I know in the past we did the Discord (Perma death) event, but I was wondering with Hardcore WoW going viral, if there would be any interest in a Hardcore classic EQ ruleset?

Thanks!

Self-imposed rules, there’ll never be a p99 HC-server I dare say.

WoW nor EQ lends themselves to this playstyle well.

I think with both the rise in popularity of hardcore & solo self found runs being done by players actively with self-imposed rules it may be worth dev consideration for adding an actual feature for these modes within the game.

For example, you could setup the Priest of Discord to offer the player an option to play in permadeath/discord mode or as a solo self found character (with a level 1 requirement for selecting one of these modes). An associated leaderboard would also be nice but not really needed.

Yeah, I love Hardcore in D2 and Ironman in Classic Diablo, but for the time investment it just seems like a massive headache in WoW to have to play so cautiously, and a big heartbreak when the inevitable happens.

Nothing is permanent.

Many of my characters have passed into memory. Results of work. Or dragonbreaks. Or other extradimensoinal forces.

Is there actual "hardcore" servers or is this just players imposing their own rules?

its player imposed, but they all congregate on specific servers

theres an addon that tracks every single character input / interaction...a hardcore GM / mod / whatever has to verify you once you submit your "run" to 60

No AH, no mail, no trading with other players, no asking for help, etc.

I've been watching Xaryu do his hardcore mage in WoW and it's actually pretty insane what he has done solo on a HC character.

I've been debating resubbing just to join in the fun.

I just don't see HC working on EQ unless there was a specific server that dramatically increased exp gain. Takes too long to level to play hardcore.

If there is anyone who would be interested in doing this as a group or small guild (Death = Delete), then let me know on discord

If we get a group, I'll throw together a community discord for us, maybe a website for tracking progress. Just feeling out the idea right now.

What happens if a hardcore dies, and just keeps on playing the character?

It's ultimately on the honor system.

In WoW, there's an addon that tracks your verification status.

Hardcore players are only allowed to play with other hardcore players, so if you die, and people know, they simply won't group with you.

Nope.

But if we can get a group together, I'd be willing to try it.

We wouldn't even necessarily have to level together.. it's just a matter of getting people to commit to the hardcore ruleset, and play amongst themselves.

Ya hardcore is fun for streamers because they play 10 hours a day and they get content whether they die or not.

As a regular player, it's much less fun to start over. Great to watch though.

Putting together a community for it.

Join the discord, idle, let's see how many others are out there who want to try this.

We had this on live. It was a hack fest, no GMs and the cheaters were rewarded at the end with items named after them or something... except one dude who's name was "apostle" or something "too religious" so he didn't win lol... kind of funny... All these deities but a name like that is "too religious." Wokesters.

IOW, crap.

Concept is cool, but you’re foreclosing a huge amount of content with death = delete gameplay rules. It’d be fun at low levels, but how do you ever do a DTing mob if that’s the end of every DT’d character? At that point you’d need to have guild PL’d DT bots (which will quickly lead to guild PL’d everything-else) that basically defeat the purpose.

In my mind, hardcore EQ would be to treat death like an insta-rot. No rezzes, no re-looting gear (except keys). Would be hard to ensure nobody cheats, but that’d actually be workable and really fun—and also eliminate the loot hoarding mentality.

Hey Daldolma, we plan to address the Death Touch mechanic with the following rule, which you can find in our discord:

What about Death Touch mechanics?
If a player dies to a Death Touch from a raid boss, the player may be resurrected only if the raid slays the boss on that attempt. If your raid wipes, or your raid is forced to disengage for any reason after you have been death touched (Except for Griefing, see above) then your character is permanently dead. Rest in peace.
