It's not The NYT's data. They are citing data directly from The CDC and other sources. If they made a slight correction about something in the article it has no correlation. You're just desperately looking for something to cling to for a way out. Not going to happen.

Some people are understandably concerned by that fact.

The better your behavioral health hospital is, the more people that want to go there for inappropriate reasons. Sounds nice when you think “well it’s money one way or another” until you consider your limited bed space and all the people you will be denying. If it’s going to be full either way, it’s better to be filled with people who actually need it

Especially with kids, we inform parents about 3 different types of behavioral health hospitals: Phoenix Childrens gives them pizza and lets them play video games, it’s basically Disneyland that every kid wants to go back to, especially when they lose electronics privileges at home. Phx st Luke’s behavioral is unfun and super strict so more appropriate for kids who want to go for the wrong reason: they won’t enjoy their stay. And Oaisis is usually full of delinquents to the point where we make jokes privately that Oasis is basically Fight Club for kids. The thing is from reading about covid deaths, it’s all sorts of different stuff that can kill ya once covid is wrecking their system. Organs shutting down, getting infections, oozing fluids out their pores which sounds fucking disgusting. Some of the stories had them getting toweled off multiple times/day because of how much fluids their dying body was leaking out their skin, I didn’t even know that was possible

One of the things I hated most about that site was back years ago in those entries the poor family in denial would post some kind of minor positive update. Like multiple systems in the person’s body would be failing but their oxygen level would be up like a few points. And they would focus on that as some sign they are going to turn the corner

I'm not a utilitarian. In the trolley experiments I choose to kill the people the trained is destined to hit every time, because it's not my job to choose who lives and dies. Don't hang out on train tracks. And even if it's my job, I have to choose to act to switch the track and actively choose to kill someone(s), whereas the deaths on the existing track are what would happen if I wasn't there.

Well the reason I asked is because he often gets accused of being right-wing for not being totally obsessed with trump, being critical of the bidens and specifically the hunter biden coverups, and being critical of covid policy.

And that’s fine, that analogy fits. What really matters is what happens if neither request is respected. For example, if I don’t like someone who goes by “James” and hates being called Jim, I might just call him Jim. Why? Because, fuck Jim. I’d call him James if he was my friend and I liked him, but if I didn’t like him, why would I honor his request?

And then what happens to me if I don’t? Well, James would be pissed at me but that’s it. I wouldn’t lose my job. I wouldn’t be threatened with arrest. I wouldn’t be accused of violence towards Jim

So while the requests are similar, refusal creates very different consequences. Refusing one is much worse than refusing another, I think everyone can agree on that

I think people could learn a lot from his communication style in debates. He speaks slowly, his tone is measured, and I personally think tone is important. If anything, if you don’t want to be interrupted or shut down when attempting to make a point, the more I would say “disinterested” or “dispassionate” you can make your tone, the better. Passion and anger to me is a very ugly look in debates, it shows a lack of control. And since you are trying to persuade the audience to see your point, being bullish just makes them mentally defensive

He also scores points for asking lots of clarifying questions. I would say he is a better debater than Anna Kasparian of the Young Turks. The only areas where I would put her ahead is she is much more attractive (although needs to tone down the damn makeup, Jesus), and she makes concessions. I haven’t heard Sam make a concession ever

The other reason why I think concessions seem to be a lost art of debates is that you are not 100% right on every point you’re making. The audience knows you’re not right on 100% of the things you say. They just don’t know which things you aren’t right about (sometimes they do)

So if you never concede “ok that is correct” or “ok that is a fair point” or “ok I might be wrong on that point” then in addition to looking close-minded the audience is also suspecting somewhere in all those facts were lies
