Starting a Ranger... I know..

I plan on making a Ranger because I want to melee and I would like to have a few spells to play around with. This is how I'm planning to equip him, what do you think? I'm not rich, but I have some plat to play around with.

Ears: - forest loops
Fingers: - Fire Emerald Platinum Rings
Neck: - Chrysoberyl Talisman??
Head - Executioners Hood or Crested Helm
Face - Sarnak Hide Mask or Platinum Ruby Veil
Chest - Brigandine Tunic or Mithril Breastplate
Arms - Mithril Vambraces
Back - Werewolf Skin Cloak
Waist - Thick Banded Belt
Shoulders - Crested Spaulders
Wrists - Hero Bracers, Runed Mith Bracers
Legs - Mithril Greaves or Sebilite Scale Legs
Hands - Iksar Scaled Gloves
Feet - Dwarven Work Boots
Primary - iksar berserker club??
Secondary - Sword of Skyfire/Green Jade Broadsword??
Range - Runed Oak Bow

I plan on spending about 5 to 7k for weapons, just dont know what yet. I would love to see some suggestions. All I have found are older posts with dated info.

Rangers are fine. Get a silver swiftblade, when you have dual wield and double attack get an icy blade and something else.

Theres a fuck ton of awesome ranger items. Seen someone selling that careless lightning ranger only dagger and also a 1 handed blunt with a 75 DD proc at 15. Both of them had a really shitty ratio (like 3 dmg 20 delay) but both had 75 DD procs at 15. Probably not the best DPS but fun.

In any case- Forest Loops (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=1926) for the ears. If you PL/xp in the giant fort, you're almost guaranteed to get a couple.

I think the Swiftblade is the best thing you can get for lvl 10-19 and it's decent enough for 1-9. I'd grab that and a pair of cheap 2handers for skilling - Sword of Skyfire, Iksar Berserker Club, and one of the RNG only piercers.

Then as soon as you can get to seb with out dieing. park the sumbich and be ready to loot the enevatable uzi drop. Be warned though , A windsaber goes through a lot of arrows Fast.

With all that gear you will be an exceptional tank until 20s, and competent until probably 40s.
You're buying into all the ranger hate too much I think... Again, with all that gear you can just grab any healer and you have a workable group (at early levels). Then start inviting...

There is only one weapon a ranger should be using in primary, and that is a Wurmslayer. And guess what? You ARE the tank. There is a lack of tanks on this server and a ranger is a fine one right up to level 60.

My recommendations for a twinked/versatile Ranger (not a strength-maximized ranger, i.e. one that can tank if no one else is available and solo up to his late 40s):


Ears: - Diamondine Earrings early, Sarnak Earring of Station/Grachnist's earring once you can obtain them
Fingers: - Fire Emerald Platinum Rings or Gem-Encrusted Ring/those 10ac jacinth rings, situationally
Neck: - Seb Scale Collar
Head - Tolan's
Face - Sarnak Hide Mask
Chest - Tree Weave
Arms - Tolan's
Back - Cloak of Shadows or Hooded Black Cloak
Waist - Thick Banded Belt
Shoulders - Tattered Mantle
Wrists - Hero Bracer, Tolan Bracer
Legs - Sebilite Scale Legs
Hands - Tolan's
Feet - Tolan's Boots
Primary - Sword of skyfire/Spined Dragon Claws early, Wurmslayer after 20
Secondary - Green Jade Broadsword/Jade Mace/Lupine Dagger/Fayguard Parrying Dagger/Fayguard bladecatcher
Range - Runed Oak Bow

Optional Twohanders: Woodsman's Staff, Silver Swiftblade, Swarmcaller
