So before green server launched it was said in a forum post by rogain that the green server would dump its characters into blue and restart green. Since that post there has been radio silence on what is to happen. I wish for green to restart but not to be dumped into blue. Maybe bring teal server back as the permanent green server character dumping grounds. I hope the CSR speaks on this and lets us know if doing progression is going to continue to be a thing because i would love a chance to play eq classic-velious all over again!

I get where you are coming from. That said it's best for sanity sake to not worry too much about whether communication is deserved. Devs owe us nothing but crickets.

Forum mods seem to have removed a response from non-OP after my first comment. Ignore my second comment as it is now without context and was not directed at OP. Cheers

It's not happening. There's too many complications from merging servers and the devs don't feel like dealing with it.

Yea, I don’t really know how they’re gonna deal with duplicate names

write a script that puts an x at the end of all duplicates in the database or something, could be written in like a minute.

Green has no future it's dead and stuck in a ghost loop.

What if the duplicated name is max length and ends in an X already?

Then the script flags it and they manually change it to something, anything.
Hopefully names aren’t the reason we don’t have a timeline on Green 2.0.

Why does it matter if green is merged into blue?

Yeah, that’s exactly how soe did it during their server merges. Active subscription and max level had precedence for keeping the contested name, the other got a free namechange.

Why play on Green 2.0 when Green 3.0 is just around the corner?

Merging green characters into blue is still clearly the only feasible option if they want to launch a fresh green, which I very much hope they do \ legally can.

This whole model also invites another issue though which is that if the playerbase knows ahead of time when their server is going to be merged and reset, it might demoralize a huge portion of the player base. What's the point in rolling a new character and eveling it if you know in advance that the server is resetting in a month? Still I think it's the best option. The project is inherently experimental because everquest didn't stop after velious, but this project wants to, so the question of how to "stop" an everquest server is a new one.

Precisely. I have a few friends I play with on Blue, but we've kind of over all drifted away from playing as often. But everyone seems super interested in a fresh server, with a fresh start, but no one wants to go on Green if it's going to get reset soon. I have a 27 magician on Green, but it's hard to keep wanting to go on and play him if there is a potential of a reset.

The character would still exist after a reset, though. It would just be on Blue. No progress would be lost.

Or do you mean you would want to start over on the fresh new server for the experience?

As long as Daybreak is pumping out TLP servers I wouldn't count on a new P99 server

Daybreak was pumping them out when Green launched too.

Why would this matter?

Tormmac

because its known the only reason daybreak allowed green is it was inbetween TLP projects and p99 informally agreed to never launch a server within a window of a day break TLP launch (which now is twice a year)

jolanar

Unless I've been missing half of the TLP launches, they only do 1 new launch per year.

New TLP has no bearing on new p99 servers. Having played on quite a few TLPs over the years, the two experiences are nothing alike. TLP is not classic EQ, and is not intended to be classic EQ.

Hey, TLP is better than live EQ by a country mile. But yeah it's nothing like original eq or p99.

My theory is they re-evaluated it when considering the end-game shitshow between raid guilds which is where the top heavy population is for both servers.

Didn't OpenAI figure out a way to go from a Non-profit to a 29B for-profit enterprise?

Anything is possible

Green 1.0 launch showed anyone paying attention that even die-hard blue raiders will semi-retire or perma retire old characters to re-live the nostalgia of a fresh server.

...Being able to easily and legally play on diff p99 servers similtaneously makes playing on a fresh start even more attractive to heavily immersed blue99 and green99 players.

Alot of people could be initially upset with a green/blue merge but most would likely play on a brand new server anyways if it was available before or around the same time as a green/blue merge? The alternative of perma splitting the PvE population 3 ways(Sorry Red99 some of us love you but we all know most EQers prefer the bluebie experience) by letting Green1.0 live on in perpetuity seems even sketchier to me but maybe that's just me?

the future of green is blue

Blue 2.0(Blue/green merged) could be truly epic if they enable /guildwar and we all see some epic competition vs Green and blue raid guilds.

We all know a huge chunk of Green99 hardcore players played alot or a ton on Blue99 so it would be a homecoming of sorts. Lol

If they have the resources to run 3 servers simultaneously (Blue, Green 1.0, and Green 1.x) that would be ideal. Green 1.x feeds into Green 1.0, and Blue is the 'Legacy' server of sorts, with a different timeline for Classic/Kunark/Velious while Green servers (existing and future) have the same timelines.
