Has anyone else had folks in their guild effected by this?

My guild has had 2 people's accounts hacked, all gear stripped, one even had all his characters deleted. Information was confirmed private. GM's sadly said they could do nothing about it (which really stinks) and we've had to pull together twice now to get them back on track. Curious if any other guilds have suffered from random hacks.

That's a shame, I'm sorry to hear that's happening here.

Make sure the issue isn't a vulnerability on your end. What I mean is your website's forum, CMS or DKP system. If it keeps happening to just your guild, consider checking into that. There are known issues with older versions of EQDKP and all the major forums / CMS systems have public and private exploits.

Make sure your guild knows not to use the same login information on ANY website that they use for their account. Make a new login, password for just forums and non trustworthy sites.

this happened to me on live years ago - logged in one day, had been stripped of all armor, de mask destroyed, de-leveled about ten or so levels. the head gm on my server said he thought i'd been hacked "fairly" but refused to reinstate anything. i probably cried a little!

if they are refusing to help you here, id guess they think something's a bit fishy

I used to log on other peoples toons exploiting the EQEMU login, don't think I stripped them but did use them as grief/train bots for a good while

GMs said it was some "new policy" about returning items being the reason nothing was restored. Also, our forum is pretty secure unless someone is using the same login for that as their account info...

How much account sharing goes on in your guild? I know uthgaard said that they won't be helping people out who pass their accounts around "like trading cards"

Next to zero. The latest hack in particular hadn't shared his information at all. I'm beginning to suspect a vulnerability on EQEMU's end. It's a pretty big bummer for months of folks hard work to be gone by someone feeling like an uber dick one evening.

Random password generators are your friend. It make take more effort to remember a string of numbers, letters and symbols but it's worth it.

I'd say 99.9% of the "hacks" that happen on an EMU account is due to account sharing.

No hacker is going to go through the hurdles necessary to take advantage of your p1999 account information they gleam off of a key log. They have better things to do.

Just because your guildemate says he didn't share doesn't necessarily make that the case.

Regardless, if EMU did in fact have a vulnerability I would have to imagine there would be an epidemic of this problem going on.

*Shrug* Any griefer worth his salt wouldn't know to give it all up on the first date. If farming accounts is to become a sustainable business, you need to space them out...

With that said, I don't think the two were victims of the same person. The first "hack" we experienced had all of his characters and alts completely deleted, while the most recent just had all his valuables looted.

Why would they hack your guild and not TR or a guild with access to better loot / higher level characters if there was a vulnerability allowing them to hack any account?

Please don't jump the gun and blame the server. There are so many things that could have happened instead.

He just stripped all his valuables and gave it to an alt he plans to level because he hates being in a guild with you.

there was an issue a while back with some ewires crossing and logging into your own account would result in logging into someone else's character select. I once logged in to someone's level 23 SK or something. Another time someone popped in on one of IBs healthiest enchanters mid-raid and was like WHOA NELSON WHAT'S GOIN ON BREW?!


so this was fixed last I checked but could be something similar that's poppin up.

It was clearly a dick move because after he deleted the characters he took the trouble to create a level 1 female ogre named "Maxipad". This was months ago and never got a response from the GMs on that one, the thread is still alive in petitions.

This is a slippery slope into a lot of shittiness across the server unless something changes. Secure accounts getting hacked and no restoration being the new policy... Gonna go all Nostradamus and predict these are signs of the END TIMES BRAH.

My account was hacked today and I am a level 60 with a fungi staff. No one had my info but me.

wow. with so many ppl getting hacked maybe the GMs should look into it.. you know, figure out whos doing it, how it might happen.. they should be all over that shit

i know of the "random log in" bug, it's happened to me before multiple times.. but if toons are getting deleted then it seems like maybe it isnt just that bug. even still.. it probably is. just resurfacing somehow or occurring more rarely

also there might be accounts that are getting jacked where the owner doesn't even know, b/c he hasn't logged on in awhile

There is so much logging done on the server I'm sure they can find soandso traded X to douchemaster at TheHappeningOClock and then view the IP of the person logged in on soandso and figure from there that something might be fishy.

Not saying the devs WILL, but they could.

I realize its funny to some, but for those who this has happened to, it's not so funny. Although at the end of the day this is just a game, a lot of people pour days and weeks of their real time into it and it means something....
