View Full Version : How well do bard songs, or bards in general work?

On live I was bard, because they are quite clearly the best class. But when I tried out the VZTZ emu server, bards were WAY broken, worse than we ever were on live. Songs would sometimes not land, and it was impossible to even keep up 3 songs all of the time.
Which was no fun :(
Any bards here care to explain how well your class works here on p1999?
thx ily <3

They honestly work pretty darn well compared to the past. You can twist 4 songs safely and swarm kiting is easy. While there can be improvements made, the only really annoying issue I have is having the song cast bar disappear, making me think the song interrupted but really didn't. Other than that it just involves small tweaks in a few areas.

Thank you! That is very good news. I'm getting very excited for this, I hope the red server is able to maintain a good population like the carebear one :D

Charm-kiting doesn't work at all (aggro transfers differently/not at all), and the casting bar occasionally disappears when twisting, but those are the only two bugs that really need to be mentioned.
There's a more comprehensive list on the bug forums: http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=39422.
All-in-all, bards are working quite well on this server.

This is true....charm kiting used to be about gathering large groups of mobs, charming one, attacking another, then the pack would jump that mob to take its health down. Here when you charm a mob and tell it to attack another, only those 2 are locked in a quarrel with the rest chasing after you.
Be mindful of that! :p

Kind of a gigantic issue because that was the main way to go in velious. I can't see the song bar disappearing issue helping much either.

Swarm kiting by means of DoTing the mobs down DOES work. It is just charm swarming that does not work here.

That was always called AOE kiting. Always.

AoE kiting = work.
Swarm kiting = doesn't work.
I'm pretty happy with the way bards function here, there are some slight song issues, and things such as a song buff bar still exist, but I believe most of it is being worked on, and there are no serious issues that would prevent me from playing my bard.

Have to agree with all that was said so far. No swarm kiting makes me sad, as it would be used, but other than that and spell bar dropping things are fine.

The cast-bar issue is barely noticeable once you get used to it. It's not hard to watch for your song message, the song animation, or the particle effects. Or even just learn about how long 3 seconds is - after all, if you're a bard with no rhythm, you should probably just re-roll. :P
*Except where it wasn't.

So it seems my class has been decided, hope they fix swarm kiting and the casting bar thing though. Does the casting bar go away for other classes too? And what about with clicky items?
Everyone is just joking about no red box, right??

I get the casting bar disappearing on clicky items sometimes too (like Lev cloak or my illusion masks). It really isn't that big of an issue though. Bards function way better here than on any other Emu server that's ever existed.
If you want a list of all the Bard issues that currently exist, this thread I made is pretty thorough: http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=39422. As you can see about 90% of those issues are extremely minor. I think you'll find that Bards still have the same "magic" that they used to back in the day.

The thing that makes me laugh about this, and something that iirc isn't classic although it is possible th bug wasn't in till later, however it is still in live since at least PoP where i remember using it most. But if you lulled a mob twice it would be permanently lulled until it died or zone reset. Was fun logging in an hour early to lull everything on a path for people then jsut walk through =). And again it's still on live, they have been made aware but haven't fixed but this game was able to block that, makes me laugh.

I always had the same thing happen on live, so I don't think it has anything to do with emulators. All you have to do is look down at chat for the song emote message instead, or just do the timing mentally. Either way, it shouldn't ever interrupt twisting.

Bards function pretty much perfectly on PEQ. I can't think of any issues there.

Aye, no complaints here, just pointing out differences because OP asked and honestly there are way less than i expected.

This is almost certainly not true. You mean charm kiting is fixed on PEQ? And all instrument modifiers work as they should? Because previous experience with popular emu servers would suggest otherwise.

I see bards swarm kitting in OT daily. Not sure how well it works, but they sure as hell have a HUGE amount of mobs swarming =)
