a question for all paladins who got their epic - is it worth it? aren't there better weapons for a paladin to use that are reasonably obtainable? even the narandi lance seems like a better weapon.

just wanted some thoughts on this before i try my hand at the epic quest. i have even less time than i did before to go raiding and get up at weird hours, so if it's not going to really affect my soloing ability (i mostly solo on the paladin), i'd rather not waste my time. thanks

Can you get an st key or tov weapons? If so no, hope that helps.

Fiery Defender will not make you able to solo anything you can't solo with some other weapon of similar quality, including Narandi's. The largest reason many paladins obtain their epic is because it's relatively easy (assuming some modest-price MQ's) and most folks like the look. It isn't bad, but it's one of the more replacable epic weapons. Call it optional.

I was gonna say it isn't worth rolling paladin, but then I remembered that Divine Strength has more hp than Strength of Nature, so yeah please do your paladin epic so it is easier to visually ascertain from whom to request DS.

wow Jimjam! that was a slap on my paladin's face! we solo way better than any other melee class imo, especially after 46 with the deepwater helm. we're definitely the most self-sufficient, and can solo in dungeons just fine. that's nothing to sneeze at!

Seems the verdict is no, it isn't really much of a weapon to strive for. thanks for the replies! guess i'll get it whenever, for the looks

It’s totally optional. You can justify anything in this game. Like playing a paladin over a warrior :)

Cool factor : Having the epic for this alone is great. The quest is pretty fun too.

2h bash: Since no big races can be paladins this is your only way to have 2h bash. In PoH and some places like Seb gaters are an issue. It’s the quickest swap out you can do and coupled with a lvl 30 stun gives a high chance of shutting down blue cons.

Stats: it has pretty great stats for its level of difficulty to get

-100 check stun: like with the 2h bash, the proc will almost always land and can stun gaters and CH blue cons. I use it a lot in PoH when that’s my main goal. Even over a rocksmasher or Frostwrath & shield.

Narandi's Lance is only better from the DMG/Delay Ratio. Albeit only slightly better ratio. The stats, HP, AC, Resists, plus a -100 MR stun proc make the Paladin Epic better IMO. Paladins aren't really known for their DPS. Anything that might make you a better tank is going to a better weapon IMO. Also, 35/40 is not too bad.

IMO the epic is definitely worth getting. It's fairly easy to get, it's one of the coolest looking weapons in the game, the stats/proc/bash on it are all very useful. The only thing it lacks is the high end DPS that a tov weapon does, but a lot of times the stats and bash will come in more handy than extra damage in group content.

yeah but all you need to do for a tov weapon is log in before dkp logs are taken

The only reason to play a paladin is fashionquest, and the epic is the best looking weapon in the game. So yes.

It doesn’t suck. With the new damage bonus it’s only 3% worse ratio than a Frostwrath (I never use mine). It’s 7% worse than the narandi lance, assuming you don’t get many procs.

1h sucks in general and so does narandi. Any tov or st 2h will be better, If no access then sure get epic.

If you don’t have ntov stuff the narandi isn’t bad. Fighting melee mobs you do a lot of root/helm or bp clicking. The dot keeps rolling and adds up. For casters if you are progression limited the epic is really nice for casters; the main reason I mentioned the Frostwrath as a 1h/shield is a normal caster npc tank setup.

I always thought stuff like the MBS was overrated for the price but now with 2h damage bonus changes 1h is definitely lagging behind. It does make me cringe though seeing people use the FD on raid targets. A classic example why a narandi is superior…more dps and no chance of getting two-rounded into the dirt.

Having soloed a paladin to 56 and a Shadow Knight to 60. I disagree.

It's slower butt the power rating is much higher than an Sk.

It’s a catch 22.

Fear kiting while annoying is more efficient when npcs are hitting harder. You need more room to make it work so you can’t always do this (usually but not always).

Root click healing is more efficient way to trade blows. You don’t need much space but wearing down like a geo this way is a painful concept.

Either class can solo easily to 60. Just a matter of what you like. Reverse kiting or not. Facetanking as a sk even while using a pet relies on a pretty inefficient method of hp recovery. Even the paladin heal over time is a mana sink compared to burning two jaspers. I would argue on a shoestring budget a pally is better because a DW helm is 400p. A sk without a fungi is pretty gross in those mid levels, unless you have clarity and are treating your hp bar with felt gloves.

Back on topic though…the pally epic is great and worth the effort. The SK epic is better but doesn’t mean ours doesn’t have a purpose. It’s also quite a bit easier…

I have Narandi’s Lance, Epic and Nature’s Defender as well as a couple of NToV 1hand weapons. Each is situational but I use Epic more than the others especially in a group situation. Extra HPs on a CH are great and being able to interrupt casters with ease is huge. Even if you just have it around to throw into main hand and bash, it will be worth the effort.

Of course ya would with no ntov 2h, once ya have that you won't. 1h is only used ranking really hard hitting things. If ya have access to ntov or st epic is pointless..

There are a lot of stunnable npcs that can gate or CH. Since these are higher level casted stun isn’t guaranteed to work nor is bash but flipping two coins often provides a win. I’ve even had the -100 check stun proc interrupt a gater before. That’s some rng magic when it happens but is satisfying.

The epic is about 75% of the dps of my Rocksmasher. It’s probably about the same as a Frostwrath or Vyemm sledge. I still use it a lot when I don’t want to hover click. Not solo or low-man crew kills when every bit matters but anytime my dps isn’t noticeable (with a charmed pet at best it’s 20% of the dps) I use the epic if there are caster npcs on the menu. Maybe a fan of underdog picks or just be being a bad, or a bit of both :) . At least it looks cool.

100%

If for no other reason than it looks awesome. I don’t ever use it but sometimes I like to wear it for it’s visual aesthetic.

Can I ask your question back to you?

Is it worth getting the coolest looking weapon in the game, and one of the only literal swords that are on fire, like a flaming sword in the game? Lets forget stats for a second here ;p
