally so full of fuel when the spark plug ignite, its nearly hydrolocked. Theres like 1cc of space left, the rest is completely full of fuel. So imagine its lighting a mug of fuel every .25 seconds at full throttle, per cylinder.
Each cylinder is 1250 horse power. Think about that.

Even with all this my favorite engine is a nascar cup motor 800 plus horsepower all day long from a single carburetor.
Or the hayabusa based very small v8s
There’s different applications and different engines are awesome for different reasons.

I've been to a few drag races.
And mud races, and stock car races.
The boiled peanuts where nice.
The smell at drag races was weird, got used 2 it tho.
Tbh.. everyone should go to at least 1 once in their lifes.
Tho not a big fan I'm enjoying this thread.
