View Full Version : Contradiction in Warrior guide about starting stats

Edit: It seems that now the debate is DEX vs. STA. I will always be duoing with a Shaman, or in a group including her... so, does it make a difference? Perhaps I should go 15dex/10sta? I'd like to be effective as possible at endgame, and don't mind a little inconvenience leveling along the way, since I'm duoing.
Original post, with question already answered:
"Here, it says STA isn't a good option for assigning starting stats: http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Warrior#Statistics
Here, it advises every race to max STA: http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Warrior#Suggested_Starting_Statistics"

...?
Still trying to decide if I should try 1999... so I just want to be sure I make the right call if I roll a warrior ;).
Edit: This seems to call for STR maximization too: http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Guide_for_Frustrated_Warriors#A_few_comments_on_ra ce_and_design
Sta/Str are capable of being maxed via gear (especially if you go Ogre/Troll). Agi/Dex are not.

If you don't expect to become a high-end raider, go ahead and put all your points in stamina. It won't get maxed unbuffed until Velious raid gear, especially if you're not an ogre. If you're absolutely sure you're gonna be a hardcore raider, dump all your points in dex.

and the points in dex are to increase weapon procs to increase aggro which is vital (this wasnt explained to him) and valuable even if you're not a raider

I'd say it depends on your race choice.
Ogre/Troll - definitely DEX with some added AGI to avoid penalty.
All other races - Either go all DEX (to be extremely DEXy) or go with Stamina if you want a more "balanced" Warrior.

The stat suggestions on most class pages on the wiki aren't very good. The issues are that everyone has differing opinions on the right way to do it.

And that information is pulled from Castersrealm from like 2000 and most of that was pulled from the strategy guide.

All warrior races get at least 75 base agility without needing to put points into it. It's the least useful of all the melee stats, giving 1 AC per four agi or thereabouts. Not worth spending points in. I think ogre shadowknights and dwarf (maybe erudite) paladins are the only melee classes that have to dump 5 into agi.

I want to play a Barbarian Warrior, so it sounds like DEX all the way... Is that the general consensus?
When I played, people vacillated between STR and STA, DEX was never really pushed hard. So I'm kind of taken aback... is there a post out there explaining what the real ups and downs of given starting stats are, aside from the bleh info on the wiki?

Try 1 ac per 4 agi OVER 100 agi...
If you are under 75 your ac is LACKING more than 6 ac....

Well, Barbarians get 87 AGI so I'm not too worried about that. By the way, I'll be playing duo with a Shaman friend, if that makes any difference. Basically, any time I'm online I'll be with her since... Bind Wounds gets old~
Mitic's post here implies that as barbarian you should go with DEX, to be above the threshold for procs (barbs start with only 70 dex): https://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9237&page=2

While sta is the normal choice to maximize effeciency of CH's as the tank, dex is unrated stats as a warrior in my opinion. Warriors in classic rely heavily on procs to generate aggro and dex is how you get more procs.

heals don't matter if the warrior doesn't have the aggro to take the hits. I say dump em all into dex. Procs early and often help out the duo/group/raid/whatever way more than the extra whatever hp you'd have from that extra stamina

I am totally shocked that pretty much everyone in this entire thread has gotten it dead right.

But how much of each? 15dex/10sta? It seems STA gear is harder to come by, which is why I don't say 20dex/5sta, but maybe I'm wrong.

Having 100 sta makes it so you don't attack slower or lose str when your stamina bar runs out. Course I'm not sure if Stamina even works in p99 yet, but if it does then you'd want 100min Sta to prevent yourself from running in to issues.
Edit: Yes, it's confusing talking about Sta the stat and Stamina the yellow bar which shows up under where your mana bar should be.

20dex/5sta sounds good. 70 is really low. You are going to want to bump that up as much as possible.

All dexterity, for any race. Warriors suck enough and kill groups as it is without procing enough. They are the 2nd weakest class behind Druid in my opinion for high-level experiencing and I nearly always groan out loud when some noob invites one to my group.
This is merely my extremely informed and experienced opinion.
