Way back on live I played on Tunare and for some reason we all did our trading in Gfay aka Gbay. The concept of the EC tunnel was basically a joke. Was this the case anywhere else? Or did your server do any weird shit like this?

My server (Solusek Ro) also had its trading go on in Gfay.

Heard some servers had North Freeport as their trading zone, which seems even weirder to me.

My server (Tribunal) was EC tunnel but it was in the market area where Shady is, not the entrance.

I grew up on a North Freeport bank area server, so transitioning to the tunnel was odd to me. But I think whatever you were used to just seems "normal".

I get the impression that the tunnel was the most common, followed by Gfay (always heard it as Faymart not Gbay), and NFP was the rarity.

But Gfay makes the least sense. At least Freeport has infrastructure designed for evil races. Gfay/Faydwer is by far the least centralized and convenient. Even in classic/vanilla there's nothing going on out there after level 40 or so except for Phinny, and its totally hostile towards any evil race.

I used to play on a server with 2 trading zones.

The main one was EC tunnel, like p99.

But they also had Gfay too. Which, in some ways, is the case with p99 too.

At least it used to be that way in the early days.

But yeah, no idea how NFP would work, but it makes more sense than GFay.

GFay is out of the way for everyone, pretty much.

I remember when my server was young it wasn't a constant presence at the tunnel, but there'd be organised "market days" through the official server forum. It then eventually became just the go to place until Luclin.

You would hit a giant wall of lag passing through the entrance to the bank area, go afk while your PC chugged along frozen and come back when you could move again.

Gfay and nfp both have banks, which granted are not usable to evil races by default. Still makes more sense to trade in a zone with a bank though, although I do appreciate the nostalgia of ec tunnel.

Tholuxe Paells was East Commons. Any other location sounds far worse for a trading hub to me.

On Solusek Ro atleast, all of the evils hung out at the Wizard spire in Gfay. Everyone else hung out on the bank platform in Kelethin.

13 year old me may have found it amusing to see how much carnage I could cause from time to time by dropping the Felwithe guards off at the spire.

The Rathe was EC tunnel, but Saturday was Bazaar day and evveeerybody came out that day to trade, and was always busier then the other days

Only reason EC tunnel was a thing is because of the stupid evil races, NFP is where the real deals went down

Rallos Zek did trading in GFay and North Freeport. Tunnel did not have a single trader, it was too dangerous there.

Evils usually set up meets in Neriak.

On Drinal and Mith Marr it was NFP. The big "evil" races would sometimes make trades from the underground tunnel entrance or more likely they would be found in the various backyards of the buildings which were quite safe. Have you noticed how many secluded backyards there are in NFP? It was nice to see them being used. The only real downside was the lag wall you hit when turning the corner into the NFP market but that didn't bother me much and I had a terrible PC then. People often factioned hard to get NFP faction on their main or would have banker characters. The alternative was an evil having to make a quick run to the Neriak bank which happens today on P99 with the EC tunnel.

When Live EQ wrecked Freeport it really hit home with me and I simply can't play there. NFP was the hub of EverQuest until Luclin on my server.

Ah, I was on Tunare and yeah, Gbay was the best. The only thing was that there would be higher level evil races slaying in Crushbone to grind their faction, which left less mobs for the newbies.

Gfay felt like a real city with hundreds of people running about, finding places to sit, etc. I loved it as a kid!

Crowded Kelethin was cool, I still remember this rager who used to sit at the bank in full Rubi, what a baller.

Prexus was at the front of EC tunnel like p99. Pure nostalgia. However, there were about 30 peeps always auctioning off stuff in Gfay as well. I remember trading CB belts for bronze armor back in the day. Sundays were the big sell day in EC.

Another good point against GFAY, that must have been shit for new players not knowing wtf is going on trying to be a wood elf.

Having the bank be 2 zones away is a joke. Gfay was amazing since even evil can bank using the window trick. Rallos Zek used gfay.
