I just started here and kinda lost as to what I want to do. I have been considering druid or rogue. While I like this server and the feel of classic one thing I dont like is the lack of newbie gear. I never cared about the stats, I always did the quest for RP purposes. But as the quest arnt on this server idk what I want to do.

Farm bone chips. Really if you can, go to North Ro (make a human Rogue or something if you don't really have a preference between the two classes) and just slaughter the zone over and over. You'll level decently enough and before long you can get a couple hundered pp worth of bone chips.
I've only been playing on this server a few days and shifted between a few different toons before settling on one, and it didn't take me long to go from flat broke and using cloth armor, to having full banded mail and two 100pp weapons.
Save high quality cat/bear pelts and spider/spiderling silks and sell them aswell. Loot all rusty weapons and sell em to a vendor. And once you have a decent amount of bone chip stacks, go to E commonlands and try to sell them and keep an eye out for people selling newbie level weaponry. Sometimes you'll find people that undercut others (for example I got a weapon that normally sells for 100p for 50p).
Banded will last you forever if you make a Rogue, and something like a Pugius or a Dragoon Dirk won't cost you that much and will be very nice for a while aswell. Only thing is any rings/earrings worthwhile are expensive as hell.
Goodluck!

In regards to the newbie quest armors, I remember them and my god items equivalent to them on this server sell for a few hundered pp per. Those items really did make the first 30 levels really really easy. That said this server is old school EQ and there isn't really anything that easy to get that is also so good.

but you stated a problem (lack of newbie gear with no obvious means of attaining it), and i offered an rp solution.
you, young rogue, rid the plane of freeport of it's nasty skeleton problem. sell their bones for large sums of 8pp per stack. buy low end gear with said plat.

there's quests in EQ?

there're lots of quests in eq! I only know paladin quests but I'm sure they're all over the place for all classes. Go to your guild and hail people. say [bracketed] words in a sentence/question. Go on your silly little quest to retrieve a spider venom sac. profit.

Start in Qeynos. Collect Gnoll fangs. Turn them in in Halas. ????. Profit.
But seriously, EQ wasn't like modern MMOs - there wasn't a defined way to make money (dailies, instances, other etc quests, etc etc). So you have to make most of your money from providing items other players want or from specific camps in the game where money is abundant.
Bone chips in nro is an excellent recommendation. There are like 20-25 decaying skeleton spawns in the area before the desert near the inn, and they respawn very fast.

And I think the going rate for bone chips to necros is 10pp a stack? That will get you started.

That's the ballpark price =) Bertoxx knows I hate killing skellys for bone chips. I buy them off newbs all the time in EC.
